We want you to Compare the slim pen 2 to the Apple pencil or the wacom pens
Hi Brad. Thanks for all your good videos. I have a question for you: I have a Wacom Intuos Pro M. Unfortunately one of my cats jumped up one day I was drawing and made an annoying scratch. Not terrible deep or big. But deep enough that I can feel a slight click and wave on the line when I draw. Is it possible to eliminate those scratches some how. Like with a bit of filler and some sanding with grain 1000 or so?
@@Choedron As it's not a display you COULD, but no matter what it's going to change the feel in that area. So you can just deal with a small scratch or sand it down and have a larger area that just feels different. I guess you could also try to fill the scratch somehow. You could even try finding a screen protector of the same size and placing it on the tablet. It will again change the feel, but at least it would be constant across the full tablet. In my experience consistency is the most important thing if you want smooth lines.
what you think about the new xp pen artist 10 2nd gen
The way you used the pens being so chill with each other to illustrate how you shouldn't stress about 'which one is the best' is genius
Especially since each one only works with their respective companion device
Until some Samsung "emr pencil" person "enters the chat"
(but it's sim to the wacom anyways)
It's legit cute :)
Shame they can't get married, cause their families disapprove of each other.
Wacom-eo and Apple-ia
What a script
I prefer the term "message".
Being hyperfoxused on "hqqqq" is bad for creative output...
I think it is shown subtly that Apple Pencil is a little bit superior from their interaction. Wacom is 'slower' at first.
I can only tell from my experience that the pressure curve is much better for Wacom. Especially the lift of cursor is what I miss on Apples pencil and it takes alot more pressure to get an initial stroke. With Wacom I can draw very thin and light lines much easier
I guess it’s a matter of taste, for me that’s exactly why I prefer (by far) the Apple pencil, it just feels more natural, in reality you have to apply more pressure on a pen or pencil in order to create a stroke, I had been a wacom user (and fanboy) for about 15 years but when I used the iPad with an Apple pencil it was uncanny, it does feel so real, in my very humble opinion and experience there’s not even a point of comparison, hands down the iPad and Apple Pencil win, and also in price since the best wacom experience is far more expensive than any iPad while the old pencil on a basic iPad has exactly the same functionality as the 2nd gen on a Pro.
In Procreate you can adjust the pressure curve for the Apple Pencil and you can make it however you want to press. For me, I miss the buttons on the apple pencil. (I do use the double tap which at first was weird, but I got used to it)
@@aoterouthat is ridiculous claiming that apple pencil is some how natural feeling is beyond crazy. Samsun pen is way better feeling then apple pencil. Also the apple pencil has some very very light wave the line quality in wacom is simply better. The only pro to apple pencil is procreate besides that hardware wise pro pen 2 is simply better and pro pen 3 i imagine is amazing too. I use apple pencil with i pad for convenience sake and the optimized app is insane especially with procreate
@@aoterou this is some ridiculous claims for a pen with less sensitivity and features. (also a sensitive pen can be customized to feel like an apple pencil. apple pencil cant be tweaked to feel like a wacom pen)
This has no right to be nearly as wholesome as it is. Love it!
Note that Wacom has like 10 different stylus protocols. EMR Digital, EMR Non-digital, AES 1.0, AES 2.0, AES 1.5, etc etc.
The one being compared in the video is EMR Non-digital.
I would love to learn more about this. Do you have a source for which stylus uses which protocol. Or any other links to how those protocols work? I have especially always wondered about the difference between EMR and AES.
@@thesevenpens Sorry, no. Wacom and manufacturers that use wacom pens are intentionally vague as possible on this subject. AES isn't suitable for artwork, it's a very cheap tech designed for note-taking.
@@thesevenpens Well, most tablets/2-in-1 that used Wacom, is using AES. The EMR is generally only used by Samsung and a few specific model from other brand (I think the latest Acer ConceptD line used EMR).
