Hey Fishman, we finally made it in from our trip! Checking out checking out some videos while I clean up all my aquariums that sat for a month. I got a Fish or two missing. But I think they can all be salvaged.. thank goodness for plants! As soon as I get a chance I'm going to do my unboxings!! I was so happy to find your box as soon as I walked in the door. Thank you very much!! I enjoyed the video! I hope you have a blessed day!!🙏🌿🐟🌿💚🤗

I use a product called damp rid and it captures all the moisture. With over 20 aquariums it comes on handy . Good topic my friend.

Hey guys! Where one lives is such a big part of this. Climates very greatly. Even in the province where I live we have climates from an equivalent to northern California to sub arctic.

for your dehumidifier: drip pump, we use it cause our dehumidifier kept getting full too. Inside, where our pan is there is an option to hose it out elsewhere, we used a garden hose quick connect on one side and a connector that goes down to a 5/8th tubing, to a plastic tube into the pump, then tubing from the pump into a nearby sink. It came with two tubing size connectors to drain to, one was, i think, a 3/4 and the other of course was the 5/8th.

The self draining dehumidifier is the best option.
Closing off the fish room might help a little, but depends on the return air of the houses AC/Heat system. Closing the return air may adversely effect the heating of the room, as well as push the moist air out into the house around the closed door.
Air, like water, takes the path of least resistance.
The dehumidifier (or 2 if needed) are about the only real solution.

Hey ay! Thanks for your thoughts on this! The dehumidifier plays a big role for sure

My small fishroom is contained in our basement. We have an air exchanger with its input in the fishroom. This seems to reduce total house humidity. I also do not use aquarium heaters. The fishroom is heated by the lights on the tanks with the heat maintained by the closed environment. All tanks are covered. Humidity in the room is about 50-60%. Thanks for your other hints. Fred O

Hey Fred! I had an engineering friend with a large fish room who used an air/heat exchanger for his garage fish room. It worked well for him but he lived in the southern part of the province where the winters are much milder. I never tried one here. Thanks for sharing your thoughts on this!

I don’t think I really have a problem with humidity. I’ve got two tanks in a small 11 x 12” room. Leave a fan on in the room, just a tiny little fan to keep things circulating but that’s more because the room tends to get hotter than the rest of the house, but that’s not because of the fish it’s just the AC system. I really don’t notice a difference between that and the rest of the house. The AC system usually kicks on every few hours and circulates air but just those two tanks don’t seem to make a huge difference, one is a 15 gallon the other a 30. In California I had large Tanks and sometimes had three or 400 gallons in a room but I honestly never noticed any issue with it being kept in a normal part of the house. I know a lot of basements have humidity issues, in Illinois we had a very large basement but there were no tanks down there but we still had a dehumidifier running most of the time.
I think if anything moving air is important, humidity dissipates in the air, if it’s allowed to collect in one place it could be a problem I’m sure but as long as you have some kind of Eric‘s change moving I don’t think it will make a huge difference. My bathroom is tiny and when I take a shower the walls just drip water so I just turn the fan on the whole house HVAC system on when I take a shower and that helps a lot. I’m still watching the video and I’m sure you’ll cover it but to keep condensation from collecting on your windowsYou can just cover them, I bought kits with what was basically a cellophane sheet and two-sided tape, I’ve done the same Thing with a very thin plastic sheet and masking tape and are usually just leave that on in the winter, it’s basically just a vapor barrier over the window and creates an extra air space in there that’s not exchanging air which sort of insulates it as well and keeps the cold from getting in, that was enough to keep the windows dry, It also lowered the electric heating bill a pretty significant amount

Hey Shane! A small number of tanks really wouldn't be an issue. Even bigger fish rooms in some climates would't make much of a difference, but up here, in the winter it can be a concern. Thanks for sharing your experiences with where you live!
