Your take on the wisemen was very insightful and worth pondering over. But consider this also. When Christ visited the America’s he said to them that they were the sheep that he spoke about to the Jews. He also said that he had other sheep he had to go visit that were even from another fold. Consider this, that these wisemen were prophets themselves from those other sheep or nations that he had to visit after he left the nephrite’s. Or at least they were taught what the sign meant. They had to know what it meant and that’s why they came. Just a thought. After all there were other nations around besides the stick of juda and Joseph. Wouldn’t the Lord also send prophets to them as well. To teach them about the coming of Christ. They knew what that star meant.
3 days to find him after they “lost” Jesus and 3 days after his death, Christ resurrected. In both instances, we find HIM teaching people on both sides of the veil. Jason from the Weekly Dive podcast explains this parallel beautifully! Wow. Thank you for edifying our souls, brethren! Great lesson!

As my kids and I studied this weeks lesson we learned some things from Anna and Simeon. Simeon teaches us that it’s important to recognize and act upon the promptings of the Holy Ghost. He will lead us the Christ. It’s all the Lord’s timing. Anna teaches us that if we are continuously about the Lord’s work and keep our hearts and minds focused on the temple, then that is where we will find Christ. No one told them who he was. They recognized him on their own. Which reminded me that when we see him we will know him because we will be like him. My 10 year old insightfully said concerning Anna, that we should worship Christ and follow him no matter how hard life gets. Also. Once they had this knowledge they didn’t keep it to themselves. They shared their testimonies with all who would listen. We can also stand as a witness of Christ today wherever we are. I always love your videos. They are so insightful. Thanks for all you do at Scripture Central. 💕

What a good reminder that we need to do the work ourselves to build our testimony. I pray that I am not relying too much on you to build my testimony and that I get more into the scriptures myself. This video was the best I´ve watched so far. It brought so much light to some parts of what Luke wrote and the teachings came with such tenderness and care, I enjoyed every moment. I had never learned so many symbolisms related to the Lord´s coming to this Earth and to His infinite Sacrifice. Thank you once more for your efforts in teacing us thru the Spirit.

I would like to add a thought about Joseph. I have heard of Joseph referred to as a step-father, however, I think of Joseph as an earthly adoptive father. Joseph raised Christ as his own. He loved him as his own. Joseph gave Christ his family name, lineage, and taught him in his profession. IMO
Wow, this was such an amazing presentation Brethren. I had to pull out the tissues for this one because the insights were so beautiful. I always wondered why there was no place for Joseph and Mary to go to, considering it was Joseph's hometown. I wondered why there were no relatives to take them in. Even though the Inns were not available, I still wondered, for a man with a lineage steeped in the town of Bethlehem, where was the extended family? Well, this presentation answered that question for me. I think of how disheartening that would have been for Joseph and Mary. I am glad they had each other. On the one hand, one could look at this situation and say that God was not fair. They were on an important errand and yet, they had to go through the birthing process alone (I do hope there was a midwife there to help them). However, on the other hand, I feel the birth along with its challenges and discomforts, had to happen the way it did because it had to happen under the radar I think the Angels could have appeared to the whole of Bethlehem, but I see they only appeared to the Shephards because they were believers. I love the location shots, and I just want to thank everyone for giving us such an amazing presentation full of spiritual diamonds. Practically every point and word here was and is an insight. I feel like I was witnessing the events first-hand with this presentation, so grateful ❤️.
I have often wondered if Joseph delivered Jesus. Was he the first person to touch the baby Jesus. I love the man Josand I can see him fulfilling this responsibility.

It truly is one of the most beautiful and spiritual lessons your have given. I so appreciate your giving me the symbolisms of the Birth of the Savior Jesus Christ that are important for me to learn in my life and journey in building my testimony of the Living Christ. I have read and heard this story hundreds of time in my life, but NEVER have I had the insights, lessons or feelings of humbleness that I received today and the witness of their importance to my life and testimony of the Son of God THANK YOU!

