It's wild that people still fall for these types of obvious scams in this day and age. I'm glad you're making people aware any way! There was a time I was looking for a mid 90's BMW M3 and came across a mint one for a low asking price... too good to be true. These scams have been around since the internet came into existence.
Every time I see these fake ads on FB or IG I always report it. It's sad that people are trying to screw other people over. Thanks for the video Maxx you the man. ☮️❤️🎸
Thank you. There's a scumbag named Brian Smith promoting free Gibson guitars (14.85 shipping) on Facebook right now. I just called him out on it and filed a complaint.
I got ads for that Sweetwater BS the past two Christmases. They try to make it so believable. Too good to be true applies big time here. Thanks for the update, Max.
Former ad on Pinterest ,claimed you could receive a brand new Lava ME3 ,any colour for $54.00 Cdn. For another $12.00 you would include, charger and drum effects machine. Did anyone try getting one of these
It is called phishing and that small amount that u pay for shipping would not be that scary at all but the problem is that u entered your card info so now they have it. So now the scammer can purchase things online from your card and spend more than that fake shipping fee.

I think I'm in the same boat with a scam. There wasn't any age, overstock or packaging deal. It was a Facebook advertisement for damaged guitars with chip and damaged guitars and I went for it. But I said it's 7.95 for shipping and handling and I've lost more money than that just going out. P.T Barnum "there's a sucker everyday".😏🤨
Always good to warn people about this stuff. There a lot of older players on FB guitar groups who, whilst they are comfortable using the app, are not so computer savvy as to know when they are being scammed. The more this gets highlighted, the less chance the scammers have of succeeding. Good vid.
So am I also not getting the 2000 cubic feet of air I purchased for $9.95? The Facebook ad said they will move my air to my residence but how would I even know if they sent it?
I also found out about a WalMart scam today. Third party sellers advertise items at ridiculously discounted prices, then they don’t ship the item and hope you will wait until your refund window closes. If it does, the third party seller keeps your money and you never get your item. Don’t fall for deep discounts from third party sellers at WalMart.
Be mindful about the ones that don't ask for money but try taking all your personal info in questions like DOB, maiden names, parents names etc. We all use these for passwords and things of that nature.
My wife & I got scammed by someone giving away iphones that had been in a factory fire but only the packaging was damaged. They claimed they were an insurance write off & I only had to pay $3 shipping. I did this & it set me up with a $200 a month subscription to something that didn't even exist. I was lucky. My bank was aware of this scam & blocked it after calling me. So watch out for that one too. It was all over face book for awhile.
Yes its true😢😢 lucky that im aware of this. They asking for shipping money using telegram apps and posing that they are true youtubers content creator. Thanks for a good advice ❤❤❤
I recently fell prey to USPS package scam, where you get a message stating that your package cannot be delivered because of address or damaged box. I happened to be expecting my new Waza Air , which did not arrive as scheduled, and because the psychological, emotional hook was easily set in my case, I was scammed. Luckily I called the post office shortly after and canceled my card.
Hey Max, you always have great videos on killer electric guitars that don't bust the budget, but are there any companies that make budget friendly classical guitars beside Yamaha and Cordoba? I want to get my Bach/Baroque/Yngwie on without the same ugly gloss orange top as everyone else. Any ideas?
I replied to an add about a free Wulitzer organ a few months back. She told me it had belonged to her husband that just passed away and she was in the process of moving but could ship it to me. It didn’t smell right ro me, so i asked what info she would need and basically "she" (or whoever) told me I'd need to pay for shipping and sent a link for some site. I didn't reply after that...
I know I'm late to the comment party, but I nearly fell for this scam a while back ago. I dreamed of owning a Les Paul and I thought it would look awesome with my own small guitar collection. Well anyways, I stopped dead in my tracks during the credit card information part. I was like "wait" I also knew my Missus would kill me. (The often sad but necessary thought of every married guitarist ever) So, I knew something smelled like some freshly laid bullshit. I did my own little research the same way you did and sure enough it was too good to be true. Reported that profile SO quick. Due diligence is the key my fellow axegrinders.
Thanks GM, gotta watch our steps in this computer world. Speaking about giving away guitars, what if you raffled one of your signature guitars for a buck a head, the proceeds can go to your favorite charity, and one of us subscribers can possibly score a signature guitar of yours for a buck! (Plus shipping) 😁🤘
I got scammed with this. 7 dollars to pay for shipping me a LP guitar. Sweet water logo. I thought it was legit. Definitely rushed things on my part. A big mistake…Good thing I was suspicious. I got a new bank card the same day and deactivated the old one .
A wise person once told me, "There's no such thing as a free lunch." Do your homework, and buy from a reputable dealer. If you want real gear, you'll have to pay for it - no way around it.
