Wow, my intent on listening to this episode was to squeeze in some scripture while I made dinner, hoping to listen here and there in the background to check off scripture study. Busy life. So many personal thoughts and questions I've had came up in this episode. Wow. Such a neat and enlightening episode for me. For me, the perspective I gain from videos like this is my line up upon line. Thank you to all involved who make this channel and videos possible!
I have studied the Doctrine and Covenants for literally years---I'm 82, and with this presentation by you two wonderful teachers, it has finally come into complete focus for me. Thank you!
Thank you Scott and Casey. This looks to be a dynamic 2025 because you are willing to share your knowledge and love of the Doctrine and Covenants with us. I’m looking forward to every episode already. ❤
Love the format, the 4 "C's" and that you will speak to controversies. Im adding D&C Central to my regimen. Thank you - appreciate the breadth of knowledge combined testimony.
October 1971 Boyd K. Packer gave a talk entitled "The Only True and Living Church". This is a really good talk that addresses this controversy. It explains why the Lord was so direct. Good discussion. I agree with Casey on this interpretation and I also understand where Scott is coming from and love what he said and do see the woman that was driven in the wilderness per Rev 12. Christ only has one faithful and true Bride and that is his Covenant Church who are his authorized servants who spread the covenant to all the world. Great discussion and I'm excited for what you guys are doing.
I'm grateful for Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ for being aware of the language that allows me to understand His Will. Love the incredible insights both of you shared.
My new favorite go-to for CFM study this year! I love the healthy debate and differing POV. The respect you have for each other was refreshing and I appreciate both insights. I learned so much. Thank you!!
Thanks Scott & Casey for using the 4 C's. Love how you've put this together. I also like the RESTORATION REVEALED videos by Casey Griffiths. I look forward to watching each podcast/video weekly to help with understanding D&c and 'come follow me' lessons. 🙌
So glad you are explaining the D&C. It would be helpful if you could show the printed scriptures as you are reading them. I’m a visual learner and seeing the scriptures would help to understand and retain the message. Looking forward to learning and growing my testimony with your, Help. Best wishes for the coming year! Dorena Penner
I love your structure--the 4 C's. I also love how you treat the controversies which I found helpful. Regarding 1:30, I had the thought that what Jesus is referring to about the structure is consistent with his counsel about not pouring new wine into old wineskins in Matthew. Joseph Smith was advised not to join any church but is being taught about the new wineskin. Have I stretched that too far?
great review of D&C 1. so much great insight. I love the breakdown but I am really loving the controversial questions tied to the verse and taking on those questions head on. very insightful and wonderful. Keep the great content coming!
Thank you for putting your videos out so early. It allows me enough time to listen to you early in my preparations before all the other podcasts arrive on Wednesday or later.
Well, 1st and foremost, Scott & Casey, Kudos to you both! I have enjoyed the increased spiritual growth and knowledge that comes to me in watching/listening to your podcasts. I am so humbled by the Lord’s loving and guiding hand in pointing me in the direction to discover your presentations. Thank you so much for your work and diligence in sharing so much good. I enjoyed your insights and comments specific to Section 1 of the D&C. For me, the spot on comment as to regards of v.37 & 38, is yes, we’re ARE the one and only true church. Respectfully, my thinkinging; 1. We have the Priesthood with its right’s, privileges and has the Lords authorization and approval for the church’s members to use and participate as the lord has established. We should never apologize or hold back regarding the sacredness of holding that power by which the Saviors Church was originally establiShed, and the proper authority to Administer in the ordinances that have been outlined for us as Heavenly Fathers children must receive prior to returning back to him. In this context, this makes us the one and only true church, true because it is correct, and faithful, and authorized in receiving and exercising/bestowing the power of the holy priesthood unto the Church’s members as authorized. Secondly, from a little different perspective, and approach to the same verses; why was it that Joseph went to the Grove to pray? To learn which church was TRUE. So it makes sense that the Lord in talking to the prophet Joseph Smith years later, would say this is the one and only true church. He gave the same answer, while Joseph was in the Sacred Grove, when He said none of the churches are TRUE, but I will use you to help establish my Church. For me, it makes perfect sense that the Lord years later to the Prophet Joseph, would say the same. Same vernacular the He had declared previously. This is the TRUE church. It’s now established on the Earth. You now have a true church to belong to and if that fact, offends any other religions, then we need to discuss in a loving and caring fashion, and review with what history has in regards to the apostasy and the the following away, the dark ages, and the need for the savior to be truly involved in the church for man, and now we have just that because of the prophet and other great men that followed. Hope that makes some sense for you two prestigious, great scholars. I’m just a simple man trying to be a faithful servant to our Heavenly Father, and to our Savior, Jesus Christ. I further testify that true happiness comes by following what our current Prophet has admonished us to stay on the covenant path and to think celestial. Scott, I was surprised to hear of the town where you are living. I just live outside a short few miles from that same community. If I ever have a blessing to bump into you while walking in Walmart one day, please do not be taken back if I approach you with adoration and yet enthusiasm and ask you for an autograph. Casey, if you happen to be with Scott at that time, I would ask you for the same; An Autograph also. I am so happy for coming to know such fine men and brothers in the gospel. We are so blessed to be living in these last days. Bob
When I was growing up in the 60s, we were counseled by leaders against "blind obedience." We were advised to carefully ponder and pray about the words of our leaders and authorities in the church. My mother counseled, "The Lord gave you a brain, use it!"
