The last frontier of the San Gabriel Mountains

- Over the years, I have posted over 1,000 videos, mostly in the San Gabriels or other mountains.
I have tried to share my interests in nature and the Original native people who once thrived in the area. I have learned so much in my lifetime and had so much fun.
In my video collection, you can find everything from wild edibles, primitive fishing, primitive bows, gold mines, prospector history, native burial sites, ancient camps, fishing, rattle snakes close up, hauntings, and history of every kind. I have some in the city as well, on the early days of O.C. trails of all kinds.
I even have a couple videos on human remains I found years back. and how that played out.
Arts and crafts made from things found in the range,
"Did I mention fishing" yup have some of that too.
I also post invites and have giveaways to keep things fun.
I hope you find what you're looking for in my posts. - Навчання та стиль
The range is an awesome place. Like any and all places, it's at risk from poachers, druggies, thieves, vandals and so on. IF WE DO NOT DO OUR PART, EACH AND EVERY ONE OF US, IT WILL NOT BE THERE FOR OUR KIDS , to enjoy and learn from. There is much to learn up there, about the past, the present and with the people you will meet, possibly the future. Take care of it and give back as often as you can, with clean ups, trail maintenance, graffiti cover and more.
I love what you’re doing, it’s really inspiring to make people want to hike
And that part about paying the rent, was awesome
I totally agree
@@martinvandecarr1150 thank you for the support. cheers
You’re the man Alan! A living San Gabriels legend

Thanks for your years of dedication to the exploration of the great outdoors and for sharing your adventures, experience and wit, Shirley😂.

Man it makes my day when you post a new video, thank you for doing what you do, it lowers my blood pressure watching your videos no bs , I've not been able to get outdoors in a few years due to a serious injury I miss hiking a lot
ill go fishing full force when the time comes I can no longer do it. IF, that days comes before my end
Man keep on Truckin. I have watched your videos for quite a few years now. You have brought a lot of people some great moments exploring the San Gabriel mountains. Your a one of a kind
thank you very much. I may not have a massive outreach but longtime friends I have thousands. thanks for all the years
Thanks for taking us along my friend.
right on. hows the new area? anything you miss about the old one
@@PHARRAOH love it. I have a 12,000 acre state park right behind the house waiting to be explored.
Very epic, bro. Thank you for always bringing us along with you. Much respect!
thanks man, either set up a camp out there or join us here this spring
Hey Alan thanks for another fantastic video! I’m sure I’m not alone saying that I truly appreciate all the work you do in making these. Outstanding would be an understatement! Be safe and God bless.
thank you sir. More to come, including something of historical interests few will ever get the opportunity to see.
Thanks for your videos and history of the mountains I appreciate it helped me get through hard times
thank you and if you ever want to join us, let us know
Beautiful place. Life is old there and the rocks remember their past visitors.
you know, ive walked past certain stones and plants, so many times, I catch myself saying hello. weird but true
Bear Creek is looking really nice with all the green grass and flowing water. Cool to see big mermaid from way up there. Thanks for sharing.
dude, that river was scarry to cross. I was shaking
Wow it's been so long since I've seen water like that in those mountains. Alan I've been right there with you for a very long time. Your videos are just wonderful. It's like I'm right there with you. And being that Im very familiar with the place also it makes me feel like I'm home again. I too have been on YT for 17 years and a couple of years before GOOGLE owned it. It's been a wild ride eh? But the best part is that you involve and teach the people who watch. You don't just show us stuff. You help us experience it and we learn so much from you along the way. And the live trips that you put together and share with perfect strangers just shows what a giving person you are. You really know how to have fun. Thanks so much for all you do.
thank you very very much. The lake area is closed right now, spraying for bark beetles. trees are literally dropping
Hiking solo is always more memorable, experiencing every twist and turn in awe.
Something magical happens with no distractions to sway your awareness and attention. I admire your spirit and keen sense of adventure.
That time lapse was super cool 😎 . The one good thing about losing your bearings is that you cover more ground and make a mental note or map for next time you're in that canyon.
Trail blazing at its finest .
felt rad to walk in totally undisturbed, unchanged riverbeds and ridges. I sat in my truck at lunch today at work and felt my knee itching. I looked at it and saw what I thought was a tic. I squeezed it and a 3/8 long yucca tip popped out. 3 days after going in. souvenir action.
The day has come, my friend. It's time to put down the hiking poles. And pick up the pen. I have watched you all these years traveling through my beloved San Gabriel Mountains. I beseech you, please find the time to get your knowledge and experiences on paper. I have no doubt the soul of John W Robertson will smile upon you in this endeavor. It is simply your turn.
you'll get a special copy come time
@PHARRAOH I am not a huge reader, but on that day, the rest of my world will come to a stop. It will not start again until I have finished from the front page to the back.
What an adventure you had... We take pictures of big horn sheep... big horn sheep take pictures of you. Thank you for sharing. Take care Alan. 🇺🇲
i remember when Derrick and I took the high trail to Iron and those sheep were looking up and us and confused
Great video man. I have that same mindset exploring areas off trail. I imagine the first foreigners cutting trails in these areas
few areas left over here. the ones that are, are a pain in the back side to get to
Truly an inspirational video Alan. I have been watching you for many years and It is amazing all the places and things you have done! Thank you for sharing all your adventures with us. Your knowledge of the area and all that it offers is truly amazing! Well done my friend!!
thank you very much. youtube united the world in many ways. Hope you come out and join us one day
@@PHARRAOHI will Alan. 2 more years to full retirement again 🤣🤣. Thanks Alan! Stay safe!
I always enjoy your videos. I really like the tarp
It's a poncho tarp. 8 ounces
Alan, such a beautiful adventure into the true wilderness. Yes, I think that ancient people lived there. They had access to game and water almost year 'round, and I bet there was good foraging, too. The "feeling" for the place came through the video shoot. It might have been one of the ancients' summer places.
Another was graveyard canyon, as a spring summer. Then down to Pales verses. Aka land of the big sky, to trade with other tribes/groups
I love the place and have never been there❤❤❤
thank you
Great content, hopefully one day i can attend a group camp/hike when you announce!
thank you. ill be posting some real soon. check back regularly
Bad ass hike, congrats brother. 🤘

