Wakfu always hit different just for having such a wildly different combat system to every other MMO. It's also weird to see the anime art style with an obviously original-French dialog text
Europe got really big into using anime art styles and anime inspired themes in fantasy during the 2000s. Totally Spies's another anime art-style French fiction, and Winx Club, W.I.T.C.H., and Angel's Friends from Italy were inspired by a lot of 90s and early 00s magical girl series.
I have loved Wakfu since I first played it. I was always an introvert, so being able to play this without the high anxiety of asking around about guilds or teams was pretty nice for me. Before they changed the landscape, I'd often just roam the server to see all of the beautiful scenery and detail that made up the world. My favorite map was Sufokia back then. There was a harbor infested with all kinds of aquatic monsters, and if you were travelling there on foot, you'd first have to go throught this canyon that hosted tofu and the palm tree mobs! Another beautiful place was the forest in which the miss ugly castle was. There was a waterfall, multiple bridges over little rivers, and the frog mobs were still a thing. Unfortunately, they're now just an event mob.

I used to regularly play this game with a friend of mine, running six man dungeons together with three characters each, via the hero slots you get from subscriptions. I always loved just how involved, difficult and varied the dungeons were, and how many options you had for viable party compositions. We stopped playing due to the recent design shift in class revamps, though. A lot of the classes we used to main were adjusted into directions we didn't enjoy nearly as much, and our main squad of characters wasn't fun to play anymore. Something about the new concept of passives just being net 0 benefit and shifting power around just feels a lot worse than how you could previously empower a certain playstyle, and have these power milestones to look forward to as passives evolve at higher levels. In regards to the pvp complaint though, I don't know if it's just never explained ingame, but a while ago they did add a system called demonic pacts, which basically make it so you get extra loot from any pve content, but cannot use teleporters and can be attacked by anyone in the open world. If you are killed, you lose the extra loot to the killer, but keep anything you would have normally gotten anyway. I never tried it myself though, so I don't know if they are enough people around for it to really work.

