Congrats Dan on your shiny shoes
I use to think Dan was allergic to good taste but him liking Supernatural proves there is hope for us all.
Wow! I was not expecting Best Drugs to be a category on a Brandon and Dan show! 😂. So glad thatDan is feeling better though.
Brandon Sanderson talking about LSV videos is the peak intersection of my special interests.
Brandon discussing how to manage a multiverse is fascinating.
15:26 Dan really out here becoming a Tumblr girlie. (Including, but not limited to, the experience of having mutuals that are pretty great but also have that one wild take, except he’s somehow all of them as one person).
Edit: Highly recommend Hbomberguy. He’s great. And you can split up the vids if they’re too long.
Dan watched "Supernatural"!😀 And he loved it!!! 😃😃
Squeeeee! That just SO made my day! ❤
I got back into anime in 2023 and Frieren: Beyond Journey's End rocketed to one of my favorite shows. Can't recommend this fantasy anime enough
The way Brandon pumps out those signed pages lol
Week 9 of persistently asking for an Intentionally Blank episode on Marching Band!
Brandon's glass isn't full of ice is he feeling okay?
😂😂😂
Maybe it's been there for hours and it had a ton of ice.
Someone got fired that day. /s
Everytime they mention "RRR" my dog barks back at the screen.
I read Dan's serial killer books in 2023. Fantastic series. Wish I'd read it sooner!
+1 for the Greenbone Saga, Fonda Lee crushed it
32:00 I think of the word "content" a bit like "consumer" in a media context. Both seem derogatory when compared to "media" and "customer," respectively.
I got really excited when Dan was talking about Supernatural but now I need to know - is he a Sam girl or a Dean girl?
I love supernatural! If you loved the first 5 seasons, and the characters etc, youll probably like the rest, though it is *very* uneven. I loved just being with the characters, and then theres some good stuff mixed in there lol
Would love to read a story about Threnody from Dan. Dans zero chronicles is awesome. I can’t wait for my son to be old enough to read them
I am so tempted by the all week game event... I used to do that with friends and we'd all go to larry's house for like a week and non-stop game. Board games, card games, roleplaying games. It was amazing and I have yet to capture that fun since.... as someone who lives like close to Salt Lake (like a half hour drive) I wouldnt even need a bed..... I am going to just justify this to myself until all the tickets are gone
Thanks for the video recommendations Brandon, they were great.
Brandon and Dan missed one crucial connection with the soda syrup thieves-- what if these were the same group that stole all the Canadian maple syrup (and maybe only some of that group got pinched) and the rest of the group is down doing this soda thing, but they only steal syrup. Syrup is their thing, but it can be any variety of syrup. Maple syrup, soda syrup, maybe even cough syrup? All fair game for these guys.
Hi guys how’s it going? You guys are awesome!!
I’m reading Green Bone Saga trilogy right now thanks to your recommendation Dan. It’s excellent I just started book 2 this week. Thanks so much for bringing that one up on a prior episode!
What a podcast, not only is it entertaining to listen to, it also just made me spend an hour looking for plane tickets to Dan's Boardgame Retreat. Sadly I had to conclude the cost of travelling to the US would be to much, but I applaud your concept nonetheless
Sad to hear (or read) that
That ending....😂
Love you both, looking forward to this year with ya
Yay! Dan likes supernatural! I'm so happy!❤
Duloxetine has been a game changer for me as well. It's fantastic.
As someone who also didnt do well with SSRIs and was switched to Duloxetene. It did wonders for my panic
32:03 Question for Brandon. I watched Patrick (H) Willem’s video about Content based on your recommendation. How has that video affected your writing, if at all? Also, did you recommend that video because he name drops you at the end?
27:25 I have The Color of Magic, The Light Fantastic, Sorcerer, Moving Pictures, The Truth, Going Postal, Making Money, Unseen Academicals, and Making Steam on loop for my bed time audio book. Whenever I finish one, its on to the next one
2024 will be my bold return to magic. I stopped playing a while back but i've been playing timeless on arena and it's a great format. Tons of fun!
2023 was mostly very rough. I did enjoy getting my Year of Sanderson Books, they're very nice.
The red hot doctor peppers.
When Dan was finally promoting I was like T.I. would be so fun and then he delivered. What a man.
