I was 14, I just wanted to watch Marlo. She could have just walked around and talked about anything, I’d have watched. She’s still my favorite of all time. If only women still looked, dressed, acted as she did.
Friends dropped the ball when they had Marlo Thomas as Rachel's mother. They should have had asked Rachel which one is your mother? Point to her and say That Girl
Not only a great show but a documentary of the times - catch when the comdia writer offers a doctor monologue, Donald says, "How can SHE do a doctor monologue?" -those days on TV men were doctors and women were nurses - and many thought that's they way it should be in real life - yet women doctors are more attentive to the patient than male doctors on the whole and thus have higher recover statistics.
Yes! I just binge-watched a bunch of Dick van Dyke shows and thought, 'Hang on... I'm sure I remember (from childhood...) hearing Don Hollinger singing the 'Attila the Hun' song while seated at a piano in the That Girl show.' Confirmed!
@@FigaroHey Since Danny Thomas was involved in both shows I guess there was some crossover effect. The picture of horses that hung over the couch in the Petrie's home in Dick Van Dyke was just seen in Donald's apartment.
...but imagine the skill it takes to write to that fine line between funny and not funny. Where some laugh, while others don't. New deli. Rabies /smallpox. Any Bernie /anybody. Clearly not a highlight of the series. But still an example of craftsmanship in writing effort.
The sound of a rotary dial phone. Nostalgia from my childhood!!
Great casting - finding such a couple who played Don & Ann with great chemistry.
Marlo Thomas
Ted Bessell
Both unique and talented.
You know what this series sometimes lacked in material, more than made up in winning performances and the natural chemistry between Marlo and Ted.

She IS very watchable, no question.
Charisma.
@@bluecollarlit i do'nt mind watching her but her running everywhere and nervous energy gets to me and is very distracting.
I loved this when I discovered it in morning reruns, as a child, playing back to back with Bewitched.
Still love it now.

The director of the variety show was the owner of the shop in episode 1 where they were both trying to buy the rolltop desk.
As someone who grew up in a rural area, I use to wonder what the 'curb your dog' sign meant in the intro. Now I can just google it. Yay!
Wow those songs Don sang came straight out of the Dick Van Dyke show!
Not surprising, since Persky and Denoff also wrote the Dick Van Dyke episode (Bupkis) in which those songs are heard.
Both of Don's college songs were also used in The Dick Van Dyke show in the episode called Bupkis.

The two songs that Donald sung while sitting at the piano were also used in an episode of The Dick Van Dyke Show.

*Let me be the judge of that...*
I find myself waiting for *Now, that's the most ridiculous thing I ever heard!*
marla would never be 'that girl'
if she wasnt dannys girl ...
Sometimes Ann talks like a child. She has an annoying, squeaky, nasal voice.
I guess they were trying to immulate Lucille Ball's comedy.
@michellepost3098 her running around and nervous energy is off putting to me.
I had to.pass on.this episode. Writing was boring and not funny. Its OK because I loved at least 90% of the show

Ann talks like she has a cold. All she and Don do on most eps is eat and drink wine. Maybe it's from lacking sex.
Música de piano alegre 💛💙❤️
