Wow an 80's truck collecting 80's carts aka Kirks talk about a blast from the past and a very very rare site! Very heartbroken to hear that the truck is no longer in service.... This is one of my favorite videos you have posted!
Awesome video!! One hell of a find for sure, I don't think I've ever seen a "White" Xpeditor CSL before so this was a treat. Loved the take offs, and the growl this truck gave off, I bet it nearly shook the ground at times eh? Enjoyed the manual packing as always, and this truck is puts quite the spin on residential collection for sure. Utah sure has a lot of classics hiding up and around!
Holy freaking shit lol, this truck was amazing, never knew trucks like this did residential. You really got lucky! The growl this truck had really topped it off! The smoke was unbelievable! This hands down has got to be my favorite video from you! Definitely putting this in my favorites, Thank you for sharing this beast with us!
Haha thanks man. Appreciate the comment. Way back in my old video from like 2011 or 12 you can see a video of a truck in Blythe CA which is also a CSL that was collecting carts, but otherwise it's a process not very popular here on UA-cam.
The Cummins L10 engine used here is a "Power Torque" special version, which produces 240 hp @ 2100 rpm and 900 lb-ft of torque @ 1300 rpm. Some applications had this engine mated to the Allison MT654CR 5-speed close-ratio automatic transmission, but I believe both the HT740 and the HT754CR are better matches for the engine's torque rating. Interestingly, both the MT654CR and the HT740 have similar lengths (MT654CR = 36 in. long; HT740 = 37 in. long), as well as torque converter lockup in second and, of course, the torque converters (TC400 series) themselves! How to tell which transmission this rig would have used: 1. if the shift tower reads "R - N - D - 3 - 2 - 1" the transmission is the HT740. 2. but if it reads "R - N - 1-5 - 1-4 - 1-3 - 1-2 - 1" then the transmission is the MT654CR.
Holy fuck. I think this tops the IRL you recently posted. Never would I have imagined this thing runs as fast as it does, and the driver does a nice, speedy job. Awesome video!!
Penguinz0 has reacted to the video and said that the neighborhood got their doors and blinds closed as the beast rolls up and more like the anti Christ pulling up in smug on time I was laughing at the part he said though but he checked out all of the other trucks instead
Whooooaaa!!! Listen to this bloody thing telling the neighbourhood who dominates the area. Talk about some serious character building with this truck, sounds like it gets stronger and stronger by the RPM :P This I one of those garbage trucks where you just can't beat its very throaty and thunderous growl, then of course you've got those thick and distinct puffs of exhaust element. These cylindrical bodies and tailgates are a real sight too, love their kind of uniqueness, especially the fat white rear wheel guards and all that rear overhang. Correct me if I'm wrong, but is this a CSL that has a grabber which can't actually empty commercial containers? Just funny the fact it's a CSL doing residential anyway - you reckon they've had this truck for a while or was bought and modified a bit for this location? I could swear years ago I watched a video showing a truck much like this one and I said there's all that intense revving just to lift a small cart over the top, plus with those big significantly heavier duty looking arms than what's needed :D Apart from hearing this thing get moving between stops and get through some gears, I loved his regular use of gradual throttle increase, kind of like the higher the cart gets the higher the RPM rises, then it drops back to idle quickly when dumped. Love the big levers very visible inside the cab, no joystick action here, I'm sure there isn't much of an auto pack feature on this truck too eh? It's understandable why ASL packers are a bit more suited to this kind of job versus this guy having to stop and wait for the pack cycling here and there. Speaking of packing, I would've loved to have seen a view of that beefy blade running through a cycle from behind the cab - mad vantage point right there..... unloading shot would've gone down quite well too! Awesome job catching this beast on video, a pleasure to watch, sounds like a very lucky catch as well.
Nice video and I live in Texas and the town where I'm living at got a old WhiteGMC like with a round body Pak Mor side loader and want to get on video before the city decide to retire that truck for a new side loader.
@@Trainlover1995 That's a bummer. Do they still run any old, super loud, growling trucks, or is it all newer trucks now? I'd hate to see all the old trucks gone!
