Saturn Astra. Europe. Sure, it's a continent but to many Americans it means so much more. From the Euro-Sealer to the Euro-Jet, almost any product seems more exotic, more exciting and somehow better with a little European flair. And the same holds true for automobiles.
Saturn was originally established by General Motors to fight the rising prominence of import brands in the US. So it is ironic that Saturn has pinned its hopes for defending its home turf on a car imported directly from General Motor's key European division, Opel. Irony aside, the Astra brings an added dose of style and excitement to the Saturn lineup, something the brand needs to continue its dramatic turnaround. I own the XR two door and they barely went over how amazing it is! It handles like a dream, brakes are good, and let me tell you, the heated seats are a god send when its cold outside! Many of my friends and family are impressed and love to drive it more then their cars! I would import another one in a heartbeat!
I love my little Astra. It's even silver, so other than my aftermarket rims and low-profile tires, I felt like they were reviewing my exact car xD I just love that even the base model comes with so much standard equipment, like side curtain airbags, auto headlights, and rain-sensing wipers. It's just such a fun car, and after I put an aftermarket stereo, subwoofers, and a few other things into it, I really don't ever plan on getting rid of it.
Would you put some upgrades to the engine?
Just make sure to hide it if the Deceptikons ever come... cus they'll cut it open in half!!!🚘🚗🚘
I've driven an Astra a few times and I can't get over the interior finish and layout, fantastic.
Most police forces in the UK use these LOL
04smallmj No wonder MG rover couldn’t survive…
The Game Show Geek mg is still around. Just all rebadged cars from other companies
Just bought a blue one for 1,200. In great shape. Really came up on this car (:
Hey America if you dont like the Opel Astra then dont imprt it, call it a Saturn then complain about its lack of bluetooth. Over here in Europe its a brilliant car.
Yes ist German engineering. Its an Opel in Europe.
Opel 4ever
and a vauxhall
most important: No key lock issue... like the Cobalt
The Astra has traction - and stability control, and my 2.0Turbo with 170HP/250Nm wich shouldn't be controllable in snow and the wet is actually pretty okey for a small FWD sports coupè. Tires are a huge aspect of grip on snow. In my opinion a 1.8l 138HP is gonna be just fine. Of course it's no Subaru, it's FWD.
excellent and thorough review. thank you!
Excellent video!
that's cause Vauxhall is part of GM's European Division just like Opel. It's why they also have an Opel Astra as well.
All Vauxhalls are rebadged Opels..😉
Chevy Vectra
Opel Astra
Vauxhall Astra
Holden Astra
Saturn Astra
... They are all the same thing, here in Argentina it's called Chevrolet Vectra (and Vectra GT the compact version)
AxlWolf20 buick
@JordanGGGGibbons Tell me about it! But it's a decent little runner. I've got the Vauxhall Astra 1.7cdti and i'd give my left nut for a 6th gear... Ironic considering many of the smaller, less powerful Corsa's of the same year do have a 6th gear.
3:00 Those buttons are confusing even for me (an european).
we test drove on at the dealer, i know fell in love with hondas! now i think the base astra is ugly, but the upper model looks decent
yes i know i have figured this stuff out after i played forza 2
So does the Astra have the classic plastic dent resistant panels (& not able to rust) like other Saturns used to have?
no, it is an imported, re-badged Opel Astra made in Belgium
The video tells you the answer.
yes but not all of the astra's are built in belgium though some are built in germany
The 2-door (GTC) was build in Antwerp Belgium and the 5-door was build in Bochum Germany, Gliwice Poland and Ellesmereport UK.
I DONT GOT A FUCKIN SUNROOF, IVE BEEN HAD
JordanGGGGibbons 😂😂😂
ikr :D
Cute car, cute driver, nice review! :)
@yiben125
i have a Saturn Astra 1.8L DOHC. I'm overall happy with her but I wouldnt mind having abit more power, shes good on turns and very agile though so i'm not going to complain lol
I had the same problem until I, bought a cold air intake,
It made a big difference.
u kno Vauxhall has the Astra in its line of cars too
Did the U.S get station wagons and panel van versions of these, like we get in the U.K badged as Vauxhalls?
No, just the 3 and 5 door hatch.
Its an Opel. German Ingerniering
like the guy said if you get the two door with the bigger engine its pretty manly
I bouhgt mine in May of this year, and 1700 miles in, the horn went out and GM can't get the part for it. So they have my car, and I'm in a rental for about 20 days, and they project I'll be in it for 20 more. So my first GM car becomes my last GM car.
One of the first things I learned after I bought this car is that it is not an American car and parts can be expensive and take a long time to get sometimes.
There was a recall because of this problem. Horn worked when headlights are off and didn't work when headlights are on. The CIM-module had a bad connector on the main-circuit.
They could have been easily fixed it.
Was it that bad? Was considering one but if its not good in snow or rain then it moving down to the bottom of the list
I've had one for nearly 6 years now. I had to put snow tires on it for it to do well in the snow.
It has more than one cup holder, The other two are hiden in the back seat!!
i was stoked when i realized that lol
Loled so much when she said it may confuse American drivers. What are they moron?. All American car's buttons are labeled in English cos as far as Americans are concerned, there is no other language, at least not one worth considering. In Europe there are so many languages spoken in such a small area, the buttons are labeled with icons because changing the buttons in every different country would be unnecessarily expensive. In the Uk is the VAUXHALL Astra, but there's a new one now.
Magnifique astra
Really the Corvette is really a dog. The CTS-V another dog.
The Ford SHO-Fusion are all really nice cars too. We also make the best trucks including the Tundra which is totally made here. BMW are made here, Nissans made here, Toyotas made here, Mazda has plants here......etc.
@UltimaKoecky thats right !!!!!
is this more of a womens car or not?
cheap cheap cheap. no AC on the base model?! bizarre. no wonder saturn went under.
Mine has AC, but it actually makes sense to offer it w/o at a cheaper price. Gives a more affordable option for somebody that isn't concerned about AC.
In europe people don't always need or want the full option package and are completely fine with it.
Also the base engine is just a 1.4 with 90bhp...and this absolutely acceptable.
Funny, when americans complain about low engine outputs, because they can't even use all that power to drive fast. 😂 Every 1.4 90bhp will drive faster in Germany than any 200bhp version in the US will ever experience. 🤣
We call these Vauxhall Astra In uk
In Brazil he calls "Chevy Vectra GT"
@@victor78832 carro bom pra krl. Só com kit padaria se for o modelo 140 CV com o turbo basico vai a 200 e poucos.
Ryan Govêa Top top hein!
I would have rather gotte a Cobalt....this car is not made for rain or snow...only had it for a year and had to get rid of it.
Yeah, I don't think your company is going to "go" a out for you or anyone else.
Yet its built in belgium.
Clearly its called vauxhall astra
@portbalto America can't really build any good cars, haha. They insist on dated technology and "straight-line" performance. Not to mention some rather ghastly designs.
Lol its bin out site 2004 vauxhall atsra
Funny when americans complain about low engine outputs. 🤣
Every base 1.4 Astra with 90bhp here in Germany drives at such high speeds that no horsepower Monster in the US will ever experience. 🤣
I do own a 2001 Opel Vectra B 1.6 with 100bhp...drives easily 210kmh or 130mph....how about you and your horsepower beast? 🤣🤣🤣
Isn't this just a Cobalt hatchback...
Wtf no auxiliary?? Pass
Pussy
saturn is dead LMAO
worst car in it's class!
