I was out there in "Buttercup Valley" to watch Boba go into the Sarlaac, and we saw Carrie on the deck. Mark came to the fence to talk to us for over an hour. Nicest guy ever! They has a copter with a camera ball mount for the flying scenes.
The Sarlacc Pit CG looks bad, but that's not the only problem. The original Sarlacc was cool because it was a giant mouth opening in the sand that you could fall into. It was subtle and understated and natural. They changed it into a big dumb venus fly trap creature coming out of the hole, to try to amp up the action and make the threat more flashy and obvious. But that ruined the design of the Sarlacc, because it wasn't supposed to be "Oooh look, obvious monster coming out of hole." They've cheapened everything.
There was a sort of unknown, primal fear attached to the original sarlacc pit. The idea of falling into a pit, except the pit is actually alive, is pretty terrifying. You also can only really imagine what it truly 'looks' like, as you can only see its gaping mouth. The new cgi version undercuts that by essentially 'showing' you the monster. The more you can see, the more you understand, and the less terrifying it is. Seeing a weird (and poorly animated) plant thing come out of of the pit just feels like any other monster. Also I've always wondered what would happen if the cgi mouth missed someone, and they just kinda, fell to the side of it. Would that be like getting a piece of food stuck in your teeth for the sarlacc?
Guys what r u talkin? The mouth was added by Disney/ fox / George This other versions here is literally are the theatrical cuts before the mouth was added long before that yk? It’s not after it it’s mean to show before that the years before that it was added That’s the point of those versions it’s not after it or „ not used“ later
I agree, but to be honest all the cgi aged very poorly in the special editions imo. They were already looking mediocre at best when they first came out. I remember being very disappointed when i first saw the special editions in theatre, i couldnt believe how bad they looked when a movie like Jurassic Park came out a few years earlier and it had cgi that looked 10 times better than this! And since George “the asshole” Lucas was refusing to release the original unaltered versions, i was stuck with the crappy special editions. I hate them so much that i literally couldnt watch them at all, so i was stuck with my old VHS cassettes with the original versions on them, and a few years later i was able to watch the GOUT that came out on dvd, which was very bad quality wise. So believe me the Harmy’s unaltered trilogy was a dream come true for me, its the best thing that ever happened to me as a Star Wars fan!! They are exactly like they were when i first watch them in 77, 80 and 83, nothing can beat that imo! And now i cant wait for the 4k versions, its going to be amazing! :)
@@DanielLopez-zt4ig My guess is he insists that the newer versions are most canon. But, that's kind of hard to fix out, even in your own movies, because each scene took so much time it should've been thought over in the first place... either that or it was much easier to create 4K of later versions AKA laziness.

And since nothing beats or even come close to the original unaltered trilogy for me, i can only imagine how insanely beautiful they will look in true 4k, i cant fucking wait!!!!!
The difference is HUGE! The picture quality is far superior on the 4k83, its very very obvious! I own every versions of the trilogy, I watch them on my 65” 4k tv and the difference is huge. The 4k77 and 4k83 versions are incredibly beautiful, and as much as I love the Despecialized editions, it just can’t compete with the 4k77 and 4k83 versions, the difference is that big. I guess that you have to watch it on a big screen to really appreciate the difference, because watching this on a iPhone or iPad is ridiculous, you wont be able to see any difference on a small screen.
I’ve looked at clips of a few of the nine Star Wars movies in 4K Ultra HD, and to me, the picture quality looks... too dark for me. So no, if you wanna see the original Star Wars Trilogy in a high definition format, I highly recommend the Despecialized Editions. And don’t forget, Han Solo shot first.
@@patrickwilson1459 Like I said before, I have every versions of the trilogy, and the official 4k released the trilogy is pure crap imo, while the 4k77 and 4k83 versions are works of art! Harmy has done some incredible work! 4K83 looks great and I'd like to say that it is exactly how I remember it in the theater, but I was 10 and I'm colorblind :) All I remember from the theater is my aunt reading the subtitles to my cousin :)
There’s subtle color changes in the Special Editions that are better than the original 88 film, but then there’s other colors in other scenes that look better in the original film. I wish an ultimate edition with only the GOOD improvements from the Special Editions (improved CGI effects like the X-Wings, Death Star blowing up, good color improvements, etc), but no of the useless CGI (A rock added to cover R2, that long necked animal crossing in Tattooine, and other things) existed.
@@redfive1300 Not to mention, the "subtle colour changes" are simply down to the transfer at the the time. As the point of this comparison video clearly shows - the left 2 are special edition derived and the right 2 are from an 83 print. All are different, due to the grading/colour timing. FYI, the 97 death star explosion is definitely NOT an improvement. Every special edition change was worse, with the possible exception of a few death star battle shots.
it would be impossibly cool if on disney+ you could pick and add scenes (from both the theatrical and special edition releases) so you could essentially create your own definitive version of the films but something like that will never happen unfortunately :(
Despecialized is still the best one. 4K83 is superbly sharper, but at times overexposed. But honestly, thanks God these great people did all this work!
I notices some differences in in the faces, at the beginning Han's face looked more detailed in v1.2.2, and a little more smoothed out in v1.3, but not any more so than either of the other version presented, so I'd put it up to personal preference.