Coming from a varied religious background before joining the church, I knew the meaning of tekton and it's meaning regarding Christ before joining the church at the age of 14. Never heard my fellow lds brothers and sisters use tekton until Taylor and Tyler. They do a great job of getting into the scriptures, word etymology, historical, political background, etc. than most do, which is why I listen to them. Tekton from their lesson is probably the first most have ever heard the word. Very few non lds biblical scholars have used that word from my observation. Glad you listened to their lesson.
I’m quite honestly not sure where you’re coming from. I’ve been a member, my whole life after my mom joined the church, that’s 63 years, and I’ve always understood that Christ was likely a stonemason. It seems that it’s the rest of Christianity that continued to refer to their God as a “Jewish Carpenter.”
@@rndyh77 yeah that's the point, simply a carpenter. Just a carpenter, as an after thought. Most Christians and lds I found weren't to studious regarding the scriptures especially when it came to the term carpenter, especially tekton. It took 45 years until I heard an lds person to use the word tekton. Glas you are listening to the lessons.
My profuse thank you Taylor and Tyler for the added depth and richness of the layers of symbolism that you help to reveal to us. I don't know if this observation has been shared, but I had, not long ago, learned that in addition to the shepherds in the field being "temple" shepherds as it were, new first born lambs, they also would have swaddled those precious and perfect lambs in cloth against stain or damage until -- Passover. Oh my goodness. I just now connected that last dot. Thank you brothers.
As I sat and listened to you describing that there was no room for "them" at the inns, I realized that I didn't ever think that Joseph was placed in that same situation. Was it possible that because Joseph did the thing that the angel told him to do, that the people nearest and dearest to him decided that he should be shunned also? Did they think that he was the cause of the problem? So severe was their culture and so ingrained their custom that charity didn't arise to help them? I love Joseph and his example - his faith in Mary and the Lord and knowing that he was going to be the earthly father of the Lord Jesus Christ could not have been easy for him also. Wow. When I was reading no scriptures I didn't think of all the many ends and outs and and it's information you all did. I come out with a better understanding after listening to this. Excellent, thanks.
As I see the video depiction of Jesus teaching in the temple, I wonder if the people were amazed by both; what He was saying, and the fact that he was a male child of that age. Most of the male children in that area would have been slain by Herod.
That’s an interesting idea. Herod only killed all the male children in the Bethlehem area (and it probably wasn’t a massive amount… maybe a little more than a dozen).
Years ago I read a poem -- by an author whose name I don't remember -- that touched upon that night of nights so long ago. May I share it -- to the best of my memory? "Who were the angels who trod the highways of the Christmas sky, Who were those angels -- yes -- just who and why? All in their brightest vestments did they stay behind to chorus their great joy? To welcome to earth with holy mirth, Lord Jesus, blessed Mary's newborn boy. Who were the angels lighting up the skies? Almost I can remember, almost see, The angels, blessed dead now soon to rise, The angels yet unborn waiting waiting to be -- YOU AND ME! Who were the angels? Let us bring, Our accolades, oh let them ring, Who were the angels -- let US sing again: Glory to God on high and peace on earth to men."
I think they're using this cave as an example. They mentioned the caves were primarily for sheep, and their protection, so the door would have necessitated being small. I think it's more about the idea than them saying, THIS CAVE is the place. But I hear you!! :)

As I compare myself to Herod and the Wisemen, I see that at times I am Herod. However, I would much rather be the Wisemem. And sometimes I am. Case in point WHERE the Savior was born in Bethlehem which means "House of Bread" The Great Provider declared himself to be the 'Bread of Life' (John 6:48). How appropriate it was that He, the 'bread of life' was to come from the 'house of bread' !!

I lost my son he was missing for a whole night he was only 7. I was frantic as to where my child had disappeared to. Many people searched for him and he was found safe in the early hours of the morning. I can imagine how Mary and Joseph must have felt

