I am 72 and flunked secondary school yet I find this an easy tutorial to follow even though I watch each chapter over and over. It doe sink in. I have bought a 3d printer to print a part for my exterior roller blind that is no longer available. This tutorial will tie everything together for me. Thank you.
This is the best tutorial I've found so far for someone like myself (a complete newbie to OnShape). David, you're an excellent instructor - well-spoken, easy to listen to. You cover everything in detail, so there are no frustrating, "I wonder how you do this?" or "I wonder what that does?" I'm able to follow your lead and emulate everything you do, learning as I go. The result is, I feel a sense of accomplishment and I feel like I understand what I'm doing and why I'm doing it. I often hear it said that the OnShape interface is relatively 'clean', but it can be daunting - all the tools and how to use them - especially to a newcomer. Thanks again for a job well-done; looking forward to the remaining tutorials in the series!
Can't agree more. Best Introductory tutorial on this software. Once I learned this, it was quite fast and easy to go around tools and construct models swiftly.
when u were explaining the format of the video at the start i was shouting YESS!! this is what i want thank you, to many "tutorials" explain a whole lotta things, at the start and we dont even use 90% of it so we forget it immediately,, explaining as u go is def the best method, great video on to the next one i go, also just realized this video 6 yrs old now, ITS STILL HELPFUL ! thank you
DANG the way you explain everything is so easy and simple to understand I found my jaw dropped because it makes so much sense XD (ive been fidgeting with Onshape for the past two days very unsuccessfully)
Your tutorials seem to be appropriately paced for me. While I have been proficient with AutoCad 2D back in 2005, I am new to 3D CAD. I have watched other tutorials for Onshape but most don't explain enough about the mouse clicks to get the desired outcome. I will be recommending your videos to my colleagues.
amazing tutorial - and OnShape seems to be far more intuitive (and yet with definable constraints) than most every other "Baby's first CAD" program - thanks !
Very good tutorial. No nonsense, telling me for 5 min what we gonna go through, just getting to the important stuff. One thing that would improve everything a bit is to pit the browser in full screen, it would make it probably easy to follow even on a smart phone.
this series of tutorials helped me out so much. Thank you! i havnt used a cad program in over 20 years. i have just gotten into 3d printing and earlier this week i tried to make something in tinkercad. it frustrated me so much that i looked for something else. yesterday i came accross onshape and used your tutorials to make the object i needed. i wanted to recreate a hard drive bracket out of an OEM PC so that instead of fitting a hard drive it now fits an SSD. thanks to your tutorials and a bit of google i was able to design the part in about 6 hours. now all i need to do is print it out and find out i have made a ton of mistakes. but thats all part of the fun :D im super proud of my design and so surprised that i was able to make it in one evening. thanks for all the help
Dave I am the 72 year old guy. Just letting you know I just printed off the end peace for my out door blind. Thank you again for your tutorial it was so so good.
I am currently using a software called TinkerCAD since all my designs are in 2D. I convert my drawings so I can output them to my 3D printer or CNC router. Thank you for making this video series. This year I am making a 3D picture to give out as presents in December, where when you move your head the picture moves with you. My design is beyond the capabilities of TinkerCAD. So far it looks like Onshape will be able to create my design.
Really well explained... Finally trying a few progs other than sketchup - just for fun... I had a v quick go on my own last week - just seemed strange to me... tried along with you - and have totally got a feel for it now.... I can see thats its not a completely different animal to sketchup - just a distant cousin! Right on to the next one - Bravo!
Awesome video tutorial, and easy to follow in the IPad Pro. Will subscribe to see more tutorials how to use Onshape. Thank you for making the tutorial.
At last someone with the correct skills to teach people how to use OnShape. Not like most others that might know the program but have no teaching skills. Now for the rest. Thank you very much.
exactly what I needed, I watched other videos, but they all assume we have some experience/understanding. You start by explaining what is skech and other very simple stuff. I was fitghting with the software like why is it that Ican't move that line, why is it not centered around the origine, now everyting make sense.

Thank you for your tutorial videos...I am new to Onshape and found these to be very helpful. Question: I made a double helix candle holder out of wood (using lathe, chisels, etc. to hollow middle section) and am trying to sketch the shape in Onshape. The candle holder has a total height of 8.5" and is divided into 3 parts...base taper section, middle helix section, and top reverse taper section. The base is 2" in diameter and tapers to approx. 1.5" with a section height of 1.5". The middle section is the double helix and this section of the candle holder is 6" heigh. The double helix spiral is hollow down the middle (as if you wind 2 wires around a tube then remove the tube). The last section is the top and is 1" in height. It has a reverse (upward taper)...with an end hole of 1 9/16" in diameter and 1/8" deep where the candle sits. I am trying to (1) figure out how to construct each of the sections and have them connect to each other, (2) how to add 2 helix paths that do not intersect each other (offset paths) and (3) how to "hollow out" the double helix middle section so that the middle (vertical plane) is hollow between the 2 helix paths. This link is an example of a double helix (twist) of a goblet...similar to what my candle holder looks like (the top section is different though as mine is a candle holder not a goblet...ua-cam.com/video/bl45nkMaYvY/v-deo.html Thank you so much for any help/suggestions/ideas/etc. that you may be able to provide.

