- This Swedish SMR is a top of the line military ration that is right on par with the US MRE, British SMR, or Canadian IMP - absolutely worth coming back to for other menus or it's 24 hour variant. Truly one of the best, with memorably delectable dessert snacks and smooth coffee. Up next for Sweden is a nifty survival ration and a 24 hour freeze dried version.

My bone marrow transplant nurse asked why i was watching mre review videos if i couldnt eat any food from the chemotherapy.. said it mustve been "torture"...she just didnt understand. Thanks for filling me up when my stomach had to stay empty. Really helped keep me sane and reminded of better times watching your videos from home 😊
Edit update : should find out this week if I have to do radiation to complete this treatment. Wish me luck y'all! Thanks for all the kindness everyone, it really helps getting these nice little message updates. Helps keep my mind positive!
Thank you very much it genuinely means a lot@@ktkt9982
Taking stairs again and went on my first hike the other day.
Things are looking up!
Get my pet scan to see if I'm in remission in a couple months.
Hope you have a wonderful night.
🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
Hope everything goes well for you, keep fighting!
@@zeddwulfen7737 thanks everyone for the kindness!
I gotta stick around... After all, I can't miss his next upload 😏😅😉
Get well soon, keep fighting.
I gotta tell you, your videos are like blood-pressure & anti-anxiety meds for me. All the terrible news, the stress of work & all the very real problems get carried away by your cheerful voice, catchphrases and love of all foods shelf-stable. Hope you enjoy making them as much as we enjoy watching them Steve.
Same man. I just started my anxiety and blood pressure medicine Monday and I sit here and wonder why I take them if I can just keep Steve’s videos on repeat at all times.
❤
Steve, the one UA-camr who just gets his stuff out without regard for dragging it all out in the name of the UA-cam algo.
A true living legend.
Ad free too. What a guy.
I like to imagine that Steve is from the timeline where UA-cam held onto the passion and soul it used to have before people viewed the platform as a source of income and clout.
Whenever you see a video couple of seconds past 20 minutes for mid-rolls, remember this comment
No sponsored content too.. truly a blessing
FRHs are insufficient if you are in the Arctic, so boiling the rations to heat them is usually done. You need a fire source for colder months anyways.
Though that dont mean stuff always gets cooked all the way trough.
Vivid memories of eating fish in Tomato sauce with half-cooked rice in -25 degree weather. Good times.
We still use FRHs but it's mostly specialist roles.
In the much milder climate of the Scania region, FRHs and 24h meals are the norm on the first day of the contract obligated homeguard exercises. Also often due to late spring/early autumn wildfire hazard restrictions.
Fun, isn't it? The water you pour into the bag is boiling, but as you're outside, it gets colder fast and the food in the bag doesn't rehydrate properly and you end up eating half cold, crunchy food of the bag.
I've been watching your videos since early 2016 with no regret. No drama, no weirdness, just your genuine self. You're one of the best channels out there and I pray you're always happy and doing well. Much love from Scotland!
I mean he ate a Boer war ration, there is definitely some weirdness
@@cthulhudreams7578 😅But it's fascinating!
Im so happy you added the peanuts to the lentil cssserole. I was hoping youd do it when I saw it all layed out on the tray.
nice! adding peanuts is a real win with a curry
Seems like peanuts in any ration are a force multiplier. You can add them to either the main or the dessert and it makes them better
Yup. Add nuts, any tomato sauce main becomes a nice Thai curry.
@@Steve1989MRE I was hoping on you trying it with some of the fruit chews! But, it was crying for the peanuts
Could improvise a dessert with the drink mix, protein bar, strawberries and nuts
The little piff crush of the freeze dried coffee packet and the extra clink on the spoon made my day.
2 videos at once? You’re spoiling us Steve!
nice!
@@Steve1989MRE You know who would really like this ration? Andy Richter the Swedish Mexican.
@@DonariaRegia That old chunk of coal?
Sweden has always been at the vanguard of mesoamerican cultural cuisine
Mexican mostly just means somewhat mexican spices, bell pepper and perhaps corn. Mexicana soup is an old time favorite freezedried soup
The new POV zoom ins are a nice touch! Glad you’re back !!
That protein taffy made a great separation sound when you tore it apart.
My friend who's in the military here in sweden got me their newest prototype ration, main feature was the new re-usable FRH bag.
It has an amazing heating ability, almost boiling. The bag is also so big it can easily heat up 2 400g mains in one go. I thought Steve would love to check these out, but idk how to get the FRH through the export control.