Great discussion! Love the back and forth with the concerns and no fear of offending the other. Great example of how to discuss with kindness and respect.
I sincerely hope this "controversy" discussion with the two of you continues throughout this year and beyond. I'm gaining so much understanding of D&C that I never had before. "Can I push back a little" and the arguments that come from both sides are so illuminating. 10/10
29:45 Absolutely! I sometimes have received blessings where the Lord uses language and phrases that I use when He is specifically calling my attention to the fact He’s heard me and is answering that particular question in a way that I will complete understand. 😊
I’m really looking forward to a discussion each week between the two of you (Casey and Scott) and I want to hear the controversies but I’m not sure I’m up for an in depth discussion with bantering back and forth to belabor a topic. I want to hear the “bottom line” - what we believe today after 200 years of prophets and apostles making a statement. Thank you so much for your time and expertise along with your background knowledge.
My family has an ancestor that with other townspeople in November of 1805 left the east coast and moved to Ohio. They were seeking Zion. During their last meeting before leaving this ancestor performed a musical number he had written. Too long to add. But his biblical knowledge was amazing. Yet I had a struggle to agree that God would call this abominable. So I asked myself would make this such to our Heavenly Father. The ability to have His children returned to Him could be such that abomination. His power(priesthood) was missing in that beautiful tome.
I love your podcast and am putting it on my suggested resources list for my Gospel Doctrine class this Sunday when I get to introduce the D&C. I’m so excited and have already learned so much!!!
One of the many truth we have that other organized religions don't have is part of the reason that they wonder if The Church Of Jesus Christ Of Latter-day Saints is actually Christian. Our beliefs about The Godhead are not the same - Joseph Smith saw Our Heavenly Father and His Son, they came together. They are not Spirits. This is life Eternal, to know Thee the only true God and Jesus Christ whom Thou has sent. I am grateful to know what we know about them. It isn't as if we are keeping these precious truth to ourselves and looking down on everyonels. It's actually very exciting when people come to know for themselves. 🕊🙏😇🙏🕊 Thank you, I have learned so much. 😊
I agree with both of you. We have more truth than any other people, but we don't have all truth yet. I think it's 100% about authority, however. What does some truth, or all truth, profit us if we have no authority to act in God's name? To know about marriage for all eternity, for example, but be unable to have you and your spouse sealed for eternity, is really no great blessing. Truth of things as they really are, without the accompanying authority, seems like more of a curse to me.
We are the custodian of Truth...because the restoration of the Gift of the Holy Ghost by authorative power gives access to truth in the Past Present and Future while other churches and individuals have access to the promptings of the Holy Ghost which reveals truth but does not have authority to act on that truth that brings eternal life or saving ordinances. ALL prophecy from the Lord will be fulfilled for God cannot lie.
I love what you two are doing. Bringing out the solid truths and the controversies is testimony building for me. The music at the end however, is terribly annoying.
What I from the message of President Nelson saying that the second coming is at if you haven’t begun to prepare it’s to late. I believe that for those that already have received the gospel.
33:03 I think He was referring to the Church not the people…so He’s saying this is the Church organization I acknowledge and have given My power and authority to (or “I am the Head of this Church…it is Mine and the one I authorize” in effect). He’s also saying that He isn’t playing favorites with the people on Earth…all have the opportunity and He wants all and invites all to come to Him. My two cents.
One of reasons the King James Version is used is because there are internal evidences that bring out the truth of both the B OF MORMON and the BIBLE. For instance the chiastic structures, and the repetition done in threes.
47:03 i don’t think you softened 30. I think you gave it a new set of meanings to add to the ones i already have. So not only is it living and true, it’s loyal and loving.
