Honestly the show ends at a perfect place and really shouldn't have tried to continue after that point. The OVA was so unengaging bc that hook was missing, and yeah what I saw of the manga isn't much of a satisfying end either, but the end of the TV series was as good as you can make it. I've been meaning to make a video about Hikaru no Go, but along with Chihayafuru, Akagi and 3Gatsu, all of which play complicated Japanese games that I can't exactly follow but all the same are extremely immersive, told with different approaches.

I also heard that same opinion where people like the anime ending better and that the manga kinda just extends it when it doesn’t need to. But yeah, like I said in the video, the show doesn’t do a great job explaining where as chihayafuru I feel like does, but then again, I’ve seen it 3 times.
