Hey ralfi, I just wanted to let you know that this is imo the best DCS tutorial series i have come across so far and it made the A-10 my fav aircraft at the moment. Thanks for that and please keep up the great work.
2 years later, and still this is the best tutorials available for any flight simulator platform. The effort put into this is just beyond anything I can do. Thank you for doing that and making our lives easier to learn the hog
I've been flying the A10 for years and thought I would check this out to see your style, which I'm glade I did. The circle cross in the Hud I always thought it was just where the MAV was looking, and did not know you could lock from it nice. Also I never new that by pressing a MFD button and holding it you could assign another page i.e.. MAV to it very nice. Your knowledge of the A10 is off the charts which is why I keep coming back thanks!
I'm sad this playlist is coming to an end for me... There are simply no other DCS guides that are this comprehensive, thoughtfully constructed, and so elegantly presented. Would love if you could do the F-18 for Supercarrier cold start the same way but I realize that's a big ask. You should drop your 'Buy me a coffee' link in the description - I'll look for it to see if you have one that I missed but thanks again for the time and effort you put into this playlist. Because of you I'm having a blast on DCS in only a couple short weeks despite thinking I'd practically need to be a pilot to learn. You're the man!
Hello ladies, I'm a latecomer to dcs. Got many thousands of hours in many sims (eg. A10 Cuba! :D), some IRL too, but sorting out A10C-s new systems isn't very easy. The best route now seems to be ralfis tutorials. Seen some. Trust me ^^ Comprehensive, practical, deals with most issues. Thanks for the time and effort, gj.
Rafi - This is absolutely the best Maverick tutorial I have seen (and I have seen quite a number). Your explanation of markpoints and efficient use of TGP is excellent. This is a must see video for any budding Hog pilot. Thanks!
This playlist is what I should have seen at the beginning of my A-10C adventure years ago. I really appreciate the fact that you are not only showing the systems but you also focus on their quirks, unexpected errors, workarounds, real-life scenarios. It's a gem, thank you!
This is defintely what I needed to see...I was getting crazy! THE KEY WAS THE tms down long TO CANCEL THE SPIES.. my mavs kept on locking to the main mission STRPT/SPI (even if the TGP was currently perfectly locked to the targets) resulting always in hits bout 20\40mts from the targets!
Dude! I gotta give you credit. I fly helicopters for a living, and purchased the Apache on pre-order. BUT I am now purchasing the a-10 BECAUSE of your videos. I honestly was not going to try it due to the learning curve… but.. I jumped in it, watched a couple of your videos and POOF! I understand it and am having fun learning it! GREAT TEACHING SKILLS! Keep it up ! Again THANK YOU
Thx again, i was trying to find out some of that on my own for two weeks... managed to get the hang a little. These series help me to really understand well. 5-21-2022 i bougt DCS, and allready i kill bad guys thanks to you.
Only use I can think of for the laser Mavs is JTAC lasing. I remember a few missions in the hornet where the jtacs would lase a Mav in from the ground. Haven’t been in that situation in the A10 though. Awesome tutorials, they are a lifesaver, this is the fastest and most thoroughly I’ve learned a module yet
Dude, never thought I could learn the A-10C II in one night, but here I am! There may be some updates that mean command changwa (like how to select the HMCS as SOI now being a little different), but that is totally fine.. I reckon I am about 80% there! Thank you soo much for these videos! Brrrrrrt
Great video! I learn so much from you. It is sometimes very frustrating when you make the tenth attempt and something does not work. Your help makes DCS really fun again.
There is a lot of great information here. I’m currently moving to the A-10 II from F-18, to try to get this plane under my belt. I’m getting better but your videos help cut through the bs. Thanks.
Great video! The laser mavericks may be useful if you have a cluttered target as IR mavs can sometimes switch targets whereas the laser mavericks won't do that. It is a niche use, but it's there. I use the Ds all the time as well though.
