This is definitely their best ballad ever... And one of the best ballads in Symphonic Metal History
agreed, a friend of mine always says his is canvas of life, I always say this track lol, although that may be 2nd or 3rd....

The guitar slide and then Simone's beautiful soprano note! Jesus F**king Christ!
Absolutely unique. Hard to find real poetry and excellent music combined these days.
What's even more amazing is how it is not only inspired by Schubert's Erlkonig, but that it has elements of it, like the lines by the Elf King, and the repeating melody in the background, as a honage to the repeating chords in Erlkonig which represents the galloping of the horse.

I had a dream snd thought it was a great idea for a book, so it took me about 3 years to write, and I decided to call it Once Upon a Nightmare, and one day I happen to come across this song and was all hyped that it has the same title. But the real shock was that the lyrics really matched all the themes of my story

Great song. I love it. It reminds me Chasing the dragon (one of my favourites) by the way. Maybe it's becuse of progress through the song.

I feel like a total idiot for just realising after all these years that this song is basically a reinterpretation of Der Erlkönig 🤦🏻♀️ Since I always sang the female part I never paid attention to what the male voice was saying and when I saw "my daughters will take care of you" I thought: "Hehe, like on Der Erlkönig" but then he said "and if you don't come I'll take you by force", and I was like: "No, this is totally Der Erlkönig!". I guess I never noticed before because it's in English instead of German (and I'm more of a music than a lyrics kind of person). The line "A father's life destroyed" makes so much sense now.

@@doomsday7308 Oh yes, discovering Epica is a great journey. Their music is very diverse. They are amazing musicians who can write scores for a whole orchestra, not just metal.
Just tell me what you'd to hear most... Heavy stuff? More mainstream sound? Or some of their wonderful ballads? Are you OK with growling? Let me know what you prefer.

They're not flat earths, they're representations of the Earth depicted as a simulation inside a dome. The album title is "The Holographic Principle" after all