I always love how Steve mixes stuff into the main gotta have tht crunch!
Omg. Thank you Steve. I’ve had a horrendous day. Your voice and video calm my nerves
Blå Band is a common brand here, they’ve been making food for camping and an outdoor lifestyle for a long time. We got them in combat rations as early as 2001. Good food with a good macro. They’re a lot better than the old “Guldburk”, which was cans of long shelf life food we got previously. They weren’t horrible, they just weren’t amazing.
Best spoon and glass clinks, yet.🤩
Just thought that I'd pass this along. Tasting History with Max Miller had a video on SOS and military food, and he referenced you. Might be worth your time to give it a look. Bravo Zulu, good sir.
My father served in the Reserves in the late 80's, some of my esrliest memories are eating rations he brought back! I remember a delectable fruit bar that the taffy reminded me of
I have no idea why these videos are so therapeutic.
Nice! Double uploads are the best.
Nice! I agree, it's always more fun
alright cool, see ya
Bought myself a Dutch 2022 ration which has everything from Orifo. I was quite amazed of the quality of everything. Above expectation.
I often spent summers on Lake Superior on a boat large enough to live/sleep on. So we had a tiny but functional kitchen and did not eat this sort of thing, but rather two simple cold meals with coffee or hot chocolate, and a warm dinner. Usually meat, salad or long lasting vegetables, and packaged noodles or potatoes. If it was warm, we would grill outside, and if it was cold, cook everything possible in and on a small oven with two top burners, to help heat the boat, low and long.
This resembles something people might take backpacking, or on a multi-day trip on a small boat without much for kitchen facilities. But most experienced boaters in that area prefer to use their own cooking facilities if they have them.
My grandfather used to captain boats for school and camp trips, and got very sick of these sorts of meals (if you work on a boat, they agree to feed you to the same standard as others), so when we could, my parents would meet his boat and he would eat with us. He was a WW2 Pacific veteran, so maybe he didn’t like eating things like MREs.
This guys appreciation for the most basic things always gets me.
The flameless heater bags always come separate from the Swedish ration pouches and issued when needed. It's always interesting to see differences like that.
Been rewatching videos, love your reviews. Me I do have access to a military base and most recently almost got a few MREs from the Commissary, and just recently ordered some so looking forward to trying some, my Dad who was US Navy vet, we to this day have a 70s era MRE stored a bread unit but its been mia for a long time. Hoping to find it .
Cat: Hisses
Steve: Nice little hiss. Let's get this out on to tray. Nice!
Steve you always make my days brighter 🙂 you could talk about paint drying and I would still find it fascinating.
I like this ration better than the MRE Steve reviewed yesterday.
I can't eat anything but I still watch him eat
He's reading those nutrition facts like Mr. Larry Wolfe Pit himself. Nice! ❤
I had no idea Swedes liked Mexican food.
It started with tacos in the early-mid 1990ies, often introduced via foreign exchange students coming back from their highschool year in the west and south western US states.
Its fairly popular in Scandinavia
The 24 hour meals website sells this stuff to the public, that cranberry bar is 21 krone each.
Yeeeesssss the spoon song returns!!!!! Let’s goooooo Steve!!!!
Come back soon buddy!
“very inviting”.. this whole video is a blissful meditation. thanks Steve
I was not expecting that protein bar. Surprised to hear it tasted so good!
Hey! good to se you take up the Swedsih MRE rewive slack, because i think my MRE video days are over. Keep up the good work! :)
More Steve is always a good thing
I just absolutely love sitting and eating lunch with you lol can't wait too see your next culinary adventure 😂
Thank you Steve 89.. ol boy needed this
Idea for a spinoff. Grandma's Refrigerator Challenge. Steve eats random things found in the refrigerators of various people's grandmothers.😅
Nice!!! As always, great video!!! Good to see a new and up to date review.
Nice! alright cool, see ya
I awoke from my nighttime nap to see that Steve posted. Best day ever
I wish I loved anything as much as Steve loves his MRE coffees. 😔
Find your vids so relaxing. You're like the Bob Ross of MREs.
Steve has been on fire these last few days, love it this ration!
Keep up Steve =)
You're spoiling us. Viva La Steve!
Hi Steve,
I’m currently renovating an old Japanese house and I found an emergency food kit from the 80s. Not sure if it’s something you’d be interested in, but happy to send it your way if you are! Give me a shout :)
You should send it to him, his mailing info is in the description.
