It’s so relaxing when you actually get into it! It really only gets stressful when you keep putting it off and the list of plants to repot gets really long haha.
U actually do not need to change soil yearly at all. Of u add fertilizer when u water, or worm castings, u don't need to change soil until the roots have filled the entire pot and the soil is almost completely gone. U could have made ur life easier and waited many more years before repotting these plants lol. U can add nutrition to the soil. Plus the soil looked fine on ur plants. The Hoya was super bound because the soil was so dry. If u had wet it, it would have came apart easily. U r stressing these plants for no reason! Unless roots r literally growing from the holes, or filled the pot up completely, they don't need repotted :( hope this helps!!
I haven’t fertilized my plants much so that’s why I needed to change out the soil. I don’t currently use worm castings and that sort of stuff. Of course if you add nutrients back into the soil then you can keep the same soil for much longer than a year. However I was not adding nutrients in (nor do I have the materials needed to add nutrients in) so I needed to change the soil. And the Hoya soil was so dry and compact that it was easier to change the soil. It would’ve taken much more effort to try to aerate the soil and make it hold water the way it should
I think all these plants are ‘hardy’ enough to handle the repot, personally. Your point on fertilizing is true but new soil shouldn’t stress these bad ass plants out , if anything they will thrive even more. Thanks for making great videos for us Petite plant. :)
I would not break the root ball unless roots are rotting or have pest problems..... i would just change the pot up and add the plant to extra fresh soil with the old one without touching the roots..... all plants love to stay root bound.
You could always twist the wines of the Golden back over the top soil and pin them down. I like to do that when I can as it's faster than propagating and you instantly get a fuller pot.
I’ve done that with some of my other pothos! This one had some weird arial roots that had dug into the soil so it was a bit funky to mess with haha. Definitely love that method for a quick prop though!
It’s so stressful and for what? I’m currently trying to rehab a string of spades I rescued from a nursery but it still is not looking too hot haha good luck!
Ugh yes hahaha I put it off for wayyyy too long. Luckily in Texas we have a bit bigger of a window for warm weather so these plants should be just fine:)
I repotted and untangled an insanely long 6" SOH. It took a LONG time! Seems like most people just buy a string of hearts and they just leave it in the container and never change the soil so it was all hard and crusty. I tried the butterfly population method in Moss and it definitely did not turn out like Harli G's unfortunately. It did work but it was not like a full container where you could hardly even see the the moss.
@@thepetiteplant yes I was so excited that I thought I would have like an entire tupperware container that was full and you would just transplant that whole thing to a pot but mine did not look anything like hers LOL and I feel like I did a lot of pieces!! It's okay I ended up making a small one and I gave it to a friend lol. I'm sure you're SOH really appreciated the fresh soil and the detangling. I have kept mine in a west facing area where the window has a privacy screen on it so it wasn't too harsh and the backs of the leaves turned a really pretty purple and keeps on flowering! Oh and PS I'm not sure how you feel about plant roots but I'm partial to trimming roots especially if they're so so long ☺️ thanks for the repotting video! Excited to see how you like semi Hydro. I have nearly all my plants in LECA and I love it.
I like my plants being a bit rootbound! I’ve noticed if I move to bigger pots too soon I tend to overwater because the plant will stay wet longer. So it’s really just what I’ve found works for me!
I actually really like repotting. Especially if I have a new pot. I get kinda proud of myself a plant lasted long enough to need a repot lol.

Yes! I also give the plant a prep talk while repotting, encouraging it to keep living lol💚
@@thepetiteplant very true then it becomes overwhelming with all the other plant chores or just life in general.
@@KelliesHoya lol a pep talk never hurts. I find myself humming something random if I'm not watching UA-cam plant videos.
I love your plant chores videos, it's so relaxing to watch!
Thank you!

your stress with the string of hearts repotting is such a mood lol i have to up-pot my SoH and string of spades and i really don't want to do it

Just a thought. Shouldn’t repotting done in spring growing season. In nyc, it is October, I don’t repot. Thanks for video.

Your Obovata is so lush! Do you use fertilizer when you water?
I don’t! I bought it quite lush though. I really should fertilize more but I haven’t found one I loved yet

It takes ages to untangle them hahaha. Man I can only hope to someday have propagations as successful as harli g lol

I have so many plants to up pot and not looking forward to it.
I literally have been putting off so many repots but now I’m trying to get it all done before winter hits!
