This is The News At One From ITN with Robert Kee . When my dog heard this she knew my dad was coming home for his lunch on his bike. Long ago and all gone
I have a few tapes of News At One with leonard Parkin , but unfortunately they are are on Betamax one with Stuart Hall when he read items with Bob Greaves ......must dig them out
That was a really bad mistake. I mean, you're one of the country's finest journalists, reporting on the death of shipbuilding on the Wear, from a location literally on the banks of the Wear, and you can't even get the name right. And they wonder why North Easterners thought London didn't give a monkey's about the North...
Leonard Parkin must have come back for his 2nd spell here. Peter Sissons was ready to go to Channel 4 News in a month from there. I remember watching either Peter Sissons or Leonard Parkin whenever I came back from playgroup for lunch. Leonard Parkin a true professional would religiously greet you with Hello Good Afternoon. Also made the point of welcoming the younger viewers. Hilarious when he said Sunderland was on Wearside not Tyneside 😂😂😂. Also this was my favourite ITN theme from my childhood
Leonard Parkin must have hosted the ITN News At One instead of the News at 545 while Peter Sissons was on holiday, and became the full time host when Peter Sissons moved to the Channel 4 News in November 1982. I think Michael Nicholson replaced Leonard Parkin as full time host of the News at 545 when Leonard Parkin became full time host on the News at One.
@@grahampearson5670From 1978 until 1982, Leonard Parkin was presenting the News at 5:45 in the evenings, but returned to News at One at the end of quite a long stint there. He also made one or two appearances back on News at Ten.
Leonard Parkin was sometimes the host of News At One when Peter Sissons was on holiday, and somebody else covered for Leonard Parking when he was doing the News at One or was on holiday.
It was virtually the same opening titles and music. However News at One would get a brand new set of opening titles in 1983 with the globe of the earth being their opening titles, along with the exact same music.
Its mad to think the News At One is more or less next door or by here now,as News At Ten,only difference is the desk that Leonard Parking is reading the news now.
@@johnking5174 I, thought they just move the desk, mite be a different one from one studio to the other,as in next room. What I wanted to know please,is the 85 News At Ten,the camera zooming up to Big Ben's clock face with the scaffolding around it you can see that,it looks around winter time, how the hell is is zoomed to and angle right up onto the clock face? There is no way that is the ITN helicopter.
@@jamesnicholson2503 How they did that opening shot for the 1985 look was very simple. They went out and photographed the tower and clock face, by standing on the ground at the correct distance and took photographs of the clock tower. These photographs were then simply zoomed into by a camera back in the editing suite and edited into the opening titles. This also meant they could tweak the hands of the clock, if the bulletin was to air a bit later. There are News at Ten programmes from that era which shows the hands at 10.03pm for example. This is what I was told by someone who worked at ITN then, and are now well retired.
Hey mate, great channel. Was wondering if you had any bbc breakfast from april 1985? More specifically between 15 to the 19th of that month? Would love to see a live action performance from a lady called teresa codling where she played cartoon character 'jane'. Many Thanks. 🤞🙏
All of the news bulletins on ITV then and now are made at ITN - so yes, it was made at ITN - in 1982 they had two studios - Studio 1 was where News at One, News at 5.45 and News at Ten were produced from in 1982. The smaller Studio 2 was where news summaries, sometimes weekend news was produced from. ITN moved into more spacious studios in 1991
@@jamesnicholson2503 My Pleasure - if you want to ask me anything about ITN studios, please do. I know a lot about them. Since 1955, ITN has has just three headquarters - Television House Kingsway 1955 to 1969, Wells Street 1969 to 1991 and since 1991 until the present day 200 Grays Inn Road.
Both Harriet Harmon and John Redwood made it into the House of commons. Harriet winning this time. Both disappointed when they made it into cabinet. Both still MPs in 2024.

Sounds like a good memory to have.
I always remember these opening titles when I were a kid in the late 70's/early 80's, but only during the school holidays
And it was the best News At One theme from my childhood days,'
"Hello. Good Afternoon" - was Leonard's greeting call to viewers when he anchored the News at One
And make a point of welcoming the younger viewers. As did Peter Sissons
Day before my 7th Birthday. This was bad times for me. In Feb 82 I was diagnosed with Leukaemia. I am 49 on Oct 27th 2024.
Well Done mate, sounds like a tough time.
GOOD YOU MADE IT
Glad you stayed strong 💪
Good newscaster,one of ITNs best
Classic days of ITN news.
When the titles started the years came flooding back!

Made in the days when news was presented with authority
So retro, I remember this leornard parkın. Just a proper English voice back then like Kenneth Kendall
Tyne Tees probably called them to notify them of the Wearside / Tyneside error.
That made me laugh 😂. Just don't say that to Sunderland fans

On the 26th of October 1982, I'd not long started at Secondary school.

WHY OH WHY DO I REMEMBER ONLY "DAVID STEEL" FROM THE OPENING CREDITS ?

Peter sissons went on channel four news in 2nd November 1982 Leonard parking took over news at one until 1987 RIP 🙏🏻

Similar style of opening titles as First Report from the mid-70s, just with a different name and newscaster.