I had a co worker fall forna similar scam on fb. Ot was for an "overstock" snap-on tool box for something like 150 bucks. Like dude, it costs waaaaaay more than 150 bucks to ship one of those things. Got him to call his bank and have the charges reversed.
Got hammered this week with these posts so I reported them to facebook. Another one to watch for are the super low cost guitars. Had one where all the listed guitars were $29.99. Name brand to. First off, close-ups of the Les Pauls showed they were chibsons. Then following a few comments showed it was all fake. Same deal on BOSES equipment that popped up today. Beware!
And if I'm not mistaken I seen it on video shorts and it was your face but now hearing your voice it's not the same voice. You know I've got to laugh to keep from crying. 😂
There are scams on the internet offering well known budget guitars for pennies on the dollar. I went to a website that advertised a wolf wlp for $70.00 including shipping. The same site had a guitar called Gleesoy selling for $59.00 including shipping. The Gleesoy looked exactly like a 1959 Gibson les paul. The website was russian. Total scam.
I got Scammed twice on Facebook, one too good to be true , and one that offered some political items and then charged me twice, stating that if i backed out of the page they would charge me twuce and they did. Learned alot more from your commentary, And always Love your page. And thanks for being real.
Years ago I actually fell for one and they sent me a toy guitar but I got my money back. Because I went through PayPal. They have a pretty good return policy, still I wouldn't recommend it!
Biggest scam yet, some long haired dude going around claiming he dumpster dives at the back of GC and finds all kinds of great stuff in the trash. Don't do it, he's a cop just tyna bait you! 👮👮
I myself am not worried bout being scammed just cause I know it’s blatantly obvious, plus I use zero social media and only buy from my trusted retailers. But it’s always funny to see how bad they are with these, although what’s obviously a scam to me, wouldn’t be the same for everyone. Older generations didn’t have the displeasure of the internet and what not so for them it’s as good as done and that’s just the worst thing to take advantage of super irritating
I love wasting stammer's time. I have guitars, and tell them I sent the money. They try to get me to send it again. I keep them going for few day the send them pick of my free guitar that and thank them. That really confused them
UA-cam doesn't give a crap about policing the site anymore . Last year there were a ton of the guitar sites where you buy Gibson's and Fender's for 90 dollars and free shipping . I reported them many many times and nothing was done . In the end you have to use your head and listen to advice from people like you and trust your judgement
I unfortunately was taken. It was bluetooth wireless receiver for the guitar. I think it was $20. After that happened, I made sure to check the company's. Also, I am pretty sure it is a scam, but I have seen "x " company liquidating their stock of guitars hurry to get a good deal. Usually, some no name company guitar.
Rob Chapman just uploaded a video of him being deep faked in a video giving away a Gibson and it had his voice on the video. This is getting out of hand with all these scams.
My dad just got scammed this very night by this. Exact guitar even. I told him it was a scam and looked this vid up to show him. He already gave them his credit card numbers, and is canceling his card and putting a hold on it as we speak. It's krazy people are so evil they take advantage of people who don't know better. Thank u so much for this vid. It's so necessary. I don't know if some people can be convinced otherwise.
Max . I'm glad you made this video. Yes I was scammed last Summer.. Now as you know from some of my post I am happy having only 2 guitars. But one time I saw this Fender Strat they claimed to be giving away and I bought into it. No I did not get the guitar. Now it's a good thing I have online banking. I looked at my banking account and found somebody was buying stuff with my money from a company I never heard of. I went on this company's web site and contacted them about this and yes they took care of this and refunded me my money. My bank also did an investigation on it too. So if I can say it in my own words, then let me say this. If you see something that sounds to good to be true, Don't buy it !
Any guitarist who knows anything about Gibson knows they're not giving anything away. I've seen many of these. Usually all the comments are from Indian or similar ethnicity. Checking out their page you'll notice most know each other. I've seen these with other products like tools and tools boxes, motorcycles, bikes, kitchen appliances, etc. you really gotta use your head sometimes.
Yep, Gibson is a _business_ & works for profit. They don’t have to give them away. They make a boatload off people who can afford their exorbitant prices (which technically includes me).
I called Guitar Center to Verify a FREE guitar and was told = NO SUCH THING = SCAMM ~ I informed FB Tech support and was told that they can find NOTHING WRONG with the Ad =/ but let me post something funny & 10min later i'm getting Violation warnings =/
PSA: Please, please, please do NOT click on any links on Facebook posts (or any social media platform) you think may be suspicious. Max took a risk doing that for the sake of this video so you don't (his account could have been taken over or malware could have been downloaded to his PC -- yikes!) but the best thing you can do if you see something suspicious is report it. Don't comment on/like/react to it, don't click the link, just report it. I say don't comment/like/react because if you do it will unfortunately be pushed more by social media platform's algorithms as it would "appear" to be more popular the more people engage with it, even if they comment saying "THIS IS SPAM, DO NOT CLICK!". Nature of the beast... Stay safe, and remember: "Constant vigilance!"
