Yeah, same here. Origins is my favorite game in the series, but a problem with that and with Inquisition both is that holy cow, I hate coming back to base or leaving what I'm doing or getting stuck in the field with full packs, plus spending hours on my playthrough with inventory management is just not that fun. It was a big issue in Starfield and honestly, in BG3, as well, so having a system that is more upgrade based is a big plus to me. The gear thing isn't that big of an issue to me, considering it's essentially just an improved version of the gear from DA:2. I'd rather just not have to bother with fully customizing each one of my companion's gear like Origins and Inquisition...that got old.

Is there going to be fixed daytime for every location or maybe dynamic change between night and day ? and even better weather changes too? I like this mechanic
15:00 Getting unneeded/useless gear happens in every game where you can get gear. No way to (fully) avoid it. However, this system looks cool because loot seems to be the only part that is randomized, and even then i can imagine dropping useless items that will uprgade over time into something very useful, especially if you want to try different build or different companion at some point. And i bet you may since different enemies require different type attacks to achieve maximum efficiency. Anyway, there is still uprgading stuff through crafting and purchasing so if you want to eliminate the RNG part, you can do it quite easily. Not every game offers that...
It’s funny hearing someone gripe about gear.. when I was playing Nioh 2 .. the amount of gear you get in there and the rng was insane.. after that.. any game I play I just get everything and figure it out later.. this game does feel a little bit more interesting so I may pick it up!!!
I’m glad to see some positivity on the game. I understand some of the blow back like the top surgery stuff but at the same time, I think it’s stupid to downplay a game simply because of that. Imagine judging an entire game based of the character creator
Great, in-depth first impressions preview. Thanks for sharing! Yeah, the gear acquisition and upgrades look like it's going to be frustrating. The movement of Pride demons behave so much like fear/ice/despair demons of DAI ... The big things that my DA fan friends are excited for, though, are the HAIR options, romaning Harding - and Varic ?????! - and exploring Tevinter, the story, and companions. In all my years in this fandom, the hair, companions, and story are what come up the most in various fandom circles.
I remain skeptical. I'll wait for some full reviews once this game is out. It 'could' be good, and there's definitely some things I like out about it. Jury's still out, for now. 🍻
First of at the start around 1m in Where the hell is your Rooks left arm?! And the combat is not for me anymore I loved being the back line keeping the party up helping them do the dmg and setting up combo's for them. I get why they changed it but I honestly hate it. I know most will like it tho. So tough shit for me. I just hope the rest of the game is going to make dealing with this combat something that might be worth it. Cause it's not a team anymore in my eyes they're now just making sure you can carry them.
About the hard to see, I've read that you can disable many of these effects like the arrows and stuff. I've only seen like two videos mention this but everyone else doesn't and complains about those things.
people are interpreting the comments that this is for "modern audiences" to mean it is for anyone not a hetero white male but more and more i am starting to think they mean people with no attention span or patience for nuanced combat that strategically positions characters to optimally use their abilities..... instead it has devolved to button-mashing and being able to process large amounts of information at one time....
11:07 what's this about companions bond? 🤔 I get getting closer with them to unlock some skills that's not new but I don't like hearing you need to focus only on a few?? I always want maximal bond and levelling of all my companions and work hard on that not sure I like this...
So glad i can finally have a character with top surgery scars that truly represents me. This is what Dragon Age should be! Props to them for making a statement.
I thought that was made up , that’s so weird . Who plays a game to see themselves the whole thing is so odd . Fantasy is to escape reality not put yourself in the game . I’ve never seen anyone do this ever .
@@fentina it doesn’t trigger anyone , that’s your insecurity making you feel you need to lash out , I’m all for inclusivity but this has no place in a fantasy game , it doesn’t make sense , Donald Trump, Kamala Harris and any modern political issue has no place in games . You could make a fantasy way to change gender , shoehorning something like this for the ..005% of gamers that might want it , just to turn off large portions of the player base is short sighted and egocentric. It does nothing to further any cause and in fact gives my right wing families members more ammunition to point at “over woke “ nonsense . There is no need for it .
