- I'm not certain where I got this from but I noticed it amidst some other B-sides in my iTunes. I thought it was fun so I had to share.
Love that R.E.M.
They played a gig at the Rat in Kenmore Sq. Boston under an assumed name and only did covers and this was one of them.... it was good. Michael Stipe sitting at a small table in a dim bar.... They played under dark blue and green lights only and with Husker Du. Glad I was there.
The Rat... good times - so many good times.
Stacey Coyne yeah.... the sound guy at the Rat - Granny - was the sound guy for my room mates band, the Rods & Cones. Used to be in the Rat all the time, but then again Kenmore Sq. was home as I was a BU student....!

How the hell did I not know they sang this? I was just jamming out to their 90's stuff and saw an article about Sidewinder Sleeps Tonight, and that REM paid them to use just the referefnce to their song. In the 90's plenty of "artists" were stealing entire songs and not paying a dime. Part of the deal was that REM had to record Lion Sleeps Tonight. I love REM, I'm just astonished this got past me. Better late than never. I used to have a recording of Sting singing the song from the Flintstones on my answering machine. Ah, the 90's, you were a great decade.

The 1990s music was okay, but you owe it to yourself to listen to the music from the 1980s. After "green" they were not that into it.

Sound's poor due to the Americanisation of it, I'm not saying stipe hasn't got a good voice but the original is far better
Sorry guys, this song is beautiful but it's awful for kids education.
First of all the lion don't live in the jungle, but on the savana... and no, it's not at all the same thing.
Other thing, more important, LIONS DON'T SLEEP AT NIGHT, THEY HUNT AT NIGHT.. they sleeps on the day.
Stop talking about a part of the world you don't know, you don't live in and that doesn't correspond to you. Stay where you don't want inmigrants come, in other words in your land.

Let's just say the lion got lost and died in the jungle.. but to keep the poetry, they used a simple euphemism while writing the song. Nah seriously, kids will get over it. x)

Kids will learn at a young age in school that lions live in the savana, this knowledge will supplant the wrong message of this song. You can't accord more credit to this when you're a child.