I’ve seen tons of these. But my comment is about another person. A good friend of mine gets calls from lots of women. Turns out his pictures and profile is the 6th most used IN THE WORLD, for scams trying to get money out of women. He’s had women show up at his house, he’s had a woman try to send him a quarter million dollars to “help with his payroll for his company” he gets stalked and charges pressed against him . Luckily he’s had years of paper trail proving that this has been going on and it’s not him. It’s some dude in Nigeria. It’s quite comical but at the same time sad for these poor women. Smdh
Anything they can do just so they don’t have to actually work for a living bro. And I’m sure you know, but for some of these people, scamming is their employment!! They work for someone else and actually have a quota to meet. There are some videos of a hacker that fights scammers by exposing them, and are sometimes able to take the money they have stolen from unsuspecting people. You can hear them crying and begging for him to put it back. He works for the a government agency that catches scammers or call centers. It’s very sad that we even need such an agency. Anyway. Love your content. Keep it up
In these FB scams, the ones claiming they got a guitar is always an anonymous pic of the guitar, never with the new owner. Never! It's a scam. I always post that it's a scam.
Hey Max i got the same Gibson ad and thought it was bogus but read the comments you explained and got happy over it as i had to sell my guitar to make rent awhile back so i also must explain that im new to a phone or facebook so i was naive and went through process but when i had to give credit card info i stopped as i dont trust giving that info over internet unless a reputable business as i had bpught a cheap amp from reverb before but thats what stopped me from getting scammed was not trusting my bank card to a strange site but thank you for looking out for your fans man and keep up the great work
@@GuitarMAXMusic thank you,and no im leary over my account info or people i cant deal with on a face to face level except like i said reputable businesses like the time i bought the amp from reverb and such but thank you Max

So if I can say it in my own words, then let me say this. If you see something that sounds to good to be true, Don't buy it !
Thank you for sharing your experience!
@@GuitarMAXMusic Your welcome !
I've alerted Sweetwater 3 times in the past few months about these jag-offs using their name...
So you're saying if someone messages me and says someone I know died and left me a free Gibson guitar, I should find that to be sus?
I would say...... yes.
On that first Ad, I can't decide if the woman is really small or if the Les Paul is huge.
These ads are targeting the stupid.
John Travolta Looks good with these long dark hair! Waiting for some disco riffs
I've never (EVER) found anything for sale on Facebook that wasn't a scam. Just don't!
I liked the scam where they showed Marty Swartz and they AI his voice and he was say the same thing 🤦🏼♂️😂
Definitely April Fools. Who leaves awesome guitars in the dumpster 😂. Good attempt Max
Can't believe this low effort crap actually works 🤨
Yeah, I feel the same, but it does seem to work enough for them to keep doing it!
Naive people everywhere.
Over the past 3 weeks, I've gotten 14, yes, 17 free Gibson's and one Fender. LOL
I called Guitar Center to Verify a FREE guitar and was told = NO SUCH THING = SCAMM ~ I informed FB Tech support and was told that they can find NOTHING WRONG with the Ad =/ but let me post something funny & 10min later i'm getting Violation warnings =/
I almost fell for on of those telegram on UA-cam
Smdh
Incredible!
Keep it up
I got scammed a few years ago, thinking I was getting an Ibanez 8-string multiscale for $80. Instead, I got a pair of women's socks from China.
I think we have the same socks
But do the socks have a good tone ?
Solid!!
Why doesn't FB ban them
Gibson and lawyers !!!! 😂😂😂😂
In these FB scams, the ones claiming they got a guitar is always an anonymous pic of the guitar, never with the new owner. Never! It's a scam.
I always post that it's a scam.
Seen several of these scams
Hey Max i got the same Gibson ad and thought it was bogus but read the comments you explained and got happy over it as i had to sell my guitar to make rent awhile back so i also must explain that im new to a phone or facebook so i was naive and went through process but when i had to give credit card info i stopped as i dont trust giving that info over internet unless a reputable business as i had bpught a cheap amp from reverb before but thats what stopped me from getting scammed was not trusting my bank card to a strange site but thank you for looking out for your fans man and keep up the great work
I'm glad you didn't go through with it! And thank you!
@@GuitarMAXMusic thank you,and no im leary over my account info or people i cant deal with on a face to face level except like i said reputable businesses like the time i bought the amp from reverb and such but thank you Max
i thought glenn danzig is way over 35 so ..
I would have said peanut butter and jelly, but Gibson and lawyers does seem like a good sandwich to make... and throw in the garbage...