Steve1989 is the grownups version of Steve from blues clues. So heartwarming to watch a man in love with his passion
Omg omg Steve finally does a Swedish kit again!!! Thank you Steve!! 😍😍
Three uploads... Steve, you're spoiling us! 😳🙈♥
This legend really hit us with a triple!
Steve has the most developed taste for instant coffee the world will ever see.
A Nordic food favorite
Steve, im from Maryland. Let me say you are loved around the world
If you search those protein bars, looks like they are available for sale online individually from 24 hour meals. Currently sold out and I'm pretty sure you have to be Swedish to get it shipped to you
Absolutely Love all your videos Mr Steve, keep up what you love doing brother.
Edit: That PBJ vibe has me drooling over those juice bites for some reason...
Steve probably won’t see this but there is a 122 year old tin of chocolate from the Boer war being auctioned off at Eddison’s Auctions here in the UK, would be great for his collection!
Dammit Steve!! Is freaking 2:00am watching this and I’m getting freaking hungry!!👋🤣👉🤤thanks a lot!
An old school Ken-L Ration tee? Outstanding! 👍
I always wanted to make up a custom Purina People Chow shirt then dine-in at a Jack in the Box... just to see if anyone would get the joke. 😆
This ration looked pretty good, I'd definitely use it while camping
3 videos in 2 days! Nice.
Oh man, imagine Steve MRE and Gun Jesus doing a collab, it would be like the best thing ever!
The Blå Band freeze dried meals are the fucking bomb. I stole so many during my stint in the Finnish army I got the kitchen staff audited.
3:15 Listen carefully, and enjoy !
And @ 6:50 4,500mg of Sodium per Meal !
We are being spoiled with these gifts of videos 😢!!!! Let's gooo!!!!
Perk Unlocked: Ration Resilience
It’s always a pleasant suprise to see you in my reccommended. :D
This man's stomach is a culinary machine!
Nice little hiss! 😂 my favorite thing you do.
I might need to do a curry with peanuts sometime, looked really good!
I need a link to that intro music. Who created that? I keep repeating it 🎵🎶🎵🎶🎵🎶
Makes me want to buy one for lunch!
that protein bar looks like a cow's tongue made out of laffy taffy
Steve is spoiling us. Thank you bud.
I call you sorry for my terryfic inglish of what is most the same!!😂
Looks nice. Personally, I would add some rice to the main course
Superlative content. Congrats.
Sweden generally has a cold climate, so the bar being a bit sticky would probably not be a problem. :)
I knew the raspberry bar would hit man I just knew it
As a Swede, of course I subscribe now.
Look who is back eating my countires food nice okay 😄❤️
We got Paul to 1m subs. Legit.
Now I wanna buy some MREs and just have them to eat every now and then
Hey Steve I've got an idea to pitch you. You've already made your own thanksgiving dinner MRE, why not try cooking up and packaging (canning?) some of those vintage menus just to give an idea what a Nam or WWII ration might have looked and tasted like new? Unfortunately they STILL don't make ciggies like they used to! Hey, there's another idea altogether!
I wonder if there's a science to the snack pairings on MREs. Having peanuts that combo great with two other items can't be a coincidence. I'd bet if you could've stuck them into the protein bar, they'd fit just as well.
Watching this channel for years.... still amazing
I wanna smoke one of those old cigarettes so bad ,you are lucky to have done that.
The Swedish get it, mix in entrees from other countries because it's less likely the soldiers will have a preconception of what it should taste like and as such won't be disappointed. Any MRE meal that's something you eat normally is going to be disappointing to some degree(though sometimes nice to get a bit of a taste from home even if it tastes off).
Swedish Military eating better than me!
The extra dink was soul-satisfying.
Hi Steve, love your videos, and Happy New Year to you
ANOTHER ONE LETS FUCKING GOOOOOOOOOOOOO
Steve is looking huge!! Those rations sure are helpful
Looks tasty
24 hour meals is the name of the company that puts these together. 😊
Always great stuff
The musical spoon tap still gets me every time 😂
Same 🤣
I love that attention to detail
A fun thing Steve adds, I like it too
We were blessed with double the spoon tap!
I love how he does that. Always find that cool.
i will never not be fascinated by steve's appreciation for gussets
Or freeze dried coffee
Well, if the gussets are bad, than the food goes bad, so it makes sense a seasoned MRE enjoyed would make note of good container design. I'm pretty sure he got really sick once eating an improperly packaged MRE.
Right
Steve is secretly activating sleeper agents with the drink taps
