      Very poor design and it took me 2 hours total for both sides and Youtubing it made it even longer. My larger 16" aftermarket wheels didn't help with gaining access to the tight area.

      No offence, but this method is mostly for people with large hands, granted it was a bit tight for me, ... i did mine within ten minutes from doing it from within the engine bay.....
      If you are planning on doing fog lights (for people with that version) there is a screw right underneath the silver line from the outside (you'll need a Phillips screwdriver).... this is my version goo.gl/images/eiTgfD

      I hate changing the bulbs. If the #@$& designers put another inch (2cm) into the engine bay it would be a much easier job!

    Put the bulb into the housing and secure it with the bracket first. Then hook up your power supply wires. I found this easier. Still, this should be brought to Mazda's attention the way the 6 eats headlights. Mine is a 2012 and I have replaced bulbs 3 times on each side!!!!! Still have original hi-beams.

    Thanks for this video, i love our 6. It has some challenges like the bulbs but lots of car designs forget about the hands and tools. The bulbs do seem to fail often on Mazdas, our 3 before was every 8-12 months. Had to drive home with the fogs the other night as when 1 bulb goes the other will. Maybe a voltage issue, or maybe just because similar age thing.

    • @Jay_Rule
      @Jay_Rule  3 роки тому +4

      Thanks for sharing. Unless you are driving for long periods of time at night everyday, I feel it should last at least 1 year. I don't see how these halogen bulbs die so fast since they should last 2000 hours or 2 years when used approximately 3 hours a day. Maybe it's time to switch to LED if it's compatible.

    I had burnout issues on my Mazda Protege5 with the same H7 bulbs. You HAVE TO use dielectric grease on the metal bulb connectors and/or the receiving socket/wire harness to make bulbs last. Works great. I'm here because my neighbor has a Mazda6 with a burned-out headlight. I'll probably jack the car up anyway and maybe remove the wheel to give me more room to work. Thanks for the video. :)

    • @Jay_Rule
      @Jay_Rule  2 роки тому

      I heard wearing gloves when handling the bulbs help reduce burnout due to oil contamination.

    • @haydn-db8z
      @haydn-db8z 2 роки тому

      @@Jay_Rule Indeed, you need to do that. But even doing that, my bulbs would burn out yearly until I started using dielectric grease as recommended on a Mazda forum.

    I'm checking around the tubes looking for a good fog light replacement video for the Mazda 6 2012 and ran across this one. This is the first time the foglight has gone out, I cannot say the same for the headlights. Figured I would have a look because once I replaced my headlights the beams look like they're all over the place, one pointing up and one pointing down. I still haven't found a way to adjust the beam direction, so if anyone knows or can point me to a video, it would be appreciated. Make sure you replace both headlights at the same time. One thing that I cannot recommend enough when you replace your headlights is purchase the bulb grease (dielectric grease). It comes in a little plastic one time use pouch and is maybe one dollar. Trust me on this one folks. I bought my 2012 in 14 and replaced headlights in it every year since I have owned it, maybe twice in one year, except for the last 2 years when I threw in the towel and bought the little pouch of grease. I haven't had a headlight go out since then. I tried all of the major brands too, it did not make a difference. The grease is the answer. Putting the headlights in is a major pain in the ass. Spend the extra buck on the grease.

    If this was the first time you replaced the bulb on this side, one thing I noticed was when you were reinstalling the bulb, you had the bulb receptacle with the wiring facing the on the opposite side which caused the clip to pinch down the wiring harness. You can see the before removal at 3:53 in your video, and the after at 6:11 in the video. Not sure if that would hurt anything as the clip had a raised point , but it's still different than what you started with.