Was not this taking place in early April, which in this country is lambing season which explains why the shepherds were watching over the sheep at night instead of them merely being enclosed in a fold guarded by one or two shepherds. Lambs were the main symbolic sacrifice offered in the temple. One writer suggested that these shepherds were watching over the flock producing lambs specifically for the temple sacrifices, and these shepherds had a unique sacred charge. Not just any lowly shepherds.
Last week when we went throught the lineage of Joseph we saw that he was a direct dependent of David and my understanding was that he would have then been the Jewish king. My take away was that with all the conquests brought against the Jewish people that they no longer had a Jewish king as, at the time of Christ, they were under Roman rule. Today King Herrod was mentioned as the king of the Jews which helped me really realize why he would want Jesus killed. My question is - how did Herrod become the king then if he wasn't of the royal bloodline like Joseph? When we learned last week about Joseph's lineage I thought Jewish kings were no more...
You are right that the conquests did disrupt the line of kings. As I understand it, Herod is believed to be of Edomite descent (children of Esau) with a Jewish mother whose ancestors converted to Judaism. His father came to political power under Rome and when he helped save Julius Caesar in battle, he was awarded Roman citizenship and appointed chief minister of Judea. He made Herod and his brother governors and that paved the way for Herod to take over as a client king under Roman rule. (Displacing the previous Jewish client king) Hence he was the king of the Jews but the title was political and they weren't independent.
Such poetry listening and pondering this account through Luke's point of view. What a ppwerful insight that the Savior and Redeemer is the Salvation for all of us as long as we seek Him every single day in what we say or do.
I wish people would stop calling Joseph Jesus’ Stepfather. Joseph gave his family name to Jesus; he adopted Jesus and raised him as his own. Adoption is mentioned throughout the scriptures as a symbol of being a true heir of a family. Just as we are all heirs to the Kingdom of the Father.
Yes there are definitely things we definitely keep sacred and quietly ponder in our hearts, but I also very much appreciate when people aren’t afraid to be vulnerable and share in an appropriate setting, personal stories and testimonies like the Shepherds who made haste to joyfully share their revelatory experience. It often feels like many are apologetic or ashamed for “getting too personal “ when sharing testimony or experiences, when that’s exactly what touches my heart and buoys my strength and testimony. I’m grateful for scripture,prophets and prophetesses(Anna)and saints who bare personal testimony not afraid to be vulnerable in sharing their experiences with Jesus Christ.
Tyler mentioned two things that I've been trying to find any reference online. One, is the belief that Jesus had sisters. I believe that, but I was looking for anyplace it was referenced. The other regards the way the two doves were sacrificed. Specifically, the plucking and tossing of the un-needed parts toward the east and the Garden.
Thank you for all the knowledge you brought to this episode. My testimony grew, and my desire to serve the Lord with all my heart expanded. I feel privileged to click and access something so great.
Excellent video, as always. I believe that people want to fantasize Mary and Joseph being 'dirt poor' when at the temple and even beforehand. Being in a manager was because of quarantine ritual under mosiac law and turtle doves was within their custom of fowl sacrifice found in Numbers 6:10 I like the types spoken of such as leaving the 99 to see the 1 (Lamb of God)
Anna was over 100 years-- she was a widow for 84 years! You have to add her time as a widow to her time living with her husband to her age at time of marriage. She was probably 105 years of age or older!
I love all the insights that you share. The scene in the cave in Bethlehem was especially moving, as it is so nice to have visuals to expand understanding of the story. In reference to the "wise men" or magi, I've always believed that they were prophets from eastern lands come to see the Savior. See 2 Nephi 14 about God giving His word to all nations. I wonder if collections were taken up among the believers to finance the trip and provide the gifts. Just something to think about. Perhaps this is one of the plain and precious parts taken from the original to obscure truths.

We had just moved to a place a week or so ago and our sons went to a class friend of his living just a few houses from us. The older son came home and told that his brother left a long time ago. We looked everywhere. Finally, some friends biking found him in the gas station 1/3 mile from home. He had taken the road down as he should have taken it up. That was scarry!
Many homes had the family living on the upper floor and the animals kept on the lower floor. It may have been that they were in the lower floor with the animals in a family members home.
Just an FYI, bat mitzvahs were not done in Jesus' time. They were started herein the US in 1922 by Rabbi Kaplan for his daughter Judith. He was a reformist Jew. Also, please note that bar mitzvah did not exist in the time of Jesus. Rabbinc sources specify that a boy became a legal adult at age 13, but the ceremonies are not mentioned until about 500 AD.
I love to cross scriptures specially when the Book of Mormon expounds on stories and fact… 2 Nephi 17 expounds on what happened to Joseph, Mary and Child Jesus.
Whoa!!! I was in that Brigham City ward for a brief time and was there when he was first called as Bishop, replacing Bishop Bateman. I hadn’t put together that we were likely in the same ward for a few months.
Before Jesus' death we have Herod finally meeting Jesus. "When Herod saw Jesus, he was greatly pleased because for a long time he had been wanting to see him. " I have wondered what action a king could take to see him. Conceivably he could have sent soldiers to arrest him when he was in his territory. But apparently took no action. Do we desire something but stop there?