The AES is basically Wacom answer to Microsoft Pen Protocol/Ntrig, both are active capacitive pens, which I believe is cheaper and easier to implement. The Apple Pencil also works similarly.
Do u knw whitch tablet he is using in the vdo?
@@blue4059 Thank you! I'll continue trying to find what I can. It took me forever to dig up and assemble details on EMR :-)
Omg you are sooooo full of surprises! That was such cool animation, Brad! I can't believe you made the time and all the hardwork to create this video along with all the other videos you create. You are my hero!
5:00 Slight correction, you can actually double tap just about anywhere on the apple pencil as long as its towards the tip end. Found this out by accident and was super confused
His complaint wasn't about the 'button' being too hard to activate though.
@@tams805 yeah I get that, I don’t do much art with my 2020 iPad Pro but just a bunch of note taking and I guess you do hold the pencil differently depending on what you’re doing. I do actually sometimes go to the eraser in the middle of making notes. It’s annoying but it’s more annoying to me not having quick access to an eraser. To each their own of course; that’s why there’s an option
With the Apple Pencil, palm rejection is fantastic-but that’s kinda a recent thing. When I first got my iPad Pro (2020) I had to get a glove or turn off touch input altogether in Procreate. Notes/Markup still does it every now and then, though not nearly as much
Another GREAT example of why I tune in on every one of your videos! Great work, as always Brad! Informative, creative … and funny. How can you beat that?
As someone using them both on an almost daily basis, main takeaway is: Both they will get you where you want to go. The feel of each is different though. For those used to standard pencils, Apple's version comes out more naturally (and the drawing experience feels more natural too). Pressure sensitivity might be a tad more refined on Apple's Pencil too. But these days I've been working more on my 24" workhorse tablet and in the end what counts is getting the job done and both tools are capable of it.
Do you find the smaller point on the wacom (compared to the thicker, almost crayon-like size of the apple pencil) gives you more precision as you draw? As in, can you see exactly where the tip is on the screen, as it's not blocked by the thicker nib? Thanks
One of the best side to side comparison, you rock Brad!
THIS IS SO FUN TO WATCH!!! Great one, Brad!!! 😆😆👍👍
This is such a great video. I love how you keep trying to rile them up, only to have them support each other. LOL
Hey Brad, I am looking to order the XP Pen Artist 24 (non pro, the newer one). How do would you rate it? Are there any other options that you would want me to consider? (I am an animator and lookin for a larger canvas to work, my budget is around 500-600 usd)
Loved the animations and personality you gave both pencils :D
Nice to see both are not fighting... while there is overlap, both have their own specific use case and can compliment each other :)
Does anyone know how hard it would be for Apple to provide a hovering cursor for the pencil? From Brad's description of how it works, it actually sounded like it should be possible. I would LOVE to be able to hook my iPad up to a larger screen and work on it like a Wacom but w/o a hovering cursor it's kinda pointless.
if i take notes on a wacom pen every day then. on an avg how many days a nib of pen will last? can anyone help ??
Hey , I have an IPad 9th gen and I need a stylus. What Wacom stylus should I get for procreate or should I just buy Apple Pencil? Please help
Question: I’m buying a drawing tablet for animation but I don’t have a computer is there other tablets that can be used for iPhone ipad and ipad air
Just finished watching the video. Brad, this is an amazing video. Keep up the great work and thanks for entertaining us with such a funny video!
Thanks, I'm going to be trying some new things around here. Glad you liked my early experiment.
@@thebradcolbow I love the fact that video style is pretty much the same. But, the little animations are so fun. You should definitely make them from now on. If that is reasonable, that is. Don't stress yourself out too much by pushing so much on quality. We will still love your vids nonetheless.
In which program is this animation done? how long did it take?
I need help some guide if possible from anyone here i have ryzen 2600 build custom pc and i want a tablet to draw with it but im so confused is there a good budget ipad or something that i can connect with pc or which tablet should I buy and pen display vs drawing pad which one is better
it's important to note that the Wacom pens have different tips available. one has a spring in it that makes it really nice to draw with. Also the wacom art pen supports rotation.
