  • Standard sound of an XR3I exhaust system. It is a MK4 EFI CVH which has done 55K on a brand spanking new engine.
Body has done 130K though hence the battle scars.
It is a rare rosewood red / silver cabriolet 90 spec.

I remember the sound of Escort mk3/4's very well. The tailpipe is so tinny on them.

Haha isnt it just! Distinctive though! I need to get this out in the summer...

The 1.3 was the worst for it. Its so tinny due to the design of the rear backbox. It has a u bend in the pipe before it joins onto the centre section. My dad's old 1.4 Orion didn't have a tinny tailpipe as it had another box after the rear axle. It was nice and throaty.

New engine was sourced by the previous owner at a cost of nearly 2k in 1997. It has now done 58k but the car is standard including exhaust.

I would recommend an MFI over an EFI but these cars are getting quite rare and its kind of a case that beggars cant be choosers. I bought an EFI as it was cheap but I am restoring an MFI.

I'm looking at buying a MK4 Escort as project car. There's one near me which has been stood for years. Rust would be the biggest issue as they like to rust especially the battery tray like your MK5 did.

@@B3NN10N No the owner isn't selling it. Going to look for one that's roadworthy.

thats not bad at all. XR3I'S are collecters cars getting quite rare now. avoid the 1.3 has tractor tappets and need constant adjustment

This old beast is currently gathering bird poo in the barn. I have lost interest really, it was quite thirsty! But a great car. I will resurrect one day. :)

To me the EFI isn't as good as the MFI or carb CVH engines.. They tend to run really lumpy and that trip computer got on your nerves.