I was having the exact same thoughts.
I'd want to see what Dan would come up with for a TI Embers of the Imperium RPG adventure, too.
Just got my hardback copy of way of kings! It's even cooler than I thought it would be!
So I signed up for the Game Week, so yay me!
In Belgium we just had a pokemon card heist. Like 200k worth.
Game of the year was Baulders Gate III 😂
and best voice actor went to the actor of Astarion, so Dan got that prediction right, too.
Well deserved too. Such an amazing game.
almost as obvious as predicting elden ring 2022
8:04 Dan called it, halfway through January
I think Loki S2 was really good. Atleast that ending was worth a watch.
I'd actually love to hear how you two think about managing screen time for your kids. Is it not a concern? My toddler is still too young to even consider playing a video game, but I'd love to do that with him some day.
I can't remember if y'all have already discussed it, but there was a big magic card heist at last year's gencon.
Just putting it out there, I really enjoyed Thor Love and Thunder. I was in it for the laughs, and that worked for me
Dan, I’d love to hear your thoughts on Rocky aur Rani ki Prem Kahaani if you’ve seen it. If you haven’t, I think you would really enjoy it!
I love youtube. I dont watch tv, i dont watch movies, i just reed, watch youtube and go shoping with my mom. Thats literarly my life and i love it. Would not change it for disney land or nothing.😊
Just wanna plug Cradle kickstarter for an animated series. Could turn out really cool!
Has Dan said which is his favorite Sanderson's (cosmere) book?
Syruptitious Soda Swipers for the next t-shirt bracket!
Dan, do you have any materials for your Greenbone Blades in the Dark game? What if anything did you do to adapt the rules for the magic system?
The name of the new syrup stealer gang: The Pernicious Pepper Poachers...
Brandon you should also play Lies of P when you get a chance to I think it would be a game you absolutely love it is one of the best souls like I have ever played
Also, it hurts that y’all didn’t watch Godzilla Minus One. The real best film of 2023.
I had tickets but finally changed it and watched something else because I thought I might not like it 😥
@@hiltrud2001 oh man. It’s understandable if you don’t like monster movies, but it’s so much more than that. There were a few moments where I choked up, and the end had me in tears. You should give it a chance when you can.
I would love for them to review The Holdovers because that is my movie of the year.
We need a "Mobile Brandon Beach Base" playset. I can see He-man needing a place to craft his fiction; with a catapult and escape slide.
Dan, you should really check out Twilight Imperium: Shattered Ascension for your gaming session. Awesome community mod that gives that much more of an epic and strategic experience.
Armored Core Six ruled, I cannot recommend it enough. It's one of the best games at utilizing the NG+ feature and makes you feel like a bad ass the entire way.
Welcome to halfway thru January.
Never thought I'd see Brandon recommend Hbomberguy, but I suppose it's a brand new year.
How about Syrupticon (see-RUP-ti-kon) for the Dr P syrup heister?
Green Bone saga is top tier, must read
Name for the Dr.Pepper thieves...The Soda Jerks!
I know you guys don't get to watch too many movies, but you really need to see Godzilla Minus One. Easily my movie of the year.
Also, speaking of video game stories not working for Dan, has he tried Disco Elysium yet? I feel like he'd appreciate it.
Dan has tried Disco Elysium. I asked him about it when I finally got around to it. He played for a couple hours but disliked how so many characters are mostly just an angry, hateful caricature and it made him grumpy, so he dropped it.
Tears was the first 3D Zelda game I wasn’t really hyped about. I played through BOTW twice and Tears, while possessing a very cool building system, seems like more of the same mostly. I miss classic Zelda.
Same. I enjoyed my time in it, but after SIX YEARS, we needed something more. It was fun but it wasn't mind-blowing. It really was just BotW 2. Felt a lot like Majora's Mask vs OOT, only 6 years instead of 18 months.
It’s unpopular to say…but while I think BOTW is an amazing game…it’s not an S tier Zelda game. Certainly A tier. It doesn’t have the soul that Wind Waker, OOT, Link to the Past have.
I was so hyped for tears and it let me down. It was fun and the new things were cool but I dont find myself going back to play it. Unlike lttp and oot I've played multiple times. I just rated playing tunic and that feels more like the zelda games I remeber.
