The world of boats and yachts has long been opposing to the electrical powertrain. We’ve been waiting for a kind of Tesla on the water. And now we have it. The vessels of Silent Yachts company are being called Teslas of the seas, and today we are going to tell you why.
The company works to produce luxurious catamarans of different sizes. There are three main size options for now: 55, 60, or 80 feet. The models look much alike, but they are different in terms of interior features.
The main thing about these yachts is that they are purely electric. These vessels are powered by electric motors that have a lifetime warranty from the producer. There is a battery pack that is able to take you for quite a long distance. And one more important thing - the actual range of the yachts is not limited. Let’s try to find out more about these magical vessels.

So much wrong here, showing old model 64 when talking about new 60 (and all the time in video), 55 is only one version, top of flybridge can be closed, same as basic model 60 and 80 etc.

Most of these yachts are up for Sale second Hand, The Range is actually Limited, Its got a 145 Mile range , It takes 6 Hours of full daylight to fully recharge at standstill without using the Power . These are OK for Day trips or Weekends, They are NO good for long distance trips, And believe me you dont want to be on one in Heavy seas , These yachts will take you 4 X longer than a normal one to get to your destination, You will be Stopping and starting on long distance trips. Spent 9 weeks trying to cross from Spain to the Bahamas, It was a Nightmare, We ran out of supplies at one point so had to fish 🐠… The Lady Owner has now put Hers up for sale for $1.5 Million now,

Why didnt they run the generator..or use a parakite sail thats what its for .
The first crossing was done in Feb E -W and in rough conditions . In 17 days and another 17 beating round the Caribbean. plenty of sailing and motor sailing vessels have to make do with sailing at 7 Knt max and below.

Well as the draft is only 3'3" on the sixty thats not an issue the width i dont know about but speeds restricted anyway..
Theres Portuguese and other companies building similar products now look up the review they did on boat test.
Or convert a smaller second hand vessel ... The near perfect conversion base might be a Main Cats... 38 or 41'
Theres a german guy converting a shuttle cat ships 150 place life boat called Heart of Gold.. using Nissan leaf motors... they are tiny and light compared to the two Yanmar turbo diesels hes pulled out yet they produce more bhp and and more Torque. 😁 And are virtually maintainance free.

they should look to include the new covered vertical wind turbines to the design they would not need any backup generator and would increase range n power x 4 at least

The wind over sun shadow doesnt break even enough for enough time to payback ... It depends on where and when you plan using the vessel but thats the reason they have never fitted them from the factory.

What if the engines on a diesel fail? What if your sails rip on a sailing vessel? The advantage to Catamarans is that they are dual engine systems. The likelihood that the diesel generator AND both electric motors fail is extremely unlikely.

They should offer a reverse charge option where the yacht can put power into the docks. Park an 80 and have it sit there for 8 months not giving energy back is a huge waste. Also, the range and speed I bet doesn’t have the fridge and air con going. Solar panels cannot run an AC and a yacht motor even during sunny conditions. Maybe the future 120’ version can but a buyer should see the math before purchase because no doubt compromises are in order. Kind of sad advertisers are allowed to say such things.

The still image of this video is of an Alva Yacht, not a Silent Yacht at all, its an Alva Eco 60 to be precise...a direct, and maybe only real competitor of Silent Yachts. Even apart from this obvious mishap, this video is a fairly poor and incomprehensive representation of Silent Yachts. The brand deserves much better than that.

Not a word in the whole video about the fact that electricity means zero pollution : zero noise, zero toxic particles, zero CO2. Is this topic taboo in the yachting industry? Soon all diesel boats will be banned from ports, at least in democracies, keep that in mind when investing millions in a boat. BTW, when comparing prices, it would be fair to include the cost of fuel and maintenance.