Haven't finished the video yet, but I was wondering if you think long term use of the apple pencil is worse than samsung pens? I'm curious about the ergonomics of the apple pencil?
So much fun! These guys need their own show.
What's the best pencil for iPad 9th generation? The Apple Pencil (1° generation) is too expensive in my country so I'm thinking about other compatible one that could do the work.
Thank you
3:00 - 3:23 This piece of information explained to me why the pencil on Procreate always seemed to be wavier than just using paper and pencil. If only Wacom had a version of the Mobile Studio Pro that was as portable as the iPad without all the bulkiness.
Great video, and love my Galaxy laptop you recommended. It’s been great to go from writing to drawing with ease. If I were to buy one of these it might be the Apple Pencil, but it’s only because it’s with the tablet. If I pick any it would be the galaxy tab s8.
can wacom, x-pen and huion pen use on samsung s9 tablets?
Does the better wacom stylus work on the USB tab for windows? Just wondering?
Wacom Intuos
Awesome video Brad! Love the animation and cartoon you.
Great video! Did you animate the cartoons using Adobe character animator?
I have a Lenovo m10 what digital tablet should I get
The MAIN reason I really can’t bring myself to use apple pencils/iPad pros is the visibility of the cursor
Pulling your eyes off your drawing to adjust brush size is a total flow killer
the cursor bothers me so much on Photoshop, I feel a disconnection from the canvas , I really want Apple to make a drawing tablet lol.
You're not alone, I hear that a lot!
Im with you, Adam. also for brushes with tilt rotation, I need to see the shape and angle of the brush before doing a stroke. the cursor makes everything so much more precise.
That and the weight of the pen, which would be solved too if apple uses an EMR technology in the future. That's why I only use my ipad for doodling at best.
I enjoyed the style of the video. You should do these animated ones often.
Wow I've never been this early. Edit: The introduction is so funny!
I love how Stan has now evolved from just a creator to now Sponsoring artists.
Let's gooo, Brad!
I use apple pencil 2 on ipad pro 2020 and i dont get the sense of somewhat perfect palm rejection from it. Like there are almost always accidental dot/stroke when i draw with it.
very cute format :3 thanks for your effort
Brad, is there a 2 in 1 laptop/tablet that has the wacom pencil? I want a 2 in 1 but want a windows based 2 in1. I laugh at myself because I've been debating on this for months, watched all the videos, even have a notebook with best specs (which gets me more confused) I'd like a 32gb ram, 1T memory would be great and best gz, best screen? for drawing in software programs.. just best, but at best price also. LOL I've totally confused myself for months over this SOS! :)
The S-pen Pro would be an nice inclusion to this vid 😉😉😉
All S-pen from samsung has EMR technology provided by wacom, it would be a bit redundant.
@@MakiNoAtorie Just becouse wacom licenses out the emr tech to Samsung, doesn't mean that "wacom pro pen 2" and the "S-pen Pro" have the same qualities. The sppen doesnt work on wacom products, and only the Wacom pen that works on Samsung products (don't know about the tab s8 series) is the pen that comes with wacom one 13. Wacom pro pen 2 it's on another level then both the Sppen pro and the apple pencil 2gen. I think that the last would have been a better comparison. PS. Spen pro is a separate purchase, it doesn't come with any tablets or phone, that's the regular spen
I don't own a Wacom and rarely use my Apple Pencil, but this video was great; well done!
Is wacom creative stylus 2 good for drawing?
does wacom stylus work on ipad?
Could you please review the XP PEN STAR G640 Graphics Design tablet?
Tbh, I love this new format of videos.
Don't the Samsung Tab 8's use Wacom EMR technology and therefore can use the Wacom EMR pens?
Did you animate this on adobe character animator?
congratulations on 700k!!
