    over the last 6 months ive started up a few fish tanks and picked up a few free snails on plants or however they made their way into my tanks. my one had 1 malaysian trumpet snail and i just noticed a few baby snails yesterday, my one other tank i noticed a bladder snail that was tiny and just a few weeks later hes huge and hes the usain bolt of snails, he does laps and its surprising how quick he is. i bought nerite snails for all my tanks and i have them still plus the new friends. ill keep them as long as they dont over take my tanks

      That's awesome! I'm glad you are loving the snails and they are doing well for you. It's always fun getting them as extras with plants too. They are good for the ecosystem.

    I had a snail infestation on a 5 gallon tank a while back from a couple of Mystery snails. It was not nice (with a nice heater they breed like crazy). In any case. Now I have Nerite's my question is, what size tank is best for either snail? I seem to find any gallon seems to work. I had a 20... good.. 10 good.. 5.. good. Is there any or issues that can come from smaller tanks? I have feeding pellets... they don't seem to go for them now.

    I don't like nerite snails because they lay false eggs that are difficult to remove from rocks. I'll go with ramhorn or mystery snails. I guess putting the nerite snails in with no rock display would be good, especially since they eat the cyanobacteria.

    • @h2oplants630
      @h2oplants630  2 роки тому +2

      Agreed. We found that with healthy and stable parameters, they don't lay eggs. If parameter get out of wack then they will lay

      thats the only thing i dont like about my nerites, only 1 tank has some snails that lay eggs literally all over. i can follow lines all ovr the tank leading upto 1 single snail going to town with eggs. all over the glass, wood, rocks literally everywhere and all over

    Hi, what's the difference between an apple snail and a mystery snail? Which snail eats green hair algae? Tnx and God Bless

    • @h2oplants630
      @h2oplants630  2 роки тому +3

      Hey Dennis. So apple snails can be mystery snails but mystery snails cannot be apple snails. It's confusing. The biggest difference is their size. Apple snails get huge where as mystery snails will stay about the size of a golf ball. I've seen some apple snails get to the size of a pool ball.

    Mystery snails available locally in my area including the ones from petsmart do eat plants. They eat a lot of plants! Even healthy ones. I once caught a mystery snail dragging a pothos stem into the water and eating it🤦‍♂️

    • @ezwaters5847
      @ezwaters5847 2 роки тому +2

      @@h2oplants630 I wonder that too. Every lfs and box store (petsmart) maintains that they are mystery snails and will eat plants. I was curious since this conflicts with the internet and bought some from petsmart. They only carry mystery snails, not apple so figured it wouldn't be likely for them to be mislabeled. Sure enough, they ate plants...
      After doing some more reading, it seems mystery snails are a type of apple snail so I suppose it's possible the snails available locally are a slightly different variety.