Luke 23:8 tells us that Herod Antipas was eager to finally meet Jesus: “And when Herod saw Jesus, he was exceeding glad: for he was desirous to see him of a long season, because he had heard many things of him; and he hoped to have seen some miracle done by him.” But what about prior to this encounter? Did Herod make any effort to meet him? He waited until Jesus was brought to him. My understanding and the point. If I desire Jesus what effort do I make to meet or invite him. Am I humble and ready? Or just wanting a magic show?
Matthew 2:2 ...have seen his star in the east... When they saw the star it was to the east is the way I read this. That would mean they came from the west. Correct?
Thank you for your messages really helps me with my scripture study. Is there a possibility as mentioned in Micah 4:8 that Jesus could have been born in the tower of the flock or Migdal Eder? A reason I have read from a Jewish source why Mary and Joseph would not have be accepted into their family homes is that if she gave birth in their homes it would render them to be unclean and who ever lived within would not have been able to participate in the upcoming (Pesach) Passover feasts.

Carissimi Tylor and Taylor....Thank you for once again another superb spiritually and uplifting video about the life of our Lord. I am really learning a lot from your Gospel lessons like never before......I have a question about the birth of our Lord.....I came to understand through the studying of the Gospels...and of course I might be wrong....that the Annunciation might have happened sometime in July of 7 B.C. The Birth around April of 6 BC...and the Crucifixion around perhaps 27/28 A.D.? What do you think of my calculations? Thank You. PS..I had to factor in the death of Herod the Great...around 4 B.C.?
Just some speculative rhetorical questions: Would Mary and Joseph willingly have chosen to "stay" in the cave because they recognized the same cultural "cleanness" issues? With the cave being a naturally protective place, maybe they chose a cave to protect themselves against people's prejudices? Perhaps they stayed away from the "inns" until the cleanness issues dispersed? Until a law was satisfied? Just some interesting questions.
Is it possible that the magi were part of the lost tribes? If they were from another country and culture, how would they know about a Jewish messiah and why would they care unless they had a connection to the prophecy?
Not bad, but you missed on a few things. You got "the inn" correct, and the time factor correct. But you missed on "the room". Luke rightly points out no proper place/room for giving birth. When you mentioned purity laws I thought you would get it. The cave is out, not clean. There was one place available that was specifically meant for birth and this is were they went, the Migdal Edar. The place were the sacrificial lambs, to be used in the temple, were born.
I never knew the turtle doves bleed from every pore when plucked and killed . So much symbolism . I still think it is gross to kill little animals . I’m glad we do not need to do that any more .
Perhaps someone else has asked this question. It doesn't seem very responsible or kind for Jesus to stay behind in Jerusalem when he must have known Mary and Joseph would miss him and be concerned. Yet Jesus was to be perfect. His actions don't appear to be "perfect". Any help on my question?
Mind blown...the description of Jesus being a builder makes perfect sense how Jesus would learn all those languages.

Never heard my fellow lds brothers and sisters use tekton until Taylor and Tyler. They do a great job of getting into the scriptures, word etymology, historical, political background, etc. than most do, which is why I listen to them. Tekton from their lesson is probably the first most have ever heard the word. Very few non lds biblical scholars have used that word from my observation. Glad you listened to their lesson.

I’m quite honestly not sure where you’re coming from. I’ve been a member, my whole life after my mom joined the church, that’s 63 years, and I’ve always understood that Christ was likely a stonemason. It seems that it’s the rest of Christianity that continued to refer to their God as a “Jewish Carpenter.”
@@rndyh77 yeah that's the point, simply a carpenter. Just a carpenter, as an after thought. Most Christians and lds I found weren't to studious regarding the scriptures especially when it came to the term carpenter, especially tekton. It took 45 years until I heard an lds person to use the word tekton. Glas you are listening to the lessons.
My profuse thank you Taylor and Tyler for the added depth and richness of the layers of symbolism that you help to reveal to us. I don't know if this observation has been shared, but I had, not long ago, learned that in addition to the shepherds in the field being "temple" shepherds as it were, new first born lambs, they also would have swaddled those precious and perfect lambs in cloth against stain or damage until -- Passover. Oh my goodness.

As I sat and listened to you describing that there was no room for "them" at the inns, I realized that I didn't ever think that Joseph was placed in that same situation. Was it possible that because Joseph did the thing that the angel told him to do, that the people nearest and dearest to him decided that he should be shunned also? Did they think that he was the cause of the problem? So severe was their culture and so ingrained their custom that charity didn't arise to help them? I love Joseph and his example - his faith in Mary and the Lord and knowing that he was going to be the earthly father of the Lord Jesus Christ could not have been easy for him also. Wow. I had never thought of that before. Thanks so much for your wonderful insights! Loved the Holy Land insets.