is it still usable after 6years ?
Can't agree more. Best Introductory tutorial on this software. Once I learned this, it was quite fast and easy to go around tools and construct models swiftly.
My thoughts exactly!
when u were explaining the format of the video at the start i was shouting YESS!! this is what i want thank you, to many "tutorials" explain a whole lotta things, at the start and we dont even use 90% of it so we forget it immediately,, explaining as u go is def the best method, great video on to the next one i go, also just realized this video 6 yrs old now, ITS STILL HELPFUL ! thank you
Thanks David for making this tutorial, it's saving me time to learn.
Wow ! Just wow. The teacher makes this doable. Thank you x 1000 !
Thank you. I've watched several beginner tutorial videos and I have never fully understood. This video is clear and easy to follow along.
DANG the way you explain everything is so easy and simple to understand I found my jaw dropped because it makes so much sense XD (ive been fidgeting with Onshape for the past two days very unsuccessfully)
Instructions unclear, my cat is now 2 dimensional
Check out this cool AI website (best on desktop and on safari): ******- "facefinder.tech"-****0
Get it because you can't do that haha I'm laughing
I saw this commit before I saw this yt channel my teacher was reading the name of the video wile I was looking at the commits

Thank you, this has really helped me and now I plan on following the full series to help me enter a new hobby and maybe a new era of my life.
Dave I am the 72 year old guy. Just letting you know I just printed off the end peace for my out door blind. Thank you again for your tutorial it was so so good.
Excellent series of tutorials. Thank you.
thanks for such a beginner friendly tutorial. It really cleared up a lot of the intimidation when first loading onshape.
Significantly easier to understand than the software's tutorials. Thank you!
Excellent video with a good pace. Never had a panicky moment where I couldn't work out what you'd just done. Good job!
You really did a nice job with clear explanation and pacing. thank you.
you made it easy to understand. i ended up with a 3d object like yours. im so happy!!
Fab thank you. I have a rectangle with a hole in the middle. Maybe doesn't sound much, but to me it's super exciting.

Awesome video tutorial, and easy to follow in the IPad Pro. Will subscribe to see more tutorials how to use Onshape. Thank you for making the tutorial.
This is so much better than the guided videos on the website, those were a mess
Thank you for the comprehensive tutorial.
Glad it was helpful!
The "Hello World" of CAD. Thank you very much for this beginners tutorial
Still the best tutorial 7 years later.
At last someone with the correct skills to teach people how to use OnShape. Not like most others that might know the program but have no teaching skills.
Now for the rest.
Thank you very much.
You rock thanks for taking the time to make this. CAD seemed intimidating but you've eased my nerves
nevermind this vid is too old. they dont even have drawing easy now..sob

Glad I made it to the top of the list!
Wow. What a professional teacher!

Thanks for this video, is helping me a lot !!!!
such a great useful idea especially for us who know SolidWorks and just need to do some quick DYI. open source so cool
It's technically not open source, their EULA just allows you to use it free of charge under some circumstances. But yes, cool!
Yea, I was looking for a solid works alternative, and i came across this program, its great! Now can you make diagrams and prints with this program?
GREAT tutorial! Thanks much! Kuddos
COOL thanks for telling me HOW to extrude. That was so helpful 🙄
Clear and concise, thanks!
thanks for the video, really helped me!
Glad it helped Christian!

Great tutorial !
@Cole Stilwell what are you saying thanks for. You didn’t even make the video.

Thank you for the video I really needed it!!!!!!!
Perfect - nice clear instructions - good job!
such a good video david campbell college belfast love you
The simplest things are valuable. Didn’t know I could enter inch dimensions and have it calculate for me the mm. I have been using a calculator all this time.
Thanks, very useful . I needed it to change the speed in some parts but actually that's good. 5/5 stars.
Thank you
Great job sir..
super vidéo
Honestly, a very useful tutorial to break the ice going into tNice tutorials software
Thank you so much
nice tutorial, i subbed
verry clear thank you
I'm trying to follow, but I have no rectangle tool.. any help or ideas?
:)
why did onshape get rid of private models
Unfortunately Create -> Private is not an available option. Public only. What does that mean? Are your drawings (and ideas) available to the world?
With the free version of Onshape, Public is the only option available, and yes, anyone can view them. To get the Private option, a fee is required.
sangat membantu sekali, terimakasih atas info tutorialnya
good tutorial
Thank you! I found this very informative!
You're legendary
This is very helpfull and very detailed thank you so much
Glad you found it helpful!
CADSessions thank you I follow you r tutorials. You are the best person for tutorials.
