David, May I suggest… Thread 2 needles on every piece of floss before starting to work on the block. Prepare ahead of time how many you need for a block. In that way you don’t interrupt yourself to get the needle out and thread it back on for every intersection.
I think the idea is to go in from the front each time. Then you are baby on the spot. I have only just seen this but I'm definitely going to try. It makes so much sense!

Dave, I have been using this useful method. I simply put the needle through the one on top and the one on the bottom, without rethreading.
