The guy that said "that's just economics and the opposition couldn't stand the competition" doesn't understand what democracy is. The UK electoral system isn't perfect and could do with some reform. We have a weird system of an unelected House of Lords (second house) and first past the post vote instead of proportional representation. The UK is many, many times more democratic than Russia. I visited Russia in the year 2000 with college and Putin was in power. In that time we've had Tony Blair, Gordon Brown, David Cameron, Theresa May, Boris Johnson and in September we will have a new leader. Russia has had one leader. That isn't how competition works.

If it seems strange that I am commenting not on the question that was voiced, then the strange thinking is clearly not mine. Want to talk about the topic you asked? About freedom and a gift? Ok, let's. What is an example of a country that did not use any means other than its own people to achieve freedom? + an example of a country where in only one 20th century it was destroyed: 1. 50 million people in several wars, 2. about 6 million repressions 3. where 3 revolutions took place in succession in 15 years, which did not lead to the correct results with losses of about 10 million? (by the way, for these three reasons, the most promising gene pool was actively destroyed. Russia is a country of women, have you ever heard of this?) + an example of a country that has been ignored by a human rights court for 30 years (and not only this organization, but others as well), because he does not want to cover the problems of the state-exporter of resources, so as not to quarrel with its president? + the country became free, because the people wanted it that way, and the empire / union did not collapse / did it become difficult to contain the colonies? This time. Territorial dispersion, from this there is no cohesion of the people. Russia is not a little Poland or the Czech Republic. The people themselves are abandoned - and this is a problem. This is two. Well, let's at least dwell on this) By the way, only China is suitable for all this according to the criteria, but maybe you can name someone else, I may be off topic. Freedom, of course, does not come as a gift. But there are reasons why people, destroyed by life, spit on freedom. I do not justify the Russians from the point of view that they are energetic in politics, moreover, I hate and despise them for it. But the fact that they want some peace without barricades is understandable. Of course, they still have to face the consequences, but they are now trying not to think about it.

If that ever changes, if a new mindset takes root among more than just a large minority (slim majority?) of the young living in the largest cities, I'll be amazed. Ecstatically amazed.

I mean, its not like they go after the people directly but you do not want to be around Putin's men talking about such stuff. You know...he is Russia's president years now for a reason. There is a reason he is a meme, there is a lot of fanatism mixed in here, does that mean this is dictatorship? It is understandable to assume and think so but the majority of people do not care as you can see. They technically aprove it because otherwise they could had revolted and threw him out years ago. But his rule is ideal for them, those who think otherwise are basically a minority at this point, or they seem like one. Russian people are very vocal and active about politics, there is also a reason they had so many revolutions throughout their history second only to the French. They are not idiots to just tolerate someone they do not like. Russia of all countries have a really big strength of character. You can not bend them easily. Nazi's couldn't even by force, who are you to do so and indirectly promote propagandistic ideas?
If Russia was such a dystopia then they would had been reacting, its not like they need a Westerners's help to do so.
Do not mess with the bear. We shouldn't be caring about this entire Ukraine-Russia war in the first place.
Its their war let them sort it out. Sure send humanitarian support and all that but no weapons on either side. Why weapons? Once you do its technically an indirect declaration of war on the opposing side.

There are a number of legal theories as to how to approach constitututional interpretation: plain language, original intent, textualism, historicism . . . all are somewhat valid. I'd humbly suggest the best view is to see the idea of that amendment was to give individual citizens the right to weapons, a limited right because ALL rights are limited rights, but the unfettered access to assault weapons and so forth that we have in many US states now is a pretty obvious overstatement of those rights. As to overthrowing the government, that's a nice mythology for American independence but I'm not sure I buy the theory that in 2022, the US will solve its political problems by massacring one another. You really think that? Just offering my humble view.
