Sorry you had not heard Phyllis' amazing version of this Bobby Caldwell classic until recently. You should also check out Snoh Aalegra's beautiful slowever rendition of this song as well. It's a treat!
I was devastated about how she left us. I wrote a song about her. Was going to submit it for a tribute special. Never did. Her greatest vocal performance in my opinion was "Meet me on the moon". She is arguably the greatest R&B female vocalist of the 20th century.
My Top 5: Phyllis ❤️🙏🏾😔, Angie, Patti Austin, Patti Labelle and Anita. Each one just stirs my soul and release my spirit from a place in my heart that's been broken, healed or bubbling with passion. All legends.
In the words of the also late great Nancy Wilson who said she was driving on one of the freeways in California when she first heard Phyllis Hyman on the radio and she said " Here is a Young Woman with a Great Instrument". The very first time I heard Phyllis Hyman I was truly mesmerized... I kept on and on until I found out the woman who sang " Ain't You Had Enough Love".. ❤.. And, the rest is history😉..
@@maryrobinson4131 Phyllis and Nancy were great friends. And Phyllis said of Nancy years prior....."If you can't sing like Nancy Wilson then why bother?".

@@maryrobinson4131 In the liner notes of Phyllis' final album I Refuse To Be Lonely Nancy Wilson mentions "Phyllis had the greatest instrument, the greatest pipes". She also mentions an incomplete "project" with her and Phyllis that "hopefully can be finished and released" (or something to that effect). I called Phyllis' former manager who had her number listed in that CD or somewhere to inquire about that project. She essentially hung up the phone on me. If you see her in interviews, etc. she exudes this attitude everywhere and can't hide it. How Phyllis had a connection with her I'll never understand as I knew Phyllis personally and she was the most down to earth "real" person you'd ever know. Wow, takes me back to when I saw her at the Hammersmith Odeon picking up my tickets, she brushes past us, drink in hand and being a social butterfly before going on stage. To me a towering songstress who deserves diva status. She's deeply missed.
Wow Ambrose ! I was at the Hammersmith Odeon many times, I'm from Chiswick -right next door..I saw her at the Blue Note here in nyc ! She did exactly the same thing.....came out while we were lining up outside waiting to get in to see her....she was amazing - a whole 'lot of woman'

Yes, me too. I like her vocals, but the backing is very grating, although that’s typically 80’s - overdone. Actually …. 💭🤔 I’d like to hear Lani Hall do a version of this with a lush, jazzy backing and maybe some smooth trumpet work by Herb Alpert.
I miss her so much 😭🥺 I wish she would’ve been able to overcome her demons. I battle with Clinical Depression /Anxiety & last week I contemplated suicide
You will get through it, Listen to 432hz music on youtube all the time. Sleep with it playing on low volume. It worked for me when I was in deep depression. Try it.
I got hooked onto this album 30 years ago as a managment trainee in a retail store. At first I thought (that although Phyllis had a great voice) that the album was a lightweight. You have to study this album by listening to each lyric from the beginning to the end. Phyllis was screaming out on this album about the personal agony she was living through! There are not many singers that have the ability of translating raw emotion (pain) through their recordings. At this moment I can only think of a handful of female singers with this ability: Laura Lee, Aretha Franklin, Dianne Reeves, and Phyllis Hyman. Only if more heard her recordings and expressed their gratitude for her talent............
Guess heaven needed that voice!! This dark at times world becomes a better place, with this voice, Phyllis Hyman eternal, forever, no one sounds like this!!! Sending 💜.
One of the best vocalists of the 70s and 80s. I cant believe this came out in 1986. She will always be one of my favorites with her haunting melodies and sultry voice. RIP Phyllis💞
Had the pleasure of spending some time with Phyllis after a concert in Chicago in the early 90s. Took pics, talked a little shop etc. That night I knew she was a Blessing from God for everyone to enjoy and I did for a long as I could. Miss You !!
Such a different take on the original. I love her creativity her art and voice. I mean to do this song and have it sound different she also has a great team. We will always adore you.