As I see the video depiction of Jesus teaching in the temple, I wonder if the people were amazed by both; what He was saying, and the fact that he was a male child of that age. Most of the male children in that area would have been slain by Herod.
That’s an interesting idea. Herod only killed all the male children in the Bethlehem area (and it probably wasn’t a massive amount… maybe a little more than a dozen).
Years ago I read a poem -- by an author whose name I don't remember -- that touched upon that night of nights so long ago. May I share it -- to the best of my memory?

I think they're using this cave as an example. They mentioned the caves were primarily for sheep, and their protection, so the door would have necessitated being small. I think it's more about the idea than them saying, THIS CAVE is the place. But I hear you!! :)

As I compare myself to Herod and the Wisemen, I see that at times I am Herod. However, I would much rather be the Wisemem. And sometimes I am. I can see how important it is for me to go and search for myself to gain that testimony of Jesus Christ.

Case in point WHERE the Savior was born in Bethlehem which means "House of Bread" The Great Provider declared himself to be the 'Bread of Life' (John 6:48). How appropriate it was that He, the 'bread of life' was to come from the 'house of bread' !!

I lost my son he was missing for a whole night he was only 7. I was frantic as to where my child had disappeared to. Many people searched for him and he was found safe in the early hours of the morning. I can imagine how Mary and Joseph must have felt

Was not this taking place in early April, which in this country is lambing season which explains why the shepherds were watching over the sheep at night instead of them merely being enclosed in a fold guarded by one or two shepherds. Lambs were the main symbolic sacrifice offered in the temple. One writer suggested that these shepherds were watching over the flock producing lambs specifically for the temple sacrifices, and these shepherds had a unique sacred charge. Not just any lowly shepherds.

Last week when we went throught the lineage of Joseph we saw that he was a direct dependent of David and my understanding was that he would have then been the Jewish king. My take away was that with all the conquests brought against the Jewish people that they no longer had a Jewish king as, at the time of Christ, they were under Roman rule. Today King Herrod was mentioned as the king of the Jews which helped me really realize why he would want Jesus killed. My question is - how did Herrod become the king then if he wasn't of the royal bloodline like Joseph? When we learned last week about Joseph's lineage I thought Jewish kings were no more...
You are right that the conquests did disrupt the line of kings. As I understand it, Herod is believed to be of Edomite descent (children of Esau) with a Jewish mother whose ancestors converted to Judaism. His father came to political power under Rome and when he helped save Julius Caesar in battle, he was awarded Roman citizenship and appointed chief minister of Judea. He made Herod and his brother governors and that paved the way for Herod to take over as a client king under Roman rule. (Displacing the previous Jewish client king) Hence he was the king of the Jews but the title was political and they weren't independent.

I wish people would stop calling Joseph Jesus’ Stepfather. Joseph gave his family name to Jesus; he adopted Jesus and raised him as his own. Adoption is mentioned throughout the scriptures as a symbol of being a true heir of a family. Just as we are all heirs to the Kingdom of the Father.
Yes there are definitely things we definitely keep sacred and quietly ponder in our hearts, but I also very much appreciate when people aren’t afraid to be vulnerable and share in an appropriate setting, personal stories and testimonies like the Shepherds who made haste to joyfully share their revelatory experience. It often feels like many are apologetic or ashamed for “getting too personal “ when sharing testimony or experiences, when that’s exactly what touches my heart and buoys my strength and testimony. I’m grateful for scripture,prophets and prophetesses(Anna)and saints who bare personal testimony not afraid to be vulnerable in sharing their experiences with Jesus Christ.
Tyler mentioned two things that I've been trying to find any reference online. One, is the belief that Jesus had sisters. I believe that, but I was looking for anyplace it was referenced. The other regards the way the two doves were sacrificed. Specifically, the plucking and tossing of the un-needed parts toward the east and the Garden.
Thank you for all the knowledge you brought to this episode. My testimony grew, and my desire to serve the Lord with all my heart expanded. I feel privileged to click and access something so great.

Being in a manager was because of quarantine ritual under mosiac law and turtle doves was within their custom of fowl sacrifice found in Numbers 6:10

Anna was over 100 years-- she was a widow for 84 years! You have to add her time as a widow to her time living with her husband to her age at time of marriage. She was probably 105 years of age or older!
I love all the insights that you share. The scene in the cave in Bethlehem was especially moving, as it is so nice to have visuals to expand understanding of the story. In reference to the "wise men" or magi, I've always believed that they were prophets from eastern lands come to see the Savior. See 2 Nephi 14 about God giving His word to all nations. I wonder if collections were taken up among the believers to finance the trip and provide the gifts. Just something to think about. Perhaps this is one of the plain and precious parts taken from the original to obscure truths.

