I bought a DM 15000 for my whole house. Not quite $199, but it wasn't full price. Actually bought it for $500. However, it was a return to vendor due to damaged box. The fork went through the box and hit the generator. Opened the box and it only hit the frame. Dents and scratches don't make the engine run. So now, next hurricane we are all set.

I just bought a Wen DF452ix. It's pretty quiet. Under 75% load I can still have a conversation with someone standing on top of it with just a raised voice. It runs my 13.5k RV ac (11amp) and the inverters battery charger that charges at 80 amps on a 30lb propane tank for 10 hours. Just installed a 6k AC (4 amp) in the bedroom that should let me run the generator for several days on the same tank.
You can integrate a generator into your solar/ battery setup so that if your solar didn’t charge your battery enough you can have the genny kick on automatically when the batteries reach a set low while solar voltage is at a low set point. Used in combo this way you’re always powered up and your batteries can stay in their optimal charge/discharge curve. It’s the basic idea used by Edison motors.
yes if you will watch my solar video you will see where my inverter charger will automatically start my generator when the panels cannot keep the batteries up to a safe point.
@@pegsol3834 I had a lot of issues when trying to build a budget system. Finally settled on AIMS power for my inverts. Had Renogy, but they kept randomly shutting off. Went through 4 of them. Switched to a small AIMS power for my fridge after the second time of loosing all my food. Replaced the main one with a large Low Frequency inverter that has AC charging input and haven't had a single problem. You just have to figure out what voltage you want to run the DC side of things. Charge controllers tend to be multi-voltage, but inverters only work at one voltage. 12v is cheaper to get started, but 48V gets you higher wattage inverters.

@@OKLAHOMAOFFGRID depends on the trees most of the time. Some trees shed limbs really bad like white oaks. Others have a habit of attracting bug, becoming hollow and having shallow roots. Like black oak. We plan on replacing black oak with other better trees. Keeping an eye on the limbs about to shed and taking care of them before they fall is important. Most really big storms tend to split and go around us but we live on the top of a big hill. propane
So what do you do in the winter time when it's cloudy after season?
if there are many cloudy days in a row and the batteries do get to low i will put a charge on them with the generator for a short while
