    I gotta admit I don't use my paddle shifters that much on my xt but it's pretty great in the winter when going up or down a icy hill. I get to hold a "gear" without having to use my brakes, reducing slipping.

    It's great control.. downshift been the masters technique for ages.
    Also you don't need to move the shifter to enable
    Just paddle down... Then to up shift
    I use the shifter... Over to manual, back to drive.
    The car sorts out which gear to be

    Bought my Crosstrek in March, never used the paddle shifters until last week. I was descending Mt. Washington and the paddle shifters worked brilliantly. But I did notice the engine rev’ed over 4000rpm in spots which I never hit during normal driving.

    Great feature. I use most to slow down so brakes get used less. I do wonder if down shift has any long term wear on transmission.

    I would rather just be able to set the (Simulated) top gear (I believe Ford calls it gear lockout). As i only use it for down hill. But when cornering, You can easily loose track of witch side the padle is on. I would prefer the button on the shifter for that reason.

I wouldn't want to take the chance of wrecking something because of a little detail. So just keep your foot on the gas? that doesn't make sense if you are shifting down. It would make more sense to take your foot off the gas then downshift and use the paddle to slow down instead of the brake especially in icy conditions. And shifting up I would think you just keep your foot on the gas. Right? or wrong?

      Frame rate that is being used to film vs the frequency of the lighting causes the blinking. Just like the rotational rate of helicopter blades combined with certain frame rates can make a helicopter look like it is flying without the blades moving at all. Pretty crazy stuff.

      Not sure if that was a real question, but his example was descending a mountain. In that scenario, overheating your brakes resulting in break failure is a real possibility. Using a higher gear in conjunction with your breaks is recommended.

      @unsmoothOperator Рік тому +5

      It's not that you are putting extra wear on the transmission, that's actually a part of its job. And it's safer to engine brake in some cases rather than just using the brakes.

      Most trucks with a "tow package" that when engaged will have the vehicle downshift to aid in braking.
      And any automatic vehicle will automatically downshift if you are not using the accelerator or brakes. It really does no harm. The only time it really could would be if it were a true manual transmission and you skipped a gear or two on the downshift.

    Ok I’ve got to say something here.
    I owned a 2011 Rav 4WD Limited with a 269hp 3.5 V6 engine and a 5spd geared automatic transmission. I got 28mpg on the highway with the cruise set on 75mph.
    I sold it to buy a 182hp 4cyl Subaru Forester Touring that Subaru LIED about with the CVT to get better fuel economy. I now get ONLY 25mpg on the highway with the cruise set on 75mph with the CVT.
    Going from a 269hp V6 to a 182hp 4banger with a CVT was the BIGGEST MISTAKE OF MY LIFE.
    My old Rav would flat out get up and go, whereas my Forester is sluggish in comparison with LOWER FUEL ECONOMY.
    The CVT SUCKS the engine of hp, mpg and fuel economy, so SCREW the LIES from Subaru!!!!!!!!!!

    • @ais312
      @ais312 11 місяців тому

      Going 75 in any vehicle isn't going to get great mpg - ram's go up too much. You're also comparing apples to orange- V6 to 4 cylinder. You've got to expect differences, no matter what you're told.

    • @Doc1855
      @Doc1855 11 місяців тому

      @@ais312 With my old Rav with the 3.5 V6 at 75mph and the RPMs at 2K and the Forester with the 2.5 4 cyl runs at 1800 RPMs at 75mph.
      So the Forester is One liter Smaller at 2.5L than the Rav at 3.5L
      The Forester has 182hp and the Rav had 269hp.
      Therefore when a V6 is running at 2K RPM and a 4 cyl is running at 1,800 RPM, then it should get BETTER fuel economy than the Rav.
      But the CVT robs the engine of hp, torque and mpg.
      Going from 28mpg to 25mpg and loosing 87 hp tells me that Subaru lies as much as Biden thinking that inflation is lower since he’s been in office.
      Subaru LIED and ASAP, I’m getting rid of my Forester and going back to Toyota !