So much to see. So little time
Fantastic video Alan. I think you should write a book. Memoirs of the San Gabriel's
its in the making. if you have any ideas of things or ways to best it, let me know. thank you
A living legend. I hope to meet u out on the trial. Please post an up coming outing. A solo hike plan for U, but think of We. U are an encouragement to the few that are loaded down By the stress of life
Thank you very much
Hope write a book you are so knowledgeable to the outdoors I would read it
ill get it finished one of these days and work in some sort of never before done hidden gimmick inside
Nice
thank you
The last frontier is triplet rock via bear creek!
They are merely a spec, a targeted point of intrest, where the area below, lay hidden in plain view. Completely untammed and wild. when the snows gone. Ill do it as a through. its already in the making
Great video, thank you.
To find out the history not locally available, make a trip up to Sacramento and consult the state library.👍🏼
rarely get up that way but if....., I will
The John Muir of the San Gabriels
Thank you for watching
LOL You ask Who has walked this ridge. I sit on a rock and say "I wonder how many people have sat on this rock and said, I wonder how many people have sat on this rock". LOL...
It's the thing to do I guess
My favorite are you with your daughter! ❤
shes 23 now and has a 1 year old son, I miss the old days.
you should write a book about your hikes
its been in the making for years. ill get it done soon
That was a good one. How was that chicken meal 1 to 10?
its a little sweet but if you add just a dash of thai chilli, its about at 8
You must be a couple canyons east of Devils Canyon.
More than a couple. Map at the end. Big mermaid
I hope you write a book someday. It would be a shame to lose your knowledge.
I can not begin to list the people, stories, trekks and work shops I have been to or involved in, to know what I know. Its all out there, just scattered and fading fast.
@PHARRAOH Give it serious consideration.
@@SoCalGrandpa67 ive got tons written down already, it will be done some day
i bet on those ridges you would get great am radio, ham or gmrs at night even shortwave.
i have a c.craine radio, gets coast to coast real good. 2 double a
A leader isn't a leader unless they lead by example.
THANK YOU FOR WATCHING
are there any trout up big mermaid canyon?
No fish, it's a bunch of tiny springs, no real pools
Bear Creek!!
Denied. All locatios given throughout the video
Woah I missed the native camps. What did you find there?!
grind stones, used to process foods.
@@PHARRAOH incredible. It would be cool to spend the night at one of those locations just to feel the energy.
Hi Pharroah. Do you have an email address? I recently acquired dozens and dozens of very old topo maps of the San Gabriel range. They are all old, but some of them date back to around the turn of the last century making them over 100 years old. They predate some of the existing roads and other relatively "recent" man-made features, but may reveal other things (mines?) that have long since disappeared into the brush. I would like to arrange to give them all to you, if you want them.
Sure, I live local and could meet you sometime, do a swap for something you van use
People try getting to triplet rocks from thay canyon
from the 1st ridge, but you must walk around the curve in west fork bear and backtrack. It would be much easier to go up west fork bear and about 1 klick in there is a game trail that will take you to the same ridge on the correct side saving you 3 or 4 hour walk
That was awesome
I had to get up about 2am, the wind pulled a stake, dude, the double crampage I had in my upper legs was powerful bad. I was dancing around hitting my legs to dull the pain. A lot of climbing up and down
All the people who commented all words of value and rea people behind those words. What a good vibe reading all the posts , followers of pharraoh
I feel very lucky to have such viewers
I'm a bit jealous you got to sample that sweet big mermaid juice all by yourself. And thanks for busting up those illegal fire rings.
brought home a full quart. I finished the canteen in the lot when I took my pack off. I met a woman on the road at the .5 mile mark that asked me to teach her to fly fish. I, being the type of guy I am, agreed and she said she'd make it "worth my while." hmmm, Im a fly fishing teaching mo fo!, come time the bluegill start the spawn, so shall I
Bro when I was there last someone dug down close to 3 feet in that fire pit. I did my best to fill it up. I put rocks it in so those rat bastards would have one hell of a time if they decided to dig it again. I really don’t see the point of digging that deep either. Stupid. I do have to confess after putting a plethora of water on the ashes that was previously a green screen fire that I failed to disburse the rocks that made the fire ring. My bad!
I do it every time, weather its mine or not. make the next guy work for it. make him think
I wonder if or how many narcos are out there. Either way it looks like this is going to require a return expedition.
NO ONES OUT THERE. ITS NO MANS LAND. I dug a hole and left a stash
@@PHARRAOH I’d like to go
big groups and hiking clubs suck
Most times, they are noisy, destructive, and no respect kind.