Hey ralfidude, I've just watched everything upto this and have been practicing as I go, just wanted to say thanks for this super informative, fun, easy to follow series and for all the work it must have taken to create, it's really helped me get properly into the A10C in DCS as it's way more fun to watch your vids than spend days reading the manual! Thanks :)
Great explanation video. Just like your previous videos, the step-by-step walk thru for each weapon/system is highly effective for me since it allows me to “chair fly” in prep for actual usage. 👍
Great tutorial! the advantage that I see for the laser is if you fire at a target that is destroyed after you fired the maverick, you can point it to a close target that is still alive. happens to me on 4ya servers
You are a GOD! I just started learning the A-10C II only two days ago and have discovered your videos yesterday. Last night I tried the Mavericks and failed. I'm doing a bunch of reading on how to use them and this poped up! THANK YOU! Edit: I failed exactly as you described. I was slaving the Mavs to my TGP but not pressing TMS up to lock. Thank you thank you!
Glad you are expanding on this series!! I am still stuck on episode 4 but I hope you are covering how to release multiple JDAMs in one pass in the JDAM vid :D
Awesome lesson! I actually figured out using the TGP and Mavericks last night (everything is easier with the TM Warthog now) but I was super slow compared to this and only loaded 2 of the heavier Ks not knowing the difference. Will load on 6 Ds and have another go at some of these rapid fire tricks.
I was always under the impression that "Force Correlate" was used when you required the weapon to hit a "Specific" point, i.e. a specific bridge support etc NOT to increase the range of the missile.
Brotherman I spewed my cola up everywhere you were talking about how useless the auto slew is. I literally just accepted the training tutorial at face value and would do that thinking that the Mav would auto slew to my SPI which was already on my target , getting into rifling position and squeeze... Only to hit a bunch of trees. "It's fucking worthless"!
"Mavericks are designated as AGM... but that doesn't mean we can't use them for air to air!" 😁😁😁 I swear I heard Ralfi saying these words, somewhere inside my head...
OMFG I wish I would've re-watched this video before I went on the PVE server I was just on earlier! I forgot how to use/fire MAVs lol...This video would've saved my ass from getting shot out for getting too close to the air base I was attacking!
I got a question. How are you able to actually see those targets with the IR Mavs. I've been messing with these things and vehicles seem to be dam near invisible. I can find them easy enough with the targeting pod in IR, but when I slave the seeker, I can't see shit. I'm lucky if it can spot and lock something up before I cross the min range mark.
laser mavs are good for situations where you want to keep weight down and/or just not have to fuck with a tgp, and have someone else like a jtac or something marking targets for you. theres uses for it. theyre also pretty easy to use. compared to playing piccolo with your hotas trying to finger bang every key bind you have to fire a couple agm's

Hi ralf, awesome guides btw! I'm learning the A10-II thanks to you! Just a question: a friend of mine said that with JTAC you could have laser paintings from units on the ground in theory (or maybe from other A10s?). So my question is if the Laser guided Maverick (and other laser weapons) is capable to tune in to that laser code and track itself so it gets actually F&F and might be useful for that purpose. Thanks! and keep them guides coming. Love them!
Yes, but all the other mavericks are already fire and forget. Plus you'd still have to fire at the same range as all the other mavs. It's really not that useful of a mav.
First off - amazing tutorial. Thanks! Secondly - why the why doesn’t the maverick jump to say mark point B when you select it? The TGP does, but not the Mavericks. It would make rapid-firing on mark-points just so much quicker … now you have to slave for each mark point while your TGP just jumps to the next one like the obedient little slave I need. Any fix / workaround or do I have to unfuck my frustration and just accept it’s a crappy design that doesn’t allow me to fire as quickly as I want?
really good ! - why do I see some videos (& my memory of this) with MAV screen on the right and the weapons list on the left. The MAV button appears on the right hand screen . I dont have that hmmm.
Hi Ralfidude. Thanks for the brilliant videos that you create. I have been particulary interested in the A-10C II series of videos al I am just getting to grips with the A-10. I have created myself a small mission to intercept and destroy a moving convoy. The convoy is protected by a couple of Shilka's that, until now, hav ebeen on weapons hold. Now I am getting to grips with the Mavericks they will be able to fight back, BUT, the convoy is moving. I don't know if it's possible but can I set Mark Points on moving targets or will the mark point be dropped if the target is obscured. From my understanding of your videos, I suspect the latter (I've tried but I might just be doing it wrong). Can you confirm that the only way to use a maverick on a moving target is to designate the target, make it SOI, and keep it as SOI until the Maverick has been fired. There doesn't seem to be many UA-cam tutorials on attacking moving targets so perhaps you could find time to add a short video to your A-10C Warthog series? Thanks again for the work you do, I enjoy all of your videos on all subjects.
