Sister Wilson, you are a joy!! Your enthusiasm regarding these gospel treasures has sparked my own! Thank you! You and Brother Harper are such gifts to all of us striving to be saints, though we never feel that we entirely live up to the title "saints." Your teachings are helping us to get there!
My wife Marie loves Lynn. She says she brings the scriptures to life for her and that she's not boring. I also love her enthusiasm, and the woman's point of view she brings to the discussions.
Hello from Dubai. I love Sister Lynn's enthusiasm, scholarship and perspectives. She lifts my spirits every time. I do have hearing problems, so I slow down the playback speed. lol I'm looking forward to this year's study with this amazing disciple of Christ and amazing guests. Keep up the good work. Thanking Scripture Central and all who participate to make this podcast available. I'm the only member in my family, so these lively discussions make me feel like part of a larger group and teach me much every week. God bless you all.
Loves this, Thanks Sister Wilson! I hope this series continues, your vast knowledge and enthusiasm is perfect. I was dreading this year of D&C, due to the lack of womens voice, and not really wanting to dig into church history. But your perspectives give me hope that embeded inside is God's voice which can trandencend to inspire me uniquely.😊
I'm so excited to dig deep into these sacred scriptures and it sure brings the spirit into them as i see how excited both you and Brother Harper are to share it. Thank you, Thank you, Thank you for all you do. It's really a blessing to me.
Thank you so much!!! Brother Harper’s spirit is so soothing, calming, and reassuring. My favorite favorite favorite content is during his testimony when he says that Jesus Christ condescended to an anxious teenager who is not flawless, yet Jesus still came to Joseph, and that that is the Jesus that Brother Harper needs. Oh wow. That’s exactly the Jesus Christ that I too need. Thank you for your sweet and grounded spirit.
21:55 kind of spoke to me. We believe in a God who condescends to speak to anxious teenagers and we can receive our own revelation about the revelations. Sometimes we need revelation to understand revelation. There’s no person disqualified from receiving the lord’s revelations by him. We sometimes cut ourselves off, distance ourselves from him but he’s not the one limiting our access to revelation.
I just started reading the D&C and after being tired of Christians and basically everyone talking bad about my faith and all it did is strengthen my testimony, the lord actually revealed each scripture and answer to me demolishing claims online from people like Sam Shamoun and G*dlogic, although I love both of them and look up to them both theyre amazing people
Thank you so much for inspiring me to delve in to these beautiful scriptures and historical lessons this year. You are such a help to me as I prepare for teaching gospel doctrine classes. So grateful for Scripture Central.
I very much enjoyed this lesson and looking forward to the coming year. Thanks for inviting such knowledgeable professors to share their knowledge as well.
I love the tidbits of information that the host gives that I only hear from her such as the Rigdons had 6 children and the Smith's had twins when they moved to the Johnson farm. I wish the male scholars would include these types of facts that give the family dynamics. They bring the story to life more. Of course, Joseph couldn't get anything done! Of course, Emma wasn't present at the hours long meetings. She had babies to care for.
I read through the whole Church canon several years ago and I did find the Doctrine and Commandments the hardest of all 4 to understand. There is some much split information into so many different areas. This year I really near to take it slower and concentrate more so I pray that I will.
Hi Lynne, Loving your work, I just wondering where I can find Steve's research you mentioned - that you can get it every single week throughout the Come, Follow Me year. Would love to read it . THANKS !
They seem to be having natural conversation. The interchange seems fine to me. Breaking into someone's pause is part of good pacing. Lots of journalists do it.
Can’t wait! When everyone gets to Section 132 check out Sister Michelle Stone’s videos showing that Joseph Smith never taught or practiced polygamy. What a blessing to discover vs the the evil speaking that he married children, other men’s wives and then lied about it. He was always faithful to Emma! 🙏