I really didn't like BotW and I have 0 interest in buying TotK. Shallow game with cool sandbox is not for me.
My view is that Tears of the Kingdom is a better game than Breath of the Wild, but mostly because BotW isn't as good as it seemed at the time.
In a world where BotW already exists, TotK is good but not fantastic, but in a world where the games that took lessons from BotW already existed, BotW would have been good but not great.
This must have been a very high traffic gas station to be able to actually use that much syrup. The mixture ratio on soda is generally 1 to 5.
Bro I wish I could have an entirely gaming weekend retreat.
Ooh, yay! I'm one of those medicinal chemists! Thanks!
I'm curious what insomnia medication, he was talking about cause I haven't found one that works for me.
The Pepper Jackers
THE SODA JERKS
COME OOONNNNN
Literally just said the same thing...and then saw you beat me too it 😂
SAME Dan
I will say, Baldur's gate runs fine (in chapter 1 and 2) on the steamdeck. However, it will murder your battery.
Bring back the one hour plus!
What a year eh
Not sure if this was explained in a previous podcast: does anyone know if Dan ever mentioned in detail WHY he loves Fonda Lee’s Green Bone saga so much? I read the first book and was massively disappointed. A fantasy novel about two rival gangs of powerful magic warriors should contain more than a light pinch of action, IMO.
Was going to say Dr. Theft-er, but Sir Updipidous is perfect.
My GOTY was actually Hi-Fi Rush.
Going Postal was great. Definitely one of my top five Discworld books
You should definitely do a podcast episode about DISCWORLD!!!
My partner suffers from insomnia and has not liked taking various other medications for the listed reasons. I'd love to know what Brandon found that works so well for him. Anyone know?
The Soda Jerks (though I dont know how many will understand the ye olde meaning/pun?)
Yay Duloxetine gang!
I would also recommend hbomberguy's video on pathologic. It's an old Russian game that Dan might get a kick out of.
OK, so how much lead time is there on these? To my understanding, game of the year was announced on December 7th (Dan did win the bet) and this is released on January 17? Wow! (Still always great content, just didn't realize they had this much lead time.)
It varies quite a bit, and episodes aren’t always released in the order they’re filmed.
"We can make this air at the end of December." Airs in mid-January. LOL.
Should cover the mtg card heist at last years GenCon.
Soda Swipers!
They got there a few minutes later.
Sanderson has not played video games to write Stormlight.Im crying right now ....
I can't wait for Stormlight 5 ... waiting 1 year feels like a lifetime :))
I expect to see shiny shoes in the next episode.
I tried calamity mod in terraria for the first time last year yeat too!
The soda surfers
I highly recommend loki season 2. It's a great conclusion. (and bg3)
Shame this was recorded too early before they could've seen Godzilla Minus One. I wanted to hear their thoughts if they had any.
Syr Syrruptitious the sneaky soda syrup swiper.
Wait. Did Supernatural end last year? I only know about it from containment breaches on tumblr but I thought it ended in 2020.
Can 2024 be The Year of Wells? Or should we wait until 2025 now since it's already a few weeks into January?
Loki Season 2 is the best thing to come out of Marvel since Spider man No way Home, I'd recommend.
Question/Suggestion- Have you and if you have not, watch Better Call Saul
Dan is so right, mission impossible was a huge let down. I left when they said the building was a neural network. I knew right away and was like "why do they have to state the obvious".
Longer podcasts please. 50 min to 1 hour at least.
Just finished Defiant and I was wondering where Brandon Sandersons mind was at? I loved the first two books of the skyward series, some of my favorites, but the third was God awful and the fourth felt he was pressed for time or just was more interested in other projects. Imo
Dan needs to play Alan Wake 2. It's a game about a horror author that changes reality with his stories after all.
I’m still enjoying the MCU movies for the most part but there has been a lot that has been disappointing about most of them recently (the only exception being GOTG3 which was mostly great). However I’ve pretty much given up on the MCU shows because Secret Invasion was just that bad and killed my faith that they can still make anything worth watching, so I’ve not bothered watching Loki2 or Echo and I doubt I’ll watch whatever comes next.
Brandon seems so much more open about movies after the mistborn negotiations fell out, glad and sad to see it