Nah, this town has always been carts & 300s. It doesnt even have the locking mechanism on the arm for dumpsters so it's never dumped one a single day in its long life haha
I am a big fan of CSL's considering I am serviced by a company that runs a Mack Granite with a Kann CSL, but your guess as far as an engine is possible, A, Cummins L10, Or Cummins M11 and as one has mentioned possibly Cat 3306. Appreciate the fact that you took time to get footage of these, I would like to see more vids of these bad boys emptying dumpsters,
I do have another video of 2 old CSL's that'll be uploaded down the road. It didnt have that same raspy sound that the Cat 3306 seemed to have, and given the age I think L10 was the go-to Cummins of the time, so that'd still be my guess. Pretty cool that you have a KANN CSL come by your place, nearest one I know of off hand is in southeast NM. Definitely would be neat if you managed to snap a quick video of that truck. Thanks for the comment!
Can't stop listening to this monster! Have any of you gone back and filmed this beast again? Hopefully shifting through the gears too! Let me know ASAP.
Oh. Wow. I'm no CSL fan but this has got to be one of the coolest videos I've ever seen. Great intro shot first off. What an amazing sounding rig and boy does that thing blows smoke too haha I love how you let some of the shots run long after he drove out of view just to hear the noise. 5:10 was a nice clip with the river running through. That 300 clip would've been pretty neat to see, sucks the clip got ruined. So does this truck run only once a week if it's used to service the entire city on Tuesdays? I think Beast is just about as accurate as you can describe this truck haha Amazing find, I'll definitely be watching this again!
Thanks! This is one of those trucks where the sound plays a huge part. In fact I wish I'd recorded a couple seconds longer for a handful of clips haha. I'm assuming it's not used the other days of the week, explaining why they feel no need to get new equipment. Though it is possible that they have twice weekly collections, but I really couldn't say for sure.
GarbageSean Do you not watch the video dude? All the info is there plus in the title. There's some pretty awesome stuff in the video that is a must see so I recommend that you watch that. Otherwise you are definitely missing out on some great stuff
Aaron, you're missing the point. I can't anything, so I have to guess on what I think the truck actually is. So I'll ask you again. What's the chassis, WhiteGMC Xpeditor WX64 or Peterbilt 310? What company is this beast from?
Nomination for best video of 2016 so far? I think so! Holy mother of Impac! Words can't describe how freaking awesome this truck is! The sound of that L10 Cummins is just unbelievable! Runs at a decent speed too! What is the exact year of this truck? WhiteGMC Xpeditor WX64 or Peterbilt 310? Any chance you could get more footage of this truck, especially driving? I want to hear it slip into 4th gear (if it does). Let me know ASAP. Is it straight piped or does it have a muffler?
You might be surprised to know that this arm was initially designed for residential, and is one of the first fully automated arm designs ever made some 50 years ago(with a few changes made to it along the way, most notably that it was originally chain driven). It was later adapted to handle dumpsters and from then on never really saw residential use. With this truck being from the mid-80s, its not hard to imagine why they opted to use this system, as it wasn't terribly old back then. What this truck loses in speed, it more than makes up for in reliability, and is the sole reason this nearly 35 year old truck was still seen on route taking care of business as if it were still brand new. For a small town which only runs their truck one, maybe 2 days a week, its a nice fit. Unfortunately it has since been retired, but not by choice. The engine blew up and they decided that it's served its time lol Now a new Curbtender is said to be handling the routes here in Manti these days.
I would think that for a small town, it would be more appropriate to use a single FL. It could collect the dumpsters, and then get the residential carts with a Curotto Can.
That's essentially exactly what this does. Instead of dumpsters though they have 300 gallon containers in their place which this truck handles with ease. In addition they dont have to fork out 25K for a Curotto can or worry about significantly increased maintenance requirements of a front loader with Curotto. They still do everything with this one truck.
More like 1984 to 1988. As far as I know, this grille was first used in 1984. 1984 was also the first year the Cummins L10-240 "Power Torque" engine was offered.
