How To Replace Taillights On A 2012 Mazda 6 Car

- Today I'm making a special video on how to replace the brake lights on a 2012 Mazda 6. I'm pretty sure the concept and steps apply to most vehicles. It's good practice to replace both brake lights at the same time. Don't forget brake lights act as a safety tool in preventing other drivers are rear ending you because it helps with depth perception.

MAKE SURE TO WEAR GLOVES AS PROTECTION IN CASE BULB BREAKS BUT ALSO TO PREVENT CONTAMINATING THE BULB WITH OIL FROM THE FINGERS WHICH WILL CAUSE THE BULB TO OVERHEAT.

If theres any point in my life i have to replace the brake lights of a mazda 6, i can only thank you jay rule for showing me how
Cronicwisdom No problem man. I learned something too. Sometimes it's best to do it yourself than pay the dealership.
The front lamps are a bit of a nightmare. It involves the wheel being off, with the wheel well cowling being partially removed to access the front lights & signal lamp. Prepare to spend at least 2 hours in good weather for the job. It requires patience & a strong steady hand.
Thank you so much for making this video, a word of advice to anybody who’s having trouble getting the lining back in, the metal part that the hole is in for the lining is very bendable, so if you’re having trouble reaching the hole, mess with the metal flange a little bit and you can get it in the hole!
Thank you! I just was pulled over for a burned out taillight too. Wish it was this easy to replace a headlight bulb 😬😬
I wish more police would do their job in the Seattle area because every time I drive I see cars with burnt out front or back lights. It's a total mess here.

is there a video to show how to replace the clear cover over the rear lights?
What about the gear shift pulp and the lighter pulp
dude you got that same care I got.. haha,, needed this vid.. thanks
Thank you
Thank you. I am going to replace it myself.
I just replaced both of mine with LED bulbs a few weeks ago
Thanks for the video. This made my life a lot easier. The only problem I had was finding the second brake light bulb socket. It took me a good two minutes before I realized the second brake light bulb I was seeing was a reflection. Derp.
sec713 Reflection off what? Anyway, I'm glad it worked out. The first time is always the hardest but subsequent turns will be easier. I assume you have a Mazda 6 too?
Jay Rule Yeah, I do. I was looking at the light fixture from behind the car, and the mirrors inside of the lamp enclosure make it look like there's two bulbs inside. As I started removing the bulb housing I figured it out, when I was pulling on one bulb housing, but it looked like two were coming out, if viewed from the rear.
sec713 I see what you mean. At least you figured it out. Is it working fine now? BTW, I got pulled over by the cops who gave me a warning.
Very helpful! I'm about to replace the brake lights on a Mazda MPV - the insight about wearing gloves was smart, and will be followed!

I have a 2010 mazda 6, my right rear bulb is gone, how can i find the right bulbs to buy?
Thank you so much!
Make sure it's the right model or ask Autozone
Jay Rule thanks a lot!!
Exactly, it costed me 27.99 before tax to replace one of the bulbs in the local dealership. Now after 3 months it's broken again, the same side! Any one got any ideas if it could a circuit problem? Appreciate This video save me a lot of money.
Time to switch to LED
Thanks for the video!! 😉

I have the 2003 model but its all the same. It was very helpful, it saved me quite a few bucks! Cheers! :))

About to replace the tail lights on my Mazda3 with LED bulbs, we'll see how it goes
Good luck bro. It should be pretty straightforward.
@@Jay_Rule I made sure I knew how to do the process before buying bulbs. I was just going to get regular but then one of the bulbs literally burned out as I was putting them back in and that convinced me to do LED
I didn't know Ja Rule was good with cars
I'm versatile
What was the screwdriver for?
To pop off the plastic liner nuts
Thanks mate.

Can you put the bulbs on wrong ? this is my first time
Sure. That is why you have to confirm it's installed properly. Check by using another person's view or record it with your camera.
My car is missing the cover on the right side but only the smaller piece do you know where I can find a replacement
Ebay or Mazda dealer
How about the third?
Good question but unfortunately I've never replaced that.
@@Jay_Rule All good, the wire was unplugged.
do lights turn on for the ones on the trunk too?
+Chris B Separate bulbs. Those will not burn out in a very long time unless you leave your trunk open accidentally overnight or something.
+Jay Rule oh ok cool!
why arent the little black things going in as easy as they came out
They are easy. You just have to understand how they work: ua-cam.com/video/IMTLryzcW2g/v-deo.html
@@Jay_Rule thank you! :)
This video could have been condensed to 1:30.
I like to be detailed
You don't need gloves unless you have baby hands.
The gloves are for the lightbulb. If you touch the class you will leave oil spots on it from your fingers and creat heatspots which will reduce the lifetime of the bulb.
It's to prevent getting oil onto the lightbulbs. It will burn out faster.
gloves? for real?
They suggest that in case the bulbs break
Thank you!!