I have a huion drawing display. And i turn off one of the buttons on the pen i accidentally pressed that button too often.
Plz make video on lenovo m10 fhd plus 3rd gen or p11 etc
Brad loves Character Animator now! 😄
Great video btw! 😎
This was an informative video, thank you. I still have a question. I use the iPad with a pencil and it works great. But one downside is the glass screen feels slippery, and my handwriting isn't as neat as it would be for real paper. I understand this is likely do as much to the iPad as to the pencil itself. I do wonder if the Wacom is better in this regard, or if some other handwriting device setup might be?
Most newer models of screened drawing tablets come with some sort of textured cover or protector pre-installed. Wacom goes farther and actually has etched glass on their newer models, the glass itself is textured so you don't get that slippery feel and dont need a cover. Although, I don't think it's worth spending wacom money to get a slightly better handwriting experience, they are freaking expensive.
just love these pen character here Lol
nice personalities as always . keep it up Brad !!
never thought i'd see a comparison video this fun and cute
Love the animation. No rolling credits at the end?
This one with a great storyline, loved it.
I am a hobby artist in my 40's and I started digital art 2018 when I got the 6th gen. iPad with first generation Apple Pencil. I have also used the Apple Pencil gen. 2. I appreciate Apple Pencil gen. 2 magnetic wireless charging way better than the Apple Pencil gen. one needing to be plugged in to the iPad. I have never used a Wacom or Samsung stylus. But maybe some day will use a Wacom or Samsung stylus. I am just into the Apple ecosystem so I like iPad and Apple Pencil.
This video is absolute genius in how it is presented.
5:06 IS THAT WHAT'S HAPPENING!?
You have no idea how much time I've spent googling why I keep randomly switching to eraser in the middle of drawing in procreate! So much time changing settings, trying to figure out what gesture I'm accidentally triggering... It's been so frustrating, but something I've just gotten used to after dealing with it for 3 years.
I just checked, and that's exactly what it is. All this time. All those hours searching for an answer. And I was just holding my pencil too close to the tip. Good lord.
Wow. First I'd heard of it, too!
Can that be toggled off, I wonder.
It’s in the pencil tutorial that pops up when you first use it…
Visit store page of the product before make a purchase really helps
How do they animate bounces like that? i usually see it on vtuber's hairs and league of legends splash arts
I want to ask I am a beginner to digital art and want to invest in graphic tablet should I go for a smaller 7 inch entry level or a 10inch drawing surface
I always suggest a 10inch - a medium size. I made a video explaining why: ua-cam.com/video/lGAhzRcMS3s/v-deo.html
medium or 10 inch, pick large if you are using bigger monitor at size somewhere around 27-32 inches. medium (10 inch) will go well for most screen size.
Congratulations for 700k follower's 😊
The most important question for anyone who is focused on drawing and doesn't make a living from digital art should not be what is the better pen, but the better overall concept.
I'm 100% with Wacom when it comes to pen quality, drawing feel, flexibility and features as well as supported applications. And yet I draw significantly more on the iPad.
It's smaller, lighter, mobile,, has great battery life and a great display, and the Apple Pencil is just fantastically integrated into the system.
I don't know the latest Samsung devices yet, but so far nothing on the tablet market could hold a candle to the Apple Pencil.
why you havenot made any video yet aout lenovo tablet drawing....are they not good enough
is it true that pro pen 2 easy to break and doesn't have good built quality
Loving the new animated format, but please do have your animated self to blink D:
This was the simplest and most PG comparison review, and I'm all for it haha
Fun video ... i enjoyed it ... thanks for that
GREAT video!!
Who did the voice acting? I can tell it's the same people who have done your basics drawing animations but I'm curious, especially since I'm an aspiring voice actor and hearing their more comical voices is interesting to me XD
I actually use huion and the pen is similarly shaped to Wacom pens. Very nice feel. I use the huion kamvas 22 pro which is pretty good for the price! Definitely more affordable than Wacom for a product that works really well!
