EXCELLENT DEMO - I came here looking to see what the Variax (Pacifica) standard had to offer... I was not disappointed.
Very well explained by Victor M. Clear, concise, to the point, with expert musical execution. Great upload. Thumbs well up.
Victor, you are amazing!!! Your ability to communicate the details of the Variax Standard was incredible. Outstanding work!!
Great demo dude, not too much flash and bull sugar, but just the right amount of playing to demonstrate the tonal feature(s). Triple A+ demo job!
This has to be the greatest guitar+ I’ve ever seen. I learned about it only recently after watching the rig rundown of The Doobie Brothers and saw John McFee using it. I saw the band play last summer at The Classic West and could have sworn Mr. McFee was playing a “normal” guitar. It sounded great! Why isn’t this instrument more well known?!
Guitarists already know about the variax guitars. It's just not that popular. The older models were ok, not great. Also the fact that you're stuck with their guitar shapes, turns more people off. A lot of people been asking them to sell the modules separately, but Yamaha (line 6 parent company) wanted to sell more guitars instead. I'd buy the LP copy if it wasn't that ugly
Nicely done. Thorough, well explained not not overly wordy. Thank you.
I owned this guitar for 2 yrs. I sold it for a A6 Godin for gigging purposes. Wish I would have never sold it!!!! I used the variax on about 100 demo sessions. The electric guitar sounds are spot on if you eq each model when recording and compressing to control uneven flair sounds. It takes time but it can be done....The sounds are pretty damn close.. I tried for 2 yrs to get real good acoustic sounds with no success. The 12 string is worbly sounding. The jumbo and dreads are really artificial and processed sounding. I really didn't expect the acoustic sounds to be great and I was right. I will purchase another one soon. You can really bring one guitar to a session and get all the electric sounds available. Live you would have to have an all in one pedal board with each bank saved to each guitar sound to get a true Ric, jazzbox, Les or Firebird etc....
excellent demo...your explanations are easy to follow and your playing and technique as on point!
Great demo rep.
Nice to see Jacob got that lycanthropy sorted out.
Great demo.
SOUNDS FANTASTIC! PERFECT INFO 👍🏽🎸ON
The guitar is nice. It is a Yamaha since they have owned Line 6 for a couple of years. No doubt they make quality instruments. It may end up they sell more with Variac on it then Yamaha.
I'm a Luthier. This neck is a perfect copy to the Americsn Strat
What an awesome name
Best Demo !!
Hello, please Is it possible to use it to live write guitar tabs into guitar tabs format (recognizing each string as played) with real notes length and pauses into Logic Pro X 10.4 as if it was a proper MIDI guitar ?
Dont think what you're looking for exists, however, guitar pro admits importing of midi files so you could record midi in logic and then export the midi file and try that?
I know the Fishman Triple Play (wireless MIDI pickup) advertises this feature, although I haven't used one myself.
Such a great idea mate
Mean playing and excellent explanation.
I wish there was a Variax module to which I could plug any of my guitars and then tweak the sounds on the module, not a specific guitar.
This is an interesting idea. Your guitar would need piezo pickups at least though, as this seems to be the "input" into the variax tech. Perhaps even some sort of open source solution could be possible as well as Line 6 would probably never open up their modeling software to the public even though that would open up this tech to a whole universe of possibilities.
Since the signal from your regular guitar is just a mono signal, theres no way a pedal or interface could tell what string you hit, especially if you were playing multiple at the same time. You a special pickup for each string to do this, which is what the variax has.
“Lester” clearly refers to Les Paul.
The 12-string Chime model definitely shows improvement over the model in the first Variax edition. The acoustic version reminds me of my Guild F112.
Question: has Line 6 ever tried emulating the Brian May Red Special’s phase cancelation switching?
In video it says you can do also it with workbench.
The guitar sets up well. As typical most production guitars still need setup. I hear a ton of buzzing I don't know if it's him or the setup. I have 2 of these and both came with the action high. I really like the neck, it's more of a D shape then the traditional C which I've always loved for comfort. The pickups are typical Asian pickups. There ok but a bit weak to me . I buy mine to build into custom Variax guitars and I replace the pups with high quality. I actually think the modeling sounds better the these pups. I have a bunch of the old style Variax. The modeling is the same but the tracking is way better because of the new DSP. I REALLY LIKE THE VARIAX IF YOU SPEND TIME LEARNING IT AND USING THE WORKBENCH you can really make some nice stuff. One of my own favorite is a P bass model. I make stereo guitars where you can use the mag pickups in one amp and the modeling in another
Mark Schuster is there any videos on UA-cam of people doing what your describing ? Making custom variax guitars? I’d like to see someone transplant the variax electronics into a tele or another solid body guitar.
@10:04 Acid trip mode
Hello victor thanks for the video i really liked this variax amazing instrument. I need to ask you some. I bought line 6 spider v 60 watts, can i download artists tones from any spider series and load them in my spider v and will sound ? ? or some spider series tones or some line 6 tones from other amps are not compatible ?? thanks and congratz for the work
odd question what amp was being used?
Does the guitar come with the variax cable included?
How's the latency on the modeled guitars?
I like it
Please make it in Left-handed style also.
Nice
Will this editor that ur using on the Firehawk work the same way with the Helix editor ?
Hey guys! QQ Is there any way to create bass sounds using the workbench? Could I combine the workbench with the POD farm and plug the variax into my UX2 (line6 interface)?
Hi Voctor, Thank you so much for a very detailed explanation of the Line 6 Variax Standard. Question: Does it have a 16 pin out so I can interface it with a Roland GR55 and get more voices?
Can you get these models with a maple fingerboard?
funnyharleyman Only the older JTV series has the option of a maple board.
sort of like a casio watch from the 80s, it does everything imaginable but nothing very well. could be really interesting for ambient music!
If only I wasn't poor
I want this guitar. I don't like the modelling so much as the ability to tune the strings without mucking around with the pegs.
great guitar as long as you dont buy it just for drop d or b for heavy metal as the reviews for that are not that good im guessing thats why he didnt play much heavy drop tunings.
Twelve Foot Ninja use them and go as low as drop D down a whole 'nother octave 💁🏻♂️
Great demo. A string is out of tune
OMG!!!Christiano Ronaldo??
does it has a MIDI output
Is it possible to lower an octave on the first two strings and the rest keep in standard tuning? Making it sound like a bass with the guitar?
It certainly is, you don't even have to plug it into the workbench software anymore to do it. You can add custom tunings straight from the guitar
Stevic did that exact thing in a recent video.
your voice is awesome, not the guitar.
Should have used a line 6 amp
Is this the fastest talking guy in the world?
... No?
like it dont love it
