  • Varennes is about 30km from downtown Montreal by bike on comfortable routes, mostly separated from cars, making it an accessible day trip (or half-day trip) for Montreal cyclists looking to cover a reasonable but not exhausting distance. It also features interesting historic village-style neighbourhoods with interesting architecture.

    This is a great ride. I generally do it several times a season. I'd recommend taking the Champlain Bridge over the Jacque-Cartier bridge.. But then again, I suppose that would depend on where you would be accessing it from the island.
    Ride Hard, Ride Safe. Have a great season, everyone

    Yeah varennes and boucherville r great places to buy homes and raise families. The trend of remote working will probably grow their popularity even more. The owner victorifiying his home shows how affordable real estate is on the shore and you can see similar homes in st.lambert and Greenfield park. I went to school with kids whose families added indoor pools and tennis courts to their properties and the houses along Riverside drive in st. Lambert are full of bespoke homes that have been featured in local architectural magazines.
    This is great for families, but as teens we couldn't wait to get off the Shore and move out to Montreal because holy hell is it boring 😛

    Montreal is quite the hub for urban and leasure cyclists in Canada.
    I think it is even better then many places in Germany.
    I am jealous.

    Since there's also a ferry from Montreal's Parc de la promenade Bellerive to the Boucherville's Islands national parc, one can cross from Boucherville to Montréal via the national parc. It would be a little costly, around 25$ I guess, but the national parc is a great place to see and the ferry ride does worth it.

    Many different styles of housing.
    Many houses with front porches and the appartment building with multiple front doors (this time entirely made in timber).

    How do you guys film your bike rides? Do you use an action cam and chest mount or something else? I'd love to know!

    • @OhTheUrbanity
      @OhTheUrbanity  3 роки тому +4

      Originally we had an action cam but we weren't quite getting the results that we wanted. Now we each have a DJI Pocket, which is a small camera with an integrated gimbal for stabilization. It's not as tough as an action camera (including not being waterproof) but it's a good size and we're really happy with the smoothness and quality of the video. The original Pocket is about CAD$350, and the Pocket 2 is around $650, and they're both excellent. If the money makes sense for you, we highly recommend one of them!

    you should also share the route you took. Either a google map or kamoot route in the description would be great!

    Nice video. I rode that route in September and enjoyed it. Re. The pseudo-victorian house - It looks Disneyland fake - cheesy and overdone...

    I rather enjoy the outskirts of those cities that look like old towns

    If you're trying to find ice cream, if suggest Pile ou Glace in Little Italy or their second location at Rue Fleury. It's gelato in case that matters.
