  • Following the removal of a Portacath, the Portacath scar site can become painful and sensitive to any mechanical pressure or stretch.
Breast Cancer patients often report pain with activities such as lying on the side of the Portacath scar, using the shoulder on the same side as the Portacath scar, and clothing rubbing on the scar.
The good news - the Portacath scar can be treated just as any other painful, sensitive scar. In this video I show you how to firstly, de-sensitize the scar tissue, then secondly, improve the scar tissue flexibility to reduce tension and also pain.
I walk you through suggested length of massage time, frequency of massage, and demonstrate a pectoralis stretch to improve tolerance to Portacath scar tissue stretch.
Never touching a sensitive scar will only achieve one thing - it will keep that scar sensitive forever! So watch this video to learn how to get rid of this issue.

My port was put in in Apr 2023 and was removed in Nov 2023....the port was the ONLY problem I had with cancer and the removal hasn't been much better. Will this ever stop hurting?

Hi Marilyn, so sorry for my delayed reply. I apologise for the lack of demonstration in this video. I recorded this video very early in my UA-cam days and my editing skills were not up to speed with the topic. I have a Private Facebook Group called 'The Compass Community' - a global online Breast Cancer Education & Support Network with weekly live education sessions and Q&A. I will be able to assist you more on this platform. Here is the link if you would like to join: facebook.com/groups/breastcancercompasscommunity
