I'm 55 and ate there often as a child. It was a sad day for Florida when it closed. Back then we dressed for a formal dinner when there. For us kids the treat was the crystallized sugar on a stick after the meal.
So sad. I was there as a teen in 1975, it was so amazing. The gardens had more greenery, orchids, banana plants, etc. The food was great, too and the famous 'planters punch' Still have the glasses from that. Thanks for the video, always wondered about it. Great to see the tree's still there. Great memories.
I knew the owner. He lived in Madeira Beach. What you see was NOT the same. More statues, fountains going. I told the owner food quality sucked. He laughed and gave me a credit. The next day we went to the skyway to fish for grouper. We ended up at Ted Peters…
My family would go to this place for special occasions in the 1970s and 1980s. Beautiful memories

I bet that place was a sight to see back when it was open!
Miss my free Hurricane Glass from 1975😢 -Debbie 🥰
Oh, and there was valet parking under that portico 😮🚗
That’s interesting! I bet it was an amazing place back in its heyday!👍😎
Great video. What a shame it was when they closed it.
It s sad that it closed. Wish I could have visited it when it was still open as a restaurant…..definitely a neat place!👍😎
There is a huge Kapok tree, in Ft. Myers, at the Edison winter home, on McGregor Blvd, which I saw today. (4/16/2023)
I will have to check that out next time I visit the Edison House! Thanks for the heads up!😎👍
That's Renaisance era, I believe. I ate dinner, there, once; about 1984, as I recall.
Would have loved to visit there back in 1984. Hopefully the food was excellent & delicious!👍😎

I proposed marriage to my girlfriend/fiance/wife in the Kapok Gardens in 1987!
"Gargyles"? Were these Gargyles, wearing gargoyle socks?