I think "Only True and living Church" should be taken literally otherwise there is no need for a restoration. In the account of the first vision, Christ says his Church is not on the earth. The statement is bold and should not be diluted. I am a converted to the Church and if I didn't take this verse literally, hard as it is, I would not have joined the Church.
If you look up the definition of a Phropet, understood makes this all well received. We are all Phropets when speaking by the inspiration of the Holy Ghost.
“Only true and living” church I have always thought of as two things. “True” as in faithful aka covenantally faithful. All church’s have truth and goodness but only one church has the keys to all the covenants with God. “Living” as in not dead. Meaning that the church still receives revelation from God. We are the only church with authorized leaders with keys to direct the church and receive revelation for the entire kingdom of God on the earth. Just my $.02
With previous Scripture Central years for Come Follow Me lessons, it was always nice to keep the podcasts to 20-35 minutes, so we would have time to watch in one seating. As Scripture Central has grown over the years. So have the podcast offerings. If all the podcasts were the length of yours we ( speaking for myself, but am sure others feel the same) would not have time to listen or watch them all. And, they all bring value, interest and importance in our study of the scriptures. So, can you shorten your podcast to that 30 minute ish length so we can enjoy it. Everyone of Scripture Centrals, and other podcasts have been so helpful in strengthening my understanding, faith, and testimony of the gospel. Help me keep the interest in yours up there with the rest. Can you consider editing the length ? I know you want to say all you can about the topic or Section, but keep in mind, we have many others podcasts, scriptures, lessons to prepare, callings to fulfill, AND families to care for. Thank you for any consideration on this, and keep up the good work. God Bless You both. RR
I love your insightful and informative podcast. Thank you for sharing your testimony and expertise. One favor I'd like to ask, could you change your interlude music? It sounds more appropriate for a jazz lounge or night club, not a gospel discussion. Thanks again!!!
38:51 When referring to interfaith dialogue, I think of John 4:20-24 where the Samaritan woman at Jacob’s well says to Jesus, “Our fathers worshipped in this mountain; and ye say, that in Jerusalem is the place where men ought to worship.” She seems to be asking him, “Who is right - the Jews or the Samaritans?” Listen to Jesus’ response: “Woman, believe me, the hour cometh, when ye shall neither in this mountain, nor yet at Jerusalem, worship the Father. “Ye worship ye know not what: we know what we worship: for salvation is of the Jews. “But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him. “God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.” I think Jesus is giving a two-part answer. The first part is that “salvation is of the Jews” - in other words, the Jews have the correct gospel (at the time). The second part is that God asks us to worship Him in Spirit and in truth, regardless of which group we belong to, and it will be whether we worship God in Spirit and in truth that will matter in the end.
Looks like we might say there are six outcomes instead of five. The sixth being the first being found in the end of 18, to fulfill all that was written by the prophets. I.e. I the Lord told the prophets in the past what was going to happen, and now I am acting to make those things happen.
I was listening on Spotify, but now this episode is missing. There are only 2 episodes currently showing from 2025 Come Follow Me. Any help is appreciated.
Out of the Holiness for the Doctrine and Covenants as the same as the Name of the Church shouldn't we use the full name of the Doctrine and Covenants??
I loved this episode! This is my first time watching and I watched it 3 times. I would like to ask please when quoting someone, could you please give the source in the notes or during the podcast. I take notes and I would love to have that reference. Thank you Thank you!!

“Woman, believe me, the hour cometh, when ye shall neither in this mountain, nor yet at Jerusalem, worship the Father.
“Ye worship ye know not what: we know what we worship: for salvation is of the Jews.
“But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him.
“God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.”
I think Jesus is giving a two-part answer. The first part is that “salvation is of the Jews” - in other words, the Jews have the correct gospel (at the time). The second part is that God asks us to worship Him in Spirit and in truth, regardless of which group we belong to, and it will be whether we worship God in Spirit and in truth that will matter in the end.
:)
God is literally... No respecter of persons.. if He were, He would worry about offending people... and we would be doomed
36:28 true as in loyal and faithful; not just true as in factual. 🤔 wow! 🤯
🙏
Looks like we might say there are six outcomes instead of five. The sixth being the first being found in the end of 18, to fulfill all that was written by the prophets. I.e. I the Lord told the prophets in the past what was going to happen, and now I am acting to make those things happen.
I was listening on Spotify, but now this episode is missing. There are only 2 episodes currently showing from 2025 Come Follow Me.
Any help is appreciated.
Out of the Holiness for the Doctrine and Covenants as the same as the Name of the Church shouldn't we use the full name of the Doctrine and Covenants??
Could you add the source of the quotes you use?