The next update 1,81 is going to revamp the into/tutorial stuffs for a better new player experience, And a new mono/single account server without sidekicks is coming out hopefully later this year, right now its the norm for people to multibox / use several accounts for more drops and not having to wait for other people to learn dungeon/boss mechanics etc so hopefully this server can force people to socialize and team up more like you usually do in other mmo's instead of playing everything solo.
So I played the NA beta, when the game came out it was really different from what I can recall. I liked it during the beta but did not really stick around after launch. Maybe I will give it a go again because after it came out it was pay to play iirc
Reason why faction PvP is gone due to 24/7 griefing. Especially high lvl players invade low level area on the enemy nation just to harras them, destroying the ecosystem or downright 'claim' the land so the low level players aren't even able to level up their levels or progress their progression. This made alot of low level players stopped playing, and made the losing nations became a ghost town eventually.
There was a bit more to it than that. For starters, at least on Nox, he who shall not be name didn't harass low level players, nor did any of his guilds top players or closer friends; however, he presented his guild as being the villain organization of the server, so other people who joined did PK new/low level players, and he didn't condemn them for it. A mistake on his part. Then other guilds banned together to KOS everyone from his guild whether they took part in harassing new/low level players or not, this included spawn camping that not even the worst people in his guild did. All while these other guilds acted as if they were justified and different from his guild. There was also a coup in that guild at some point, where the vice guild leader took over while the guild leader was temporarily suspended by SE, for exploiting game mechanics that others were also doing with 0 punishment. Aside from that, the total ecosystem destruction was shut down early, with governor's of the 4 nations able to list resources or species as protected; unfortunately, this backfired and lead to mad kings/queens who spent kama's protecting every species/resource so nobody could do anything without becoming a criminal. And since people were groomed into attacking and PK'ing anyone who was a criminal regardless of reason for why they were such, this lead to more harassment of new/low level players than even the previously referenced guild. What's worse is these made king/queens would also go to war with rest of the nations, so if you tried to level in them, you'd be KOS'd as an enemy of those nations. Personally, I stopped a few months after the Riktus update and didn't keep up from there. So anything on Nox that happened after that I'm unsure of. But I wouldn't put it past the veteran players finding yet another way to drive away new players. Even though the early years of the game were a mess, they made for an amazing social experience, and I don't regret being adjacent to that mess. But I do miss my 10 day, in game jail time, needed to clear my criminal status, and thankfully my nations prison cell wasn't bugged. XD For clarification, I mostly took part in light eco-terrorism, or grinded -cp via action canceling against protected resources. I also sold the resources and seeds cheap to new players leveling crafting profs or who wanted to farm positive cp via planting crops that were in low supply.
Did played the game back in 2012's gold version till 2016, where some changes started to mess with my game experience. I remember my legacy, because I was feared by my own government, and I built a loyal following out of my outlaw reputation in the beta, so people would spread folklore about me in the release, which I used to quickly build our power on live. Because we were such a threat pre-wipe, the government gave me a position of power in the gov as Head Guard to control us, and I used that to police Sufokia with the authority I was given, which gave us power over all the other outlaws in our Nation. lmfaooo, we'd force people to go into PK mode if they wanted to grind in our areas, or we'd KS all the mob spawns from them to drive them out. That way, if they didn't join our team to share exp or did something we didn't like, we could just kill them on sight. Lmfaooo, good goood times. I remember joining the strongest criminal outlaw guild as a spy for a guy called Hooks who dominated PVP; and we had massive influence on political decisions through backdoor deals, all secret until his master plan where he betrayed his faction by allying with another, then took over as Governor of Brakmar after gaining praise from a big war. Omg, the good old days. Bonta had the biggest levelling spot, and they wanted to change the laws to essentially claim the spot for themselves by forming an alliance with the strongest nation at the time, Amakna. Their governor was tainted by his dealings with Hooks, so he had dirt on him, which he used to convince the strongest guild in Amakna (and on the server) not to support their efforts, so when they lured the Bonta governor out to meet and make this deal with the dirty Amakna gov, a massive war broke out to take them out, which turned into a fkn double cross that got the Amakna and Bonta govs stripped of power. The leader of this treasure hunter guild (powerful ones) in Amakna took over (before they were too virtuous to join politics, but saw their nation needed them to lead in this "dire" time, they were by far the strongest guild anyway), and Hooks was no longer hated by his people, he was praised and loved for this massive move (Brakmarian people always hated Bontaians), and used this influence (and other forceful measures) to win his election as leader of Brakmar (side note: Governments and the general public were super against outlaws, crime and gov never mixed, thats why the Amakna gov lost all reputation when his secret deals with Hooks came out, but obv the Brakmar people were more lenient towards criminals). .. Holy crap, I just flew down memory lane there, sorry for the wall of text lmfaoo, I don't remember exactly how it all went down, but I have vivid memories of fighting in the middle of the capital city of Bonta and finally being exposed as a member of Hooks' crew. Love the game and am currently playing it. It’s not super lively but there are players there to support an economy and some guilds. It’s not too hard to find people to play with (I think, I’m not the type to play with others)
Well, if you really want, you can buy a hero booster, which lets you play with 3 characters from your account, so you can kinda build a team by yourself. You keep all the drops and kamas from these characters too, pretty handy

what i hate about this game is the fact that you cant play this game with a single character..you always need a team
Dude,is an mmo,what do u expect?
Well, if you really want, you can buy a hero booster, which lets you play with 3 characters from your account, so you can kinda build a team by yourself. You keep all the drops and kamas from these characters too, pretty handy
Great video showing Wakfu.
A shame they changed the PvP so much. I personally quit before that, but right after they killed the criminal system.
huh, I guess iv been saying Wack-Fu and Doh-fus wrong this whole time.
i quit after i didn't play for 2 months on a school break back in the days, and somehow cheaters stole mine and clan member's pets and such.. the admins said they can't do anything even support so we quit lol... i hope things got better, only way i would return tto wakfu is if wakfu would have a legacy server where it starts from point 0
Think they just released a server that is fresh start honestly.
Great video!!
Thanks for checking it out!
I feel for rogue gameplay
Good vid!
No

I worry it will be too much grinding. Maybe it won't be worth my time compared to Tactics Ogre or other paid games.
With Wakfu at least it’s multiplayer so you can play with friends but Tactics Ogre is indeed a great game. 😃
you got about as many likes as people who play on steam.
You legit ain’t wrong.
Get serious about no playing, its too good and unhealthy to players. I mean with heart that you shouldnt.
bro is saying walkfu not wak fu
Waven feels and plays like a direct downgrade from wakfu
Literally no character costumization (LITERALLY NOT EVEN COLOR COSTUMIZATION, WHY)
Worst combat
Just boring overral
Really a shame
I think the combat is slightly better but will definitely agree on customizing the look of your character. It’s all behind the cash shop, my video on Waven should be coming out Monday.
Holy shit, you’re mispronouncing. This is driving me fucking nuts😵💫
