    I was adopted at birth, so I used Ancestry to discover where I came from. In the process I located my birth family and found out that my bio mom and her family are from Ireland! I now know my birth family and it’s been really nice!

    Your video made me finally purchase a kit. My brother and I rely on our family to tell us our ancestry but no one is 100% sure on my mother's side what our heritage is so I'm super excited to see. I'm so glad you did these videos.

    You can upload your raw data to gedmatch and compare with others who upload to gedmatch that have used other dna services. I used ancestrydna while my brother and cousin used 23&me you can upload from many companies kits......

    Me and my brother found a relative that no one knew about. Apparently my grandfather had some infidelities when he was posted in England with the US army during WWII. She’s a very nice lady and we are hoping to visit her when international travel is allowed again.

    My adopted aunt (my actual aunt’s best friend so we call her adopted) found a half brother who was the child of her father and her mother’s sister through 23 and Me. He came to her wedding and was lovely. A cousin did the test, but she did it for my mom to help with her research. The results showed she had a half brother who was six months younger than her. He got into contact with my mom, who was going to tell her cousin. That half brother died before she could so she has never told her cousin.

    My great uncle, Wally Allen, died age 19, as a tail gunner over Germany in WWII. His paternal line (my paternal grandma's) goes straight back to a Robert Alan of Armagh, Scotland. I'm also approximately 3rd cousin, in that line, to Jim Henson of the Muppets. On mom's side, I'm related to literally all the aristocracy of GB and Ireland, going back hundreds of years. Her paternal grandmother was straight up Irish, with some Scots blended in, a Garrett, her mum an Orr, from Ballyknocken, on the Southeast coast of Ireland. My genes show I've got kin from nearly every county, mostly in Ireland proper, not much in the six occupied counties. But my fam from Ireland was protestant. Such a blend! And Elizabeth then first? That distant cousin of mine can go sod off, for what she did to Ireland. I've got Catholics and Protestants from all over the islands. America blended us all together, and has made us a New People. Too bad so many here don't seem to want to be related to other people who don't look the same. I love it. I'm Earthican. Our world is my island. I did my genes with 23&Me, under my given name, Gregory, if anyone wants to check me out. My sibs and mom are also under this platform, but my dad's sister and son are under Ancestry, Delores Webber Rosenthal, and Richard Scott "Scottie" Rosenthall, Junior. Find us. Were a chatty, convivial bunch. Well, except for my sister, because she's dead now, in 2018.

    This is awesome. I started doing some family research on my family and found out that I have Scottish roots that go back almost as far as 900 ad to a Scottish town called aberdeenshire. There is supposed to be a dunvegan there as well. Researching my family history has taught me a lot about how the family has moved from place to place. Keep digging and have fun. Slán go foil.

    This video was so sweet, I absolutely loved it! My mom has been working on our family tree for a few years now, and that's one of the ways we could confirm that our family immigrated from Ireland, and we even found out that one of our ancestors from Ireland had moved to a town in New Hampshire that I lived in about a year ago, and unfortunately lived and died in a work camp there. I hope you get a chance to meet more family members, and thank you so much for sharing, I really look forward to your next video ❤❤

    I enjoyed watching your chat with your cousins about your family history. My mother was from Co. Tipperary. When my sister took the Ancestry DNA test, it nailed Co. Tipperary/Munster Province, but it also had Scottish and Welsh, and, surprisingly, 1% Norwegian (my mother’s maiden name originated with the Vikings). But the matches online were, like your test, 3rd-5th cousins.

    was just listening to a podcast about this. someone did a dna test, then found out they were closely related to tons of people they had never met. the only common link was an experimental in vitro fertilization lab in london that operated in the 40's, 50's, and 60's. highly improbable occurrence, but makes for great soap opera fodder! ;-)

    Next Step : Have all the people you match with take DNA tests. And them have their matches take them, as well. Until eventually we can all be tied together! Everyone's an Aunt, a brother, a nephew. Then, when we all get together on holiday, we don't have to feel bad about wanting to punch each other in the face, simple.

    I was born in Winnipeg, Canada, I'm 40% Irish, somewhere in the County Killkenny, my grandmother's parents immigrated to Canada in the early 1900s just before WW1, she was born in Alberta in 1928. 30% Welsh, one of my ancestors is the 17th century pirate Black Bart Roberts, and 30% Cree (Canadian Native), Assinboine Tribe from Eastern Saskatchewan. I have native facial features but my skin is an Irish pale white that burns easily. My sister Lisa has green eyes which is definitely an Irish trait.

    I did this test and it said I was 2% Native American, my first thought was that's obviously wrong but when I spoke to my mother I said that I was 2% non-european and she responded "Oh that would be Native American" apparently her father had the belief that were had a Native American ancestor because his grandmother looked mixed, when he asked his mother why she looked different he was told not to be rude and ask questions like that.
    I also spent months expanding the family tree and found out I have a distance relative called Sandra Ilene West, if you look her up you'll find that she was buried in her Ferrari car sitting in a reclined position in her nightie.

    I had been shared a lot of family genealogy with my great aunt Mary - she was a pro before internet and DNA ! She is gone but I have been lucky with DNA and some of the unknown Galway lineage . It was great to connect with a third cousin and find out about our shared connection . Irish people are tough to learn about as records for people who didn’t speak English are not readily kept and so many names are repeat names .... ugh

    • @VailsMom
      @VailsMom 3 роки тому +1

      Tracy Denny I do feel very lucky to have my twin, she had breast cancer and mastectomy when we were 33, so we feel very lucky indeed that she is still with us. I’m sorry to hear about the disease in your family. Not my business, of course, but if you haven’t already, I very much recommend medical genetics testing if you have a condition that can be tested for and there are other family members who would benefit from the knowledge gained. Ancestry and 23 and Me can be helpful in finding family members, of course, but it can’t give you actual medical information.
