We Love Katamari has an easter-egg joke that you can find if you go to the item review style feature to look at items you've collected, if you click on each of the mount rushmore statues in line including the mount rushmore teddy bear, the five item sounds say "oh my god you're pregnant" which sounds unbelievable but is true
hell yes i’ve been a proponent of the katamari games for the past few years they’re pure fun and the music is some of the best i’ve ever heard from a video game
Wild how a game a friend showed me on a whim in 2005, became like an anchor point of a franchise that I always go back to because it brings me such simple joy.
I have played every Katamari game since starting with the original back in 2004. Although I am a huge fan of Dark Souls, souls-likes, and Metroidvanias, the Katamari series are the games that I have played the most in the past 20 years. They never fail to make me smile, from the whimsical graphics, characters and objects to roll up (many of which are even funnier or more poignant if you have a deeper understanding of Japanese culture) to the amazing music, I never have a bland time playing these games. Even my wife, who HATES playing video games, now asks me to load up Katamari Damacy for her and is progressing through her own save file. It is a magical experience that, so far, is unrivaled in gaming.
For real, I feel like the abundance of sequels didn’t do it any favors and made people forget just how special of a game this is. Hoping someday that narrative flips back around, but for now those who know can just enjoy it and try to rope as many people as possible into it too. Thanks for sharing!
was a very fun surprise to see this. we love katamari is in my top 5 games easy and the fact that i've seen so many videos about how it (and its prequel) are brilliant and they all have something new and interesting to say is incredible. that's a sign of great art right there! also i usually see the music listed as shibuya-kei or occasionally picopop for genres so there ya go
I've only played Katamari Damacy Reroll when it came out, but from this video I'm now I'm considering We Love Katamari. I frankly had no idea they remastered the sequel too
The second remaster has a lot of iffy issues though, be warned that a lot of minor, but fully intentional details are altered or missing, you are not getting the 100% originally intended experience if you play that version. The same can't be said for the first remaster, that one is basically 98% of the way there. The second remaster came out so much more rough because the studio hired to create it had to ALSO develop the remasters for _both original Klonoa games_ for their releases _at the same time._ As someone who is also a Klonoa fan I can attest that those remasters have a lot of the same issues. Damn you Bandai Namco.
Katamari is such a good game. It's so unabashedly goofy, unique and genuine that you can't help smiling. Everything about this game is all over the place but it feels intentional. I'm glad you tried it.
3D Zelda games before Breath of the Wild are my comfort games If I *really* need to be happy, I'll play Wind Waker because it genuinely feels like playing a Ghibli film
great video! i love how it really gets at the themes of the series, most katamari discussions don't really touch that stuff. i've loved these games for almost a decade now, and i even just made big long videos of my own talking about the first two and their remakes, so seeing more people showing them the love they deserve really makes me happy. thank god they got remadetoo because such fantastic and meaningful games being stuck on the ps2 would be really sad
I’m glad you liked it, thank you! It’s good to hear that more people are making videos on these games, and I agree, these remakes have helped a ton for accessibility. I hope someday there’s a big resurgence in popularity for this franchise
This video was sick! I love your format. Def gonna consider trying Katamari soon after this, I've only ever heard good things and it seems like something fun to help me unwind without requiring perfect focus.
Some games that make me feel happy are the Mario RPGs, some Mega Man games, Sonic Unleashed, Kingdom Hearts 2, Halo 3, the Splatoon games, and some others
@@Totaraum I replay it every Christmas break. It's nice and short, but can be more if you want to 100%. Super light hearted and fun. Music and gameplay just make me smile.
I learned about this game from a Jacob Geller video and I've wanted to play it ever since. Just checked and it's available on steam so ik what game I'll be buying next.
Forgot this existed, thanks for reminding me. Getting this again. Also have you considered creating or having another channel for audio longform breakdowns of something. I could happilly listen to you talk about freiren or katamari for hours while cleaning, your voice and commentary is perfect for it.
I'm a disabled gamer who has always wanted to play these games, but the controls are absolutely impossible for me 😭 it sucks, but at least it's relaxing to watch other people play.
Yo ho! Did not know about him being interviewed on an English language podcast. Definitely gonna check out that Bullseye episode. I only own the first Katamari on the PS2. Never did get to the second, but at some point one of these days I'll likely get them both cheap on Steam. It goes without saying that the music in this series is absolutely phenomenal. Namco finally added the ost to the first game a couple months back on Spotify (and I assume all other digital streaming services). Not the second ost, yet, though. I hope they do as I love the track Everlasting Love (happy you used it in the vid too). The music is just too good. IT'S TOO GOOD! Anyways, thinking of games that made me blissfully happy, I gotta go to the two Super Mario Galaxy games (except for this one Yoshi level in 2 that made me rage). P.S. you didn't include the link of the Eurogamer article in the description at the time of this post 😉
I hope you try out we love katamari! Pick it up when the steam summer sale starts in a little bit. Agreed on both the music and Mario galaxy games, and thanks so much for letting me know about the description. I wrote a note reminding myself and everything but still forgot lol

I adore the music so much. It’s so weird lol

I highly recommend it! Also I can’t say I’m surprised, I doubt they advertised it much

My only memory of katamari before this video was playing a demo disk as a kid and getting nightmares from the game over screen
Katamari is great! Criminally underrated, or at least not as known as it should be
For real, out of all the franchises that deserve massive resurgences I'm hoping this one gets it
Yo, katamari damacy. Enjoyed playing this game far more than many AAA titles.
Hell yeah
This video was sick! I love your format. Def gonna consider trying Katamari soon after this, I've only ever heard good things and it seems like something fun to help me unwind without requiring perfect focus.
Thank you for the kind words! I hope you give it a try, your description of it is spot on

All great choices!
Do Yoku's Island Express next. I promise - guaranteed to make you happy.
I’ve never heard of it before, it looks super charming. I’ll have to give it a try!

I mean, the king does have fortnite proportions
Commenting for the algo, this video and game need more attention
I appreciate it!
Katamari looks like such a silly time, I always have free time in the summer so now might be the perfect opportunity to check the games out lol.
Please do! I hope you enjoy it if you give it a look

Yo you got a discord server btw or anything like that?
Nah honestly making videos takes up enough of my free time at the moment
@@Totaraum Ah, got ya...

Liked the video, but I will never play this game.
Fair enough lol