As far as Mark points go, they are like pins on a map. So not for moving targets, just designating a point on the ground, that's all. With the maverick you have to switch to it, SOI, to be able to press tms up short to tell the maverick to lock whatever is in the crosshairs, then weapon fire when in range. Moving targets aren't really a problem if you use your tgp to do it. Remember that the tgp has POINT mode, where if you move the tgp over the moving target in that mode it will snap to that moving target and track it even when it's moving as long as nothing obacures the tgp vision. So at that point make the tgp your SPI with TMS up long, then using China hat forward long you slave all sensors to the the SPI, which is currently your tgp, which will slave the maverick to look at the tgp that's currently tracking the moving target. Now all you do is switch to the maverick by making it SOI and then spam tms up short till the maverick sees the target and weapon fire. Easy peasy.
@@ralfidude Perfect, thanks for clarifying. My understanding of your maverick video was correct in that you cannot 'mark' multiple moving targets. I just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing a trick 👍😀
I had the problem that my SPI is on my TGP (as shown in the HUD with TGP) and when I slew all my sensors (Maverick) to the SPI (TGP) it slew back to the steerpoint. Any idea what could be the problem?
Hey man love the vid! Thanks alot, its just one question, I have the TM Warthog HOTAS, how the fk do you lock shit up with the maverick. What button do you bind it to?
Hey ralfi, newb in dcs here but going 200hrs strong. Been practicing this on some tanks for a while now and I've realized that it's either a bug or my mavericks are killing each other. If I place 3 tanks in a triangle and attack them from the side, the bottom 2 mavericks impact might kill each other mid air if I am too quick on the firing, I am on beta though so I dunno, but if I wait a bit when firing at targets that are in close proximity, I get a guaranteed kill. If I fire frontal or from the back it also happened a few times if I was quick on the acquiring, watched a few replays, the locks were good and the keyholes were good and spi points have been switched each time before firing, so on paper everything looks good. But still maybe I'm doing something wrong, any idea or is it just the trajectory overlapping? Thanks for the great and detailed tutorials, have a great day! EDIT I've also had 2 mavericks hit dead on causing 0 dmg
I see these videos and I wonder if you guys are using third party textures. I have a 3090ti and even on maximum settings I don't get even close to some of these streamers with the terrain textures. I do have a 1080p monitor, so that makes a bit of a difference, but not as much as what I'm seeing. Also, this an awesome set of tutorials that competes with the Grim Reapers videos in terms of content and quality.
Question (possible error?): At 18:30, you demonstrate how to take out the anti aircraft priority targets. And while demonstrating the "manual" way, at 18:58 and again at 19:12, you say, "TMS Up Long to lock it". Shouldn't this be TMS Up short both times (or wiggle the slew)? And TMS Up Long would set the SPI to wherever the maverick is looking? I'm having a hell of a time with mavericks, so I'm not at all sure if I'm right.
@@ralfidude no doubt and I don't blame you. I just wanted to make sure I wasn't mistaken! And thanks for all the videos. Super helpful. I'm still overwhelmed but I'm getting there!
Very nice. Question how can you tell friendly vs foe other than f10 map. Is there a way using the lightly pod to tell friendly? Also would the same for F-18

I'm having a hell of a time with mavericks, so I'm not at all sure if I'm right.
ya it's TMS up short, when you have so many acronyms and you do it on the fly you sometimes mispeak
You have to recognize units. Opfor vs bluefor.
No idea if you'll actually see this but I am hard of hearing and this is the first video of yours I have come across without closed captions, would it be possible for you to turn them on?
hmm, i'll look into it, but I never turned it off
Been flying for years now and you are always my go to teacher. Now, how do I get my VCR to stop flashing 12:00 Jk
Thanks
❤️
only way to use the 65H is to glide them in 15+ miles out into sam sites with force correlate ( but where is the fun in that ).
7:45
I believe it is called 'quick-draw'.
Thanks!
Thank you for your support!
@@ralfidude there will be more to come. The A-10 Tutorial series is amazing. What a great learning series
12:35 such a casual war crime haha
still can't get the tgp to with mavs rip
Early squad
Is this the last one? They all helped btw!
How can i lock up with the targeting pod following a moving tank in the point lock mode?
look through the TGP lesson, explains it well there.
Huh... I wonder why the mavs only have a 5 mile range on the F-16. The weapon tv display also looks way worse in the 16.