@@wackywarrior001 wtf am I supposed to be insecure about? I'm not complaining about options in a CC. No, there does not need to be a separate game for every CC option. This isn't any more 'shoehorned in' than 'short black hair'. It's an option you can use or not use. Its existence shouldn't evoke this reaction in you... Also how on earth is this a modern day political issue? It could be, if it was an actual plotline in the game...which it is not. It's a CC option. And yes of course inclusivity has a place in fantasy games. Fantasy, sci-fi, any kind of art... they've always been about inclusivity. Inclusivity isn't a political term or agenda... But also a CC option isn't even mainly about inclusivity, it's about the freedom to create a character any way someone wants. Vitiligo and blond hair in a CC don't exist primarily for "representation", they exist for role playing purposes and to give players options.
@@norzza ah, thank you. was hoping you could do that since you cant control your companions anymore. in da:i i just played as one of the companions if i wanted to try another class.
The more I see of the combat the more I think the game would've benefited from having controllable companions we've seen arpgs like the Tales Games and Ys 7,8,9 implement it well.
Most people have said it would have been super overwhelming with how much you have to pay attention to your own character. Plus is a RPG, so it lets you spend more time with your own character
I’ve heard from several people who played the game that they are thankful they don’t have to control their companions. It would’ve been too much micromanaging and detrimental to the flow of battle. They say the pause feature to direct companion strikes was enough to deal with.
@@maiafay that was half the fun dao and dai for me though taking control of the rogue to maximized backstab damage, positioning the mage and archer to fling their spells arrows, having the warrior go right into the thick of it with the shield ability to absorb the damage....
Oh it's that purple rpg game ok. It's got big shoes to fill (Bigger than what's available in the character maker). I'm sure i will eventually get around to playing it. I absolutely loved Origins.
If they were smart with the gear they should have just made it that all the gear you find in the world is just for your character. Then for companion gear, that you buy at vendors. Then you can choose to just invest in the companions you mostly use. Poor choice of having you open chests and be excited to try and have new armor/gear for yourself and instead it's armor for a companion you don't even use. It's a waste of time and space and exploration.
So they want you to pay attention to ground aoe markers, but then fill the screen with flashing lights and particle effects to obscure them. Brilliant design.

Yeahhhhhh... That combo bs is fine for rogues, but why TF couldn't they make them actual buttons rather than making us mash and faceroll across the keyboard?! For mages that's just so, SO immersion breaking!! Where are the memorised spells? Where are the hard earned spells from the schools of magic which are CANNON?! Where are the very recently "confirmed" healing spells?! Why are companions running around all banged up for hours of gameplay when "healing is back in the game"?! If I wanted to play mortal combat, I'd play mortal combat. I play RPG's to choose spells that fit the combat, not faceroll my way through the game... not saying facerolling doesn't' have its place, but that place is NOT a "deep and impactful RPG where choices matter". There are some... SOME... aspects from this week that I'm more convinced about, but that gods awful combat is not one of them 😔 Well, the combat and the fact that the Blight... the terror and instant death sentence of Thedas is now a... Reinvents itself is a nice way is saying, they had no clear plan and just kept trying what could work now once EA took over. Not like how the FF series does it. But sure that’s the nice way to say it.
You mean how the team behind Final Fantasy released a game so utterly terrible that they had to completely remake it from the ground up, only to end up with a game that could be described as tolerable at best? Really sounds like a company that's got its shit together. FF14: A Realm Reborn, in case you were wondering.
