My teacher Dr. Ursula Greville debuted with Fritz Kreisler in London. She was 16 and had been blessed with a fabulous operatic voice. I knew her in the last decade of her life, when she was in her 90's, and she still had that deep, resonant voice and a great love of music.
Kreisler was born in Vienna to a Jewish father and a Protestant mother. He was baptised Christian at age twelve, but converted to Catholicism in the United States, and was a personal friend of Bishop Fulton J. Sheen.

This is an arrangement by Kreisler, so this is certainly the authentic version. Kreisler's playing was in every way more humble than Heifetz's, who tended to be more flashy. It is a violin solo intended as an encore piece, so in this sense it is unashamedly "overt".

Frank, Kreisler's playing was more "humble" because he subjugated his technical prowess to the requirements of the music. He had technique to burn, but you would never know it until he did something big like the Brahms concerto, and even then the music ruled.

Sadly, I notice the Classical radio stations don't play enough Kreisler.

I wonder by which bow he played from down to up, or from up to down?????that's so mysterious. metaphysical tone might have been searched after at beginning of early 20 century.(91yrs.Japanese) nowadays there are so many accordion sound here and there in the bow string instrument world. that's my opinion. sssooorrryyyy strange English. anyway I would love to listen to early 20 cent. sound very very much.

Dear Music Lovers , please Don't make this clip a battle field . Lets enjoy and learn maestro's message . Kreisler and Kreislers belong to human race , they always were fed up with extremists and had to pay for them .

It is terrible the even to beautiful playing of great artist who had nothing to do with the political situation in the world gets tied into the ongoing hatred the human race is so capable of by some of these commentaries on you tube. From what I've read about Kriesler he wasn't even particularly religious, or political.
