Fun fact: Per Eriksson who was a former member of Katatonia back in the early 2010s is actually the lead guitarist for Ghost's live performances/tours.
You should listen to the version on Jimmy Kimmel - Ghoulette's voices are turned up and adds a really good extra layer to the chorus, in some ways better than the album version here. And it was good to see you doing what every Ghost fan does listening to their songs.... smile. A lot.
Love Ghost, was listening to this track, had heard it a few times before, was literally at a traffic stoplight when the lyrics "little sunshine" hit me, as in "not much light, mostly darkness" brilliant wordplay...darker than it seems upon first listens, Tobias is damn good at writing catchy pop/rock melodic hooks with deceptively dark lyrics that have a great cadence
Also the lyrics "you will never, ever walk alone" are actually pretty creepy, merely wanting someone, anyone, by your side becomes never, ever being alone again, the shadow always follows...damn that's good
8:44 Rats isn't the only song that sounds radically different from this Ghost song Their songs "Kiss The Go-Goat" and, "Secular Haze" also sound radically different from this song and "Rats", as they were intended to sound like they were released in the 60's & 70's respectively
This is absolutely about Satan. Little sunshine is a cute way of referring to Lucifer, which means light or dawn-bringer. Mephistopheles is another name for him used in Faust.
For the meaning of the title ... The title of the song is a reference to the British occultist, Aleister Crowley. When Crowley was in court in the 1930s, pursuing a libel case, he was asked by the judge to explain why he called himself "The Beast 666." He replied that the number 666 simply means "sunlight." "You can call me Little Sunshine," he told the judge.
I'm not quite sure that this is totally correct. Mephistopheles is generally understood as an incarnation of Satan with the moniker “Little Sunshine” being a reference to such a being. But Ghost has often several layers of meaning in their lyrics, so the Crowley reference may also be partly correct.
@@henrikvidin I wouldnt be surprised if the Crowley reference was intended, given the album art for Impera, which this song is off of, is based on a famous picture of him
@@AdamStraughan Kaisarion is my favorite from this album. It's Ghost at their most Rush. And it's in a major key which is not normal for them. After that, probably Respite on the Spitalfields, Spillways, Darkness at the Heart of My Love, Hunter's Moon, Griftwood... so the whole album is great. :)
best band in last 15 years......
Try ever

My song of the year 2022 👻 tx for reacting to Ghost 🤟
The title of this song was taken from a qoute from Alistair Crawley
Based on what I'd heard

That makes sense!!
And he’s fucking amazing at it.
As soon as I heard him saying he likes Katatonia I came right to the comments to say Per is Ghost's lead guitarist, but you beat me to it haha.
@@dansantosn I looked later and I think someone else beat me to it as well😂😂
Agreed! His solos are epic

Never have heard this. It's really cool. ❤
Love Ghost. Highly Recommend - Darkness at the Heart of My Love and Cirice.
Hi Adam and thank you, my first time hearing them. Interesting with a smile absolutely ❤

My least favorite song on this amazing album of amazing songs.
