- My friend Long Beach Joe and I went for a late afternoon/night hike in the snow looking for a cool spot tt backpack to next weekend. He was given 2 pair of snow shoes and we tried them out. A few miles in, the set he was using cracked then fell apart. We were miles from the truck and he was post holing knee deep snow. The sun went down and the tempts dropped fast. IF, things would have gone real bad, I could have and would have gone for additional gear to get him out. It is just another reason you dont go out in snow or ice solo!

I read the description. Same kind of thing happened to me December 2022. I hadn't used my snowshoes in about 14 years and used them on a winter backpack up in vt. Got like a mile in on the trail and the rubber straps started decomposing and breaking. I barely made it camp that night in knee deep snow where I had to tie them onto my boots all Jeremiah Johnson style😁! I ended up finding a company who sells those flexible rubber straps and rebuilding them.

She was found, down by the falls, I believe. Ice ice baby, dropping people since day one. Poor girl might have been there for who knows how long yelling for help. The falls are loud. 30' and your voice is useless

Looks good to me. A lot of work, but it's worth it, like always getting out there is the magic. I'll be in Yosemite this week and will be snowshoeing, too.

I've spent the night up there in the snow before. It was really wet and big snow and it kinda sucked to be in so we went and got a cabin for the night. It was great. I have a very old video of the event on my channel.