It is not that they lack a clear plan, it is more like the leadership changes all the time and the clear plan radically changes. Hopefully BG3 has told bioware leadership that there is still room for the RPG based more around strong characters and a solid enough story.
more like they saw the phenomenal success of elden ring and god of war ragnarok which has, for all intents and purposes, button mashing with rpg elements, and wanted to cash in this was 100% management decision
Last year i was thinking 'thank god, it's a Bioware game, so for once no woke discussion needed. But, I was wrong. It looks terribly woke. Bioware was open-minded, but woke is political, it has a agenda, that's the differece
People using “woke, DEI, or modern audience” unironically and pejoratively are immediate red flags that let me know they’re probably not very smart, absolutely do not know what they are talking about, and are more likely than not outrage tourists coming into a fandom they have no actual previous or current interest in.

Thank you for the review!!
I want the character creator early
so are we able to hide the bow? i was never a fan of it and i feel like it would ruin my assassin look
Get ready to be called a shill lmao
What do you mean that the gear "becomes locked" to a character?
So glad i can finally have a character with top surgery scars that truly represents me. This is what Dragon Age should be! Props to them for making a statement.
Yeah, not a fan of that either but I don’t care what other players do in their games. It’s a waste of time.
I thought that was made up , that’s so weird . Who plays a game to see themselves the whole thing is so odd . Fantasy is to escape reality not put yourself in the game . I’ve never seen anyone do this ever .
It's not a statement, it's another customization option. Imagine being so insecure that a CC having options triggers you.
Vitiligo and blond hair in a CC don't exist primarily for "representation", they exist for role playing purposes and to give players options.
can you change your class during a playthrough?
No, you can respec your skills and try different builds or specialisations but your class in locked in
@@norzza ah, thank you. was hoping you could do that since you cant control your companions anymore. in da:i i just played as one of the companions if i wanted to try another class.
i clicked thinking it was a wolfheart video.
Imagine how far Mr. T could toss that hobbit.
@@maiafay that was half the fun dao and dai for me though
taking control of the rogue to maximized backstab damage, positioning the mage and archer to fling their spells arrows, having the warrior go right into the thick of it with the shield ability to absorb the damage....
Is there finally a mohawk available for humans???
There are 88 hairstyles, There is a mowhawk. Tomorrow's video goes through EVERY option in the character creator.
Best game of all time is coming
I missed this video amongst all the bad hype😢
Are you blind mate the Art style is comical, like a Pixar film, and the combat looks like it was designed for pre schoolers
Its not random gear though right? So eventually it will something you can plan and game for.
So they want you to pay attention to ground aoe markers, but then fill the screen with flashing lights and particle effects to obscure them. Brilliant design.
nice promotional piece. i'm not sure how honest this is. mid level youtubers such as yourself can't afford to be too honest, well, not until the game is released and you know which side to take.
I mean, almost any previewer- large or small- has praised the game. Can't be 100% sure yet but its looking good :)
wouldn't you do the same in his position?
or is it more fun to just cry about how "woke" everything is?
I’m gonna be real, this art style isn’t really doing it for me. The more I see it the less I like it
Did you coment this exact same thing in another video?
@@davidtreece3922 He did
@@davidtreece3922so you read all his comments?🤔🤔🤔
@@mishaprado_97 I just noticed this same comment in another video
@@davidtreece3922I saw a similar comment on Fextralife's video. The first sentence was said a bit differently, but the last sentence was exactly the same 😂
It was from a different username, tho. Dragonball....something
SOME... aspects from this week that I'm more convinced about, but that gods awful combat is not one of them 😔
Well, the combat and the fact that the Blight... the terror and instant death sentence of Thedas is now a... DEBUFF. Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr...
DA left me numb
Hopefully BG3 has told bioware leadership that there is still room for the RPG based more around strong characters and a solid enough story.
more like they saw the phenomenal success of elden ring and god of war ragnarok which has, for all intents and purposes, button mashing with rpg elements, and wanted to cash in
this was 100% management decision
Funny how getting flown out to San Francisco will make someone say nice things about a game.
Combat style and faces are the worst
DEI sh1t game.
Tell me you never played the previous games in the series without telling me you never played the previous games in the series.