I love how the word of the Shepherds were ignored just as the words of The Shepherd were ignored.
We had just moved to a place a week or so ago and our sons went to a class friend of his living just a few houses from us. The older son came home and told that his brother left a long time ago. We looked everywhere. Finally, some friends biking found him in the gas station 1/3 mile from home. He had taken the road down as he should have taken it up. That was scarry!
Many homes had the family living on the upper floor and the animals kept on the lower floor. It may have been that they were in the lower floor with the animals in a family members home.
The walk from Bethlehem to Nazareth is a full day’s walk. He would have stayed up there for four days and walked to and fro, once a week.
Just an FYI, bat mitzvahs were not done in Jesus' time. They were started herein the US in 1922 by Rabbi Kaplan for his daughter Judith. He was a reformist Jew. Also, please note that bar mitzvah did not exist in the time of Jesus. Rabbinc sources specify that a boy became a legal adult at age 13, but the ceremonies are not mentioned until about 500 AD.
FYI, it doesn't really matter. He is 12 (they were just comparing the age to a Jewish tradition) and what Jesus is doing at that age is what matters.

Whoa!!! I was in that Brigham City ward for a brief time and was there when he was first called as Bishop, replacing Bishop Bateman. I hadn’t put together that we were likely in the same ward for a few months.
Before Jesus' death we have Herod finally meeting Jesus. "When Herod saw Jesus, he was greatly pleased because for a long time he had been wanting to see him. " I have wondered what action a king could take to see him. Conceivably he could have sent soldiers to arrest him when he was in his territory. But apparently took no action. Do we desire something but stop there?

Luke 23:8 tells us that Herod Antipas was eager to finally meet Jesus: “And when Herod saw Jesus, he was exceeding glad: for he was desirous to see him of a long season, because he had heard many things of him; and he hoped to have seen some miracle done by him.” But what about prior to this encounter? Did Herod make any effort to meet him? He waited until Jesus was brought to him. My understanding and the point. If I desire Jesus what effort do I make to meet or invite him. Am I humble and ready? Or just wanting a magic show?

When they saw the star it was to the east is the way I read this. That would mean they came from the west. Correct?

A reason I have read from a Jewish source why Mary and Joseph would not have be accepted into their family homes is that if she gave birth in their homes it would render them to be unclean and who ever lived within would not have been able to participate in the upcoming (Pesach) Passover feasts.

I am really learning a lot from your Gospel lessons like never before......I have a question about the birth of our Lord.....I came to understand through the studying of the Gospels...and of course I might be wrong....that the Annunciation might have happened sometime in July of 7 B.C. The Birth around April of 6 BC...and the Crucifixion around perhaps 27/28 A.D.? What do you think of my calculations? Thank You. PS..I had to factor in the death of Herod the Great...around 4 B.C.?
Just some speculative rhetorical questions: Would Mary and Joseph willingly have chosen to "stay" in the cave because they recognized the same cultural "cleanness" issues?
With the cave being a naturally protective place, maybe they chose a cave to protect themselves against people's prejudices?
Perhaps they stayed away from the "inns" until the cleanness issues dispersed? Until a law was satisfied?

Where is the Prophecy of the Star that the Wise Men were waiting for? There is no reference in the Old Testament of the Star.
Based on the apocryphal readings of the infancy gospel of James, I don't think Joseph was poor. He is also a very old man.

Is it possible that the magi were part of the lost tribes? If they were from another country and culture, how would they know about a Jewish messiah and why would they care unless they had a connection to the prophecy?

Not bad, but you missed on a few things. You got "the inn" correct, and the time factor correct. But you missed on "the room". Luke rightly points out no proper place/room for giving birth. When you mentioned purity laws I thought you would get it. The cave is out, not clean. There was one place available that was specifically meant for birth and this is were they went, the Migdal Edar. The place were the sacrificial lambs, to be used in the temple, were born.
I never knew the turtle doves bleed from every pore when plucked and killed . So much symbolism . I still think it is gross to kill little animals . I’m glad we do not need to do that any more .

Perhaps someone else has asked this question. It doesn't seem very responsible or kind for Jesus to stay behind in Jerusalem when he must have known Mary and Joseph would miss him and be concerned. Yet Jesus was to be perfect. His actions don't appear to be "perfect". Any help on my question?
Perfect? Are you 100% sure? I would say he made some mistakes as he grew up in grace and truth.