Late comment, but as someone who has used both the wacom one feels so much better. It's like drawing on paper, no delay no weird pressure chnages on the tip. But yeah, huion is less than half the price 😅
@@sodapopjami dont notice any delay on my huion pen, but the tip can be an issue if you push hard when drawing
@@TraktorTarzan You can only tell when you use the wacom tablet. It's almost instantaneous. On the Huion tablets, there is some sort of smoothing on the driver that make the line feel like it's lagging behind the cursor.
You get used to it, I use both, one on my mac, and one on my android phone for sketching and what not.
The big difference is the pressure. On a wacom tablet, applying pressure on the pen feels soft and natural. On huion, xp pen, ugee, and other brands, it feels like you get a bit of a click when pressing the pen onto the tablet surface. I've tried all of them, Veikk, Huion, XP Pen, and the Ugee 2150 and now U1200. They all got that click that bothers me after working on it for some time.
Nice job👍 I was impresed by your presentation
Gosh I missed these animations. And I also never realized the Apple Pencil does jittery lines.
It's Brad style... And it's AWESOME
THE BUTTON JOKE GOT ME
Please make a video of OPPO PAD AIR on writing experience
Great video. Love the animation
Was going back and forth between Ipad and Galaxy Tab S6...In the end decided to go for Tab S6 because there was no hover cursor. I thought it would probably bother me in the long run because the apple pencil tips still had somewhat of a thick diameter.
Jokes on me though, My wrist starts hurting the moment I use either my cintiq or my tab s6. So I cant really use them at all XD. For some weird reason , it doesn't hurt when I am drawing in traditional medium. I am sure there is a ergonomic issue even though I keep my elbow at my desk and use an gloves to draw. Oh well....
I wonder why Wacom and other tablet manufacturers don't make the shapes of the stylus more pencil like, specially the tip. That is one big plus of the Apple pencil.
There are some third parties who make Wacom-compatible pencils. The Staedtler Noris Digital is quite nice, and there's also the Mitsubishi Hi-Uni Digital. Though the difference is mainly in how they feel in the hand: the tips still aren't really pencil-like.
I really do not understand what people seem to love about the Apple pencil tip. I use the Apple Pencil on my iPad Air - and I also used Wacom Pencils - but I just don't get it.
i think it is primarily because they are easier to stand up straight if their tip is wider.
I guess that's because the tip is designed to be used with textured screen of these tablets, as they will wear out fairly quickly, it has to be small and easy to replace. The small tip means they are cheaper to make and can be stored easily so you always have a spare.
That said, I'm not sure how the Apple Pencil tip wore out if you use something like Paperlike, but it seems to be more expensive to replace and storing the bigger tip need more space. I knew my Surface Slim Pen wear out quite fast after I added a matte screen protector, so perhaps it's similar. They were designed to use with smooth glass.
I’ve heard this question/complaint before . And my answer would be that not all artists use a pencil . I’ve never understood why an artist would want everything to be like a pencil. As a pro I use many different tools and pencils are only a beginning tool.
"Are you into anime? ah I'm into anime!" I love them😭💛
I think it's worth pointing out that the Wacom pen described here is the one which comes with their pro-level products. The pen which comes with their cheaper Wacom One pen display is different. Not that it's a bad pen by any means, but compared to the Pro Pen 2 it has half the number of pressure levels, and no eraser.
i use that one for my samsung, so for me it's no issue that the pressure levels are lower, cos it's still the same as the s pen for that model
Is the number of pressure levels actually noticeable compared to the lower end Wacom? I'm far from a good artist, so I genuinely have no idea
@@whenhen Pressure level, not really. I think what you gain with the pro is a more solid experience, the pen feels better and have more buttons with eraser back. The display looks better and more accurate, the Cintiq Pro even have laminated screen and textured glass, which improves drawing experience.
As far as line quality goes, using S-pen (the same tech as Wacom One) is already as good and I don't think most will see the difference. The pro is just providing you a better experience.
