Every note sounded wonderful, I had no idea that a harmonica could be played in that way with a full orchestra, it sounded great.
Impressive. I recorded with Larry Adler back in 1970. This guy is really good.
Oh lord! When shall I perform as good as this? This guy is so good.
I did my first Harmonica solo and it was a Phenomenal exprience :)
JUST ONE OF THE CHROMATIC HARMONICA MASTERS OF THE WORDL
wow, this was playing on my local FM station as I woke up this morning. Had to look it up on YT. It is fabulous.

It was very common in the early years. Late 1800s early 1900s. It was originally called mouth organ and was made for this and folk music. The stereotypical blues stuff you hear today is exactly what it was not made for.
Blows me AWAY!
Another stellar performance by Phillip. Such mastery is a delight to listen. Thank you for the great gift. Jay
Moving, Stirring, So proud of this young champion! This music moves me so. Thanks for posting, Peace
WHAT A PLAYER
I never knew that the Harmonica could actually be used in a concert with an actual orchestra.
Somebody wrote a whole orchestra for a typewriter. I think anythings possible at this point.
@@TheEdawg77 ya there like 1.5k for one I wish I could afford one but that's why I play harmonica 😅
3 years late but It actually used to be more common but the harmonica fell victim to it's own innovation making them significantly cheaper shifting their reputation to be lower class and less "refined" than other "classical" instruments. The chromatic stuck around in jazz and the diatonic in blues since they are genres that come from poverty without the aristocratic pretenses of classical music.
WOW!!! Your intonation is absolute!!! Your tone is beautiful!!! Lovely vibrato!!! This is miraculous! I am so happy to have found you on youtube! Please keep posting more and more of your video performances!!!! I must spread the word about you here in New York!!!!! Thank you for sharing your video with me!
Much love and best wishes for your every continued success, Diane

Very well done, what a location for such beautiful music, I wish I was there for it. doc
Very Nice
Just wonderful! You have accuracy, dead-on timing, beautiful (and varied) intonation. Plus, you have a very engaging stage presence. I think what you are doing with the chromatic will help this wonderful instrument regain the credibility that Larry Adler and others enjoyed.
una musica genial!!!!!
ENHORABUENA

Damn Amazing! How can he breathe? x.x
It's a special technique called circular breathing, allowing you to constantly blow out and breath in simultaneously :)
wowowowow :O
Super,super ,super.Jharmonyx
Excuse me for asking Sir, what is your name? You are absolutely brilliant and I really want to learn more about you and your music. Thank you 👍
Philip Achille is his name and there are MANY videos of his performances. He also plays bass, saxophone, and ??
Philip will be performing in London at Hampstead Jazz Club on February 10th with his own band, playing a selection of jazz and classical arrangements. hampsteadjazzclub.com/whats-on/philip-achille/
I can tell it's a hohner in this video but were you playing a 270 here? Can't see
it is difficult to dislike this. it is fairly light and infectious, and the soloist appears to be very good.
What is the range of this harmonica? My guess would be between one and two octaves, but I'm not sure.
A chromatic, like his, is actually 3 octaves, starting from Middle C.
Thank you for the info! It is always good to learn new things, especially learning new MUSIC things! :)
@@bckm54 a sixteen hole chromatic harmonica actually has 4 octaves. mastersofharmonica.com/seydel-symphony-16-hole-chromatic-harmonica-review/
2-3 on 12 Chromatica, 3-4 on 16 Chromatica
I read in another post that Larry Adler composed the piece Waltz Genevieve.
Yes, it's right.
I read in another post that Larry Adler composed this piece.
i dont have the words
excellent performance.
Can anyone give some background on the composer?
wheres the video of the pianist guy who came in 2nd? he was really good
Mravilloso
Serious look on that dude's face, makes it look like work.
Very nice playing... Refreshing!!even more so as it is outdoors and there is no acoustic echo coming back to the ears!!Harmonica is such a fickle and unforgiving instrument if it gets "depressed" and shuts down!..its rude and won't warn you!! What type of chromatic are you using??

@TuboEspectador I believe that
Philip's teacher was Bill Hughes.
Ah, my teacher is actually James Hughes. (I'm the one playing in this video)
2019.
@stevenjc14 nope they are jelous violin players :D
божественно!!!!!!
You can thank Larry Adler
PLEASE...some one can say me what type of harmonica is it.
it's good (and weird)
which harmonica is he using and how did they mike all this to assure that harmonica's sound is dominant?
***** thanks, i am sort of getting the idea now, but i still don't know what is "FOH" (google search shows some non-musical slang for this acronym, if it is an acronym) and i still wonder which harmonica he plays (i know it is chromatic one, but i don't know is it herring or hohner or seydel or what? at 0:45 i see some letters, but it is not clear).
***** i think that i saw the word "hering" on some other video with p. achille but i also think that "hering" is something like brazilian branch of hohner, so…it is hohner probably, one or another sort of it.
+sexypoetry Philip is wearing a clip-on-mike with wireless connection to the speaker
+taptotpat thanks
Hering is not Hohner. Their constructions (reeds/reed-plates) are very different.
@linzee4584 Every instrument can be mastered, but I see what you mean :)
It is a chromatic. You probably have a Diatonic, or simply a chromatic with fewer holes.
@linzee4584 that ain' no ordinary harmonica either.... that's a $10,000 hohner concerto ... only the Suzuki Fabulous compares and even that's not as nice.
Watch this: watch?v=lq6qSTahvDg
Victor Hugo Diaz was also a brilliant player!
Is that harmonica electronically transmitted to the speakers?
+Xtcnyc 23 Philip is wearing a clip-on mike - if you look closely you will see it - also wireless connection to the speakers.
Ah yes, I got you.
first it is transmitted to an amplifier and then to the speakers.
@iPodiRockuSuck See size doesn't really matter.
How does all that "body English" help?
+roy childs It 's simply a physical manifestation of what the performer is feeling from the music. Some performers exhibit more such behavior than others. If it distracts one, he or she should just listen. The music is marvelous!
Probably.
@@rvc6506 don’t be such a little snob.
It helps many performers to concentrate and is often part of their memorizing process. In other cases it’s like the mild stimming behavior present in most humans, and some performers can feel extremely uncomfortable when told to stop. And it’s not just the classical folk like Glenn Gould that do it. Jazz biggies like Keith Jarrett and Hiromi have quite wild stage behavior too.
Obviously, @roy childs does not play a musical instrument.
some are draw notes and some are blow notes
certainly not the most refined of instraments... but he rocked it
No it’s refined you just uppity
What is most refined instrument?
Violin? Bassoon or oboe? Ask about it parents of students who struggle with these instruments while studying.. Talent and enormous load of work make these instruments totally "refined". Chromatic harmonica is not an exception.
surely those that don't like this kind of music do like reggaeton, pop, and other decadent shIt music
nicolas olmos olmos I think you sound pathetic. music is music. People obviously have different tastes in music.
Yea don't try doing that with any other kind of harmonica.