@@pematsering4517 obviously you have never played any of the Dragon age games. They always had an element of the unconventional.
@@maiafay I actually did. Unconventional and political is not the same. They have a agenda, and the game is built around that. Very sad
It's like we were all dreaming of a new Dragon Age, but bioware WOKE us up from that dream........
No such thing as woke
@@Kaleb.cornelius13yeap, that hide top surgery scar is not there for what you think it is there for. Just people reaching to make connections of pushing anything.
So, wait, I'm confused, are we mad at the game just because of the top surgery scar character option? Like, Baldur's Gate 3, where you choose your genitalia and pronouns is fine, but top surgery scars is where we draw the line? Idk, just feels like our line in the sand is a bit of a circle.
You people are really subtle about your weirdness, we'll still be enjoying the game 👊
donald trump is going to fix this shit when he gets into office...he'll jail all the bioware developers!
Give me good looking characters I can take interest in and stop with this weird woke thing. Then I might take a look at the game again.
Part me wants this game to have an audience that really enjoys this game… another part of me,purely out of spite, wants it to fail for what we could have had and what they gave us instead lul
I’m not in the habit of having strong opinions about games that aren’t even out yet
Interesting approach
12:02 Can you target farm for a particular gear slot?
I don't believe so. The only way would be buying from the various vendors.
this game used to have grit and dark realism, now both gone. Why? I'll still play it, but at a later time when on sale. It feels like a mobile game, modded to try and emulate the series.
This game never had "dark realism." I played Origins, I know you made that up.
@@SunniestAutumn you clearly didn't play as a female city elf then
@Christina-J.94 Even as a female city elf it was mild. Changing the first 20 mins of a game does not make the entire game dark gritty realistic.
@@rivgacooper5330 how about the deep roads mission and the broodmother/Branka storyline? The golems being enslaved souls? Or the reason Zathrian cursed people for generations? What about the people living in the ghetto being sold as slaves to fund a war? I don't know what you consider dark, but that's dark in my book.
@@SunniestAutumn blood, sex, political intrigue, cutscenes where you literally saw darkspawn slaughtering women and children.....
this was no a pg-13 rpg for teeny boppers that wanted purple haired elves with earrings and leather....
This art style pisses me off so much man geez its gonna be tough playing this and the gear slots seem lazy
Dragon Age turned Pixar
🤐
ohh man i hope this game finds its audience but yeah it started in dark fantasy and now its well this washed out shell of a game i love.
Oct 30 the day Dragon age died
🙄
When i heard there were top surgery scars, I was done. Like for real? We're really gonna PANDER THAT MUCH!? Like good god folks, the level of DEI injection is off the charts.
Love how easily offended some people are. End of the day who cares, is the game and story good is all most gamers care about.
. I think it could break the immersion in a world of magic (not sure why a surgery is needed)
Honest question why when i google the director of dragon age veilguard it pulls up john epler but this dude said he talked to the director in the video and panned to a dude in a dress same thing with matty plus now i totally get all the dei in the game
That’s Corinne Busche. What DEI outside of the character creator.
Why did they do the Asian girl dirty? Why did they uglify her?
They gave her a really odd face shape for sure.
@@theesper7404 She look more like a tiny fairy rather than an Elf. As a tiny little fairy with wings it would have worked. They went out and find the most average looking Asian girl for their political agenda.
I think she’s very cute. Beauty is highly subjective.

@@dragonchr15 lol. Asian players will mod her. Most Asian don't like that look.
ah yes, the top surgery scars "game"
It’s looks like Fortnite
Did you choose a body with "top surgery scar"... I mean WTF... Sh*t like that is what is going to make this game potentially fail. So it's not enough with "pronouns" now.
This f'ing pandering to the lowest common denominator like it's normal is getting out of hand. As soon as I actually start to get interested in the game because combat looks fine I am reminded of sh*t like this. It's like they want to fail.