@@kennyjohnson5361 Your reckoning of 'most major prophets of the Old Testament practiced polygamy is false. There was never a consummated polygamous marriage or never any children by Joseph Smith. Wilford Woodruff renounced the polygamous proxy marriages to Brigham Young and Joseph Smith after they died, which was a common practice. There has always been doubt as to the authenticity of the polygamous marriage as contained in Section 132. The original William Clayton 1843 manuscript of Section in 132 was destroyed and rewritten by Joseph Kingsbury in 1886, some 46 years later. The Book of Mormon being the most correct book on earth states " But the word of God burdens me because of your grosser crimes. For behold, thus saith the Lord: This people begin to wax in iniquity; they understand not the scriptures, for they seek to excuse themselves in committing whoredoms, because of the things which were written concerning David, and Solomon his son. Behold, David and Solomon truly had many wives and concubines, which thing was abominable before me, saith the Lord. Jacob 2
The right schedule would be 4 gospels EVERY YEAR along with Holy Week every year pre-Easter and Book of Mormon 2x yearly... OT and D&C and rest of NT can continue on a 3 yr rotation but it's better to give more strong frequent attention to the most core Words of Christ
@ My observation is that a very small percentage of members actually follow the curriculum faithfully to begin with. Those who do, read what they need/desire anyway - such as yourself.
@@bumpercoach As one who is passionate about the Old Testament. I have been thinking some more about your proposal and how we tend to emphasize the books, chapters, & accounts that we (including myself) deem as most valuable. Isn’t it interesting that the Lord tutored Joseph Smith with the words of Malachi, Isaiah and Joel? Even I would not have looked to these verses as first priority. I found a fascinating article on the subject that you might find interesting from the Aug 1998 Ensign Training from the Old Testament: Moroni’s Lessons for a Prophet By W. Jeffrey Marsh
Don't really like being a hater but I'm older now and am cutting out negative energy out of my life. I'm 71yrs old and been a member my entire life. I wish this sister would just be quiet!! I didn't watch this video as soon as she started in, but I've seen her before.... She constantly interrupts. I hope to become more mature in order to listen to teachers that bring their personality with them. Until then, she is valuable To Me only in small doses.
I find reading the transcript helps me to maintain better concentration and to have more time to ponder. However, reading the transcript prevents me from enjoying the visual aids.
@@robincrow6436Lynn Wilson is an LDS biblical scholar. She was my institute teacher in Palo Alto, Ca. when she was finishing her PhD in biblical studies around 2005. She is an bright and faithful LDS women that has a lot to add, because she has devoted much of her life to studying the history of scriptures. She is a Gem! There are so few opportunities to hear LDS women talk in this way, especially about the D&C, which is mostly a book about priesthood and men-only topics. I think the interaction is fine.
It astounds me how much she points to him when she's talking--rude. And how she interrupts him. Interesting lady--I want to hear women teach the gospel, but I don't want to see this rudeness and lack of cultural awareness.
it shouldn't astound you that she is excited about the restored gospel of Jesus Christ, pointing to make a point is acceptable. Because time is limited there is much to say and so little time so at times they will overlap each other in conversation. Sorry there is no rudeness just infectious testimony and as for cultural awareness, its irrelevant as no culture is harmed
Steve Harper is truly amazing! Everything he does is so well done and so interesting.
So good! I love how sister Wilson is so excited about these truths. Thanks for shining light on us!

Great discussion by two of my favorite LDS scholars 👍

It is important to study this in conjunction with the historical reality on the ground to understand the reasons spawning the writings,
The courage and consecration of Joseph Smith and those at the conference came through to me clearly. I hadn't appreciated that before.
I love that we can access these deep dives all year!! Thank you!❤🎉
Thank you!
Want to hear more of HIS thinking!
Could we look at patriarchal blessings as our own personal “commandment” from the Lord? Like our own personal D&C section?
Thx
Love Steven Harper. Love lynn too. But Please let him speak without interrupting!❤
I LOVE her excitement about the gospel. She adds so much to the words of her guests.

Thank you. I wanted to say the same thing.
Tough for me too.
For lots of reasons. Moving to another study group.
Enjoy your enthusiasm however you kept interrupting your guest.

Michelle Stone needs to really study church history. Whether we like polygamy or not, JS did practice it
Michelle Stone does not understand polygamy! Most major prophets of the Old Testament practiced it as a commandment from God.

Naysectiin 132 tells you plainly that Joseph Smith was not required to live the law of Sarah which is polygamy . Read .

we follow the rotation
of recent decades
... to me that requests
an ordering of what's
proportionally important