It's exactly the same technology though, just artificially segregated.
The Wacom Feel/Spen has fewer levels of pressure sensitivity (but still a lot), and two-button pens are very rare for current generation of pens (there are quite a few first generation ones, and they do work, but the offset is terrible). There are also a few pens with erasers out there for it, and you can make your own Frankenpen if you want.
On the current generation pens, one button and an eraser should always work. Most drivers, especially Samsung ones, don't support a second button though.
@@whenhen Higher pressure value of the pen give you more line variety/opacity maybe, I used both wacom one (2048 PS) and Huin Kamvas 13 (around 8000 PS)
Personally I like the Wacom Stylus more. I think it's easier to control than the pencil. When you do stuff you feel the pressure go from 0 to 100. With the Apple Pencil it happens more frequently that the pressure goes from 60% to 100%. So the Apple Pencil feels more chunky. That's not a problem for many artstyles, but if you rely on pitch perfect brush (color picker rendering) control it can be annoying sometimes.
I was drawing on a surface pro...I saved and bought an ipad and the feel was so slippery I stopped drawing for 6 months.
creativity is always very much nice to see.
Your animations are awesome!. :)
What about the Surface Pen? It has an eraser butt too. I have an iPad Mini 6 with the Apple Pencil 2 and a Surface Duo 2 with the Microsoft Slim Pen 2. Of the two, I far prefer drawing on the surface duo than ipad mini, and it comes down to the pen experience. the slim pen 2 feels better than the pencil 2, in my opinion.
Review the Apple Pencil Alternative: Penoval AX PRO For iOS/iPadOS Devices
I love this! Why cant most comparisons be like this??
I'm already acccusomted to apple products and it's ecosystem, but as a animation student have started add more variety of tech dislike having to sift through reviews and comparisons that are just restating specs and benchmarks.
Hey sir cowboy, I've been watching a lot of your videos to learn better about art hardware and etc, I'm going to start a design (in general, so product design, decor, graphic design and all that stuff) and I also do illustration for a hobby (but looking into using it as a sidehustle or something while I'm studying) so I need a nice fairly versatile pc but I'm also Brazilian so a lot of hardware isn't for sale here so everything is around 60% more expensive due to importation and also I'm broke, my thing is: I do have a desktop and a cheap huion H430p, but I need portability for university so I'm probably keeping this at home and look for a laptop, do you think it's better to try hard to get some money to go with a 700 dollar + 60% taxes i5 8gb surface pro 7+ from ebay (or something like that, sadly the HP Zbook G4 is out of budget, the Galaxy book1 pro 360 is expensive in Brazil kinda like 2k USD in direct conversion but even more expensive if you consider that our minimum wage is ~300 USD/month, but I could also try it as 750usd + 60% taxes from ebay) or go with a regular laptop (with potentially better specs like an quasi-gamer Acer nitro 5) with the cheap screenless huion I already own? is it better to go with a big start or with something that's potentially more upgradeable later?
I loved this very clever! *thumbs up* indeed
Awesome video!
Make a video about the surface book vs surface laptop studio
0:52 Wait, did you say "ElectroMagnetic Resonance" and then say "E-R-M?" How did that happen?
(sorry for the nitpick, but as someone who used to obsess over this stuff, I had to say something)
I love how you keep them friendly competitive, rather than trying to outmuscle each other.
Great writing!
Also, props on mentioning the cheaper alternatives as well; people always forget that.
Great vid, Brad, and keep up the awesome!
Yeah, I'm horrible with acronyms so I totally mixed up the letters 🤣
I will congratulate u for your efforts to create such an amazing video, great exploration
Wow, this is like a cartoon. Must have been hard to make even with just bendy puppets.
This is brilliant!
You're having a lot of fun with animator!
Apple pence by a mile. I love the iPad but it's too small. Now if Apple made an iPad 24" I would spend whatever they asked for it.
