Thank you very much, Uwe Grosse. You turned my despair to joy. My wife and son have been using our Adler. Somehow they got thread jammed under the bobbin holder, and threw the timing way out of adjustment. With your help I was able to get it working again without too much trouble. Now I'm inspired to watch some more of your videos and really get the machine tuned up.
I don’t comment on UA-cam videos but is just just awesome - so well shot and excellent detail. Thank you for making this as I can hopefully now get my machine set up!
Visually, this has to be one of the best adjustment videos I've ever seen. Everything was super-well lit and in perfect focus. It would be interesting someday if you did a video detailing how you setup and film your videos...
Good night and thank you for the precise details of this. I am a repairman also Good luck and continue IMPARTING your knowledge to the world. May God bless you.
Great video. The eerie music is exactly how I feel when anything goes wrong with my machines. BUT the sound of a good running machine and the beautiful stitches is the triumph
Great video, thank you, Uwe! I think my 69-373 is similar, only it’s not a flatbed, but short arm instead. I just understood what perfect timing should look like. Very helpful! 👍🏻
I pretty much watched all your videos even though I do not have these other machines I find it very enjoyable watching. Thank you so much for your time and effort you put into these videos. I have a Adler 67 it's almost time to change the timing belt in the sewing machine maybe you could do a video one day changing the timing belt in a Adler 67. Thank you again much appreciated
Gutentag Uwe, perfect explanation and perfect video instructions!!! Was very very helpfull for my PFAFF 138. My machine is a bit different but this video shows me perfect what the timing for a sewing machine is. Grusse Jan, Niederlande
thanks so much for sharing this video! My Adler 267 timing got messed up the other day and it would have cost me $80/hr to have someone look at it. I watching this video went back to my shop and after quite a bit of fussing....approx. 2 hours!! I finally fixed the problem. Lots of trial and error in the process but am I ever happy I now know exactly what to do! Thanks again!
Hello Uwe, thanks a lot for this super video. My Machine an Adler 67-73 has the same problem. But now with your excellent video its a pleasure to fix it. Again thanks so much. Joachim from France

Thank You. This Video saved my ass. My "old Lady" (Adler 167-69) is running again. Although the build-up is different to the one on the video, in the end it works in the same way. Thank You!
Hi Uwe !I don't know where you are located but no matter, I express it in english.I got a ADLER 67-72 two days ago in a 'lousy condition' and your video helps me a lot to understand the mechanic and the princip of timing the machine!Thank you for that !Have you anything else about the ADLER 67 ?You mentioned the adjustment manual. On the homepage of Duerkopp-Adler there is nothing about these 'old work-horses'.They start with the 267 and this machine is quite different.Would be greate to hear from you in this matter.Best regardsThomas
You are the man! This older alder i have is the same machine and after moving, and the movers DROPPED it, the timing is all messed up! Gonna try everything you showed!
Another great video, the closeup clarity is fantastic. I have a 167 and the hook is hitting the needle and more so in fwd than rev? #18 a little, #22 more. At the end of this you suggest to move the hook bed, do I assume the large gear needs to be loosened and reset to keep the engagement correct. Any input on these issues would be greatly appreciated. Thanks from Ontario for sharing.
Thanks ! first time iv had to retime it since bought machine in Winter '17 ( and i use it daily for cover making) , no idea why went out either - was fine yesterday ! i think its thankfully less complicated then my pfaff 438
good day Uwe, i am cleaning and adjusting a Adler 67gk373 i just purchased. The stitch length adjustment screw and lever do not always react the same. at first the screw would not move independently from the lock lever.
Tks so much for your wonderful video. I opened the bobbin case to clean and when I put it back the walking foot didn't move. How can I adjust this? Tks.
I have a Necchi 958-101 walking foot machine. I have a problem while sewing and that applies to stitches. The stitches are uneven. By no means can't adjust the thread tension because when I sew slowly, it is somewhat fine or more pulls the upper thread and when I sew quickly, then the upper thread pulls the lower one and can be seen on the stitches. I used your videos as a reference to set the timing but again it's not the same machine, so I would ask you if you can tell me what the problem is. I would be very grateful.
Hi Uwe, very nice video that look "universal" and will help everybody with this type of machine, Adler 67, 167 or 467, Pfaff 145, 545 ... they are about the same machines ! Are these videos really shot with your iPhone ? They look incredibly professional, Congratulations and many thanks you for your valuable help. Have a good day from sunny Madrid Spain !
Hello from France ! Unfortunately too away from you. I have an Adler 167 bought 2 years ago. All was perfect, but today sewing a thick part of leather, the machine stopped. Now it doesn't sew at all. I have to fix the hook at the right place. Could you tell me if you have a video explaining how to do ? I know how to open the bottom of the machine but I don't see a gearbox like in this video. Thank you for helping if possible ! Hubert
What needle system are you using in this Adler? My manual says System 134 but other Adler techs tell me 134-35 which is a good 1/4" longer needle. Thank you
It depends on the subclass. The Adler 67 series comes in various subclasses, some use Needle System 134, others use System 134/35 (e.g Adler 67-373). I generally use the needle system that is specified for a particular subclass, which in this case (Adler 67-GK-373, the GK indicates safety clutch option) is Needle System 134/35. The manual you have may be for a different subclass of the Adler 67 series.
@@UweXY thank you! Wow sorry for the delayed response. I do have the 167 gk 373 and the 134/35 is the needle I need. The 134 is too short and causes interference
I replaced my clutch motor with a SewQuiet 6000 from Canada and added a DYI speed reducer with a 7" and a 1 3/4" pulley and it literally sews at a stitch per second or slower if desired
In the manual, in illustration number 9, where can I purchase the bobbin cover that is indicated on the left (51,46,47) I inherited the machine in and mine is missing.
Googling the part number (068-00-178-4) shown in the parts diagram/manual is what I do. For example: www.cutexsewingsupplies.com/products/bobbin-case-cap-068-00-178-4-for-durkopp-adler-industrial-sewing-machine?variant=32221662314549
@@UweXY thank for being so generous with your vast knowledge! How kind of you. My needle is also hitting the case as described by another comment on this thread, and you included a tandy link. The link takes me to the website, but I don't see that thread. Do you have additional info on that subject?
Thank you for this. Seems like every time I change the bobbins I have to fight to get it to pick up the bottom thread. Seems like it pops the safety clutch and after turning it enough by hand, it pops back in. Now I know where to look at to fix things.
Hi, I also have a machine and have everything done as with you, the machine picks up the wire but when I start to suffocate it becomes a chaos down, it is as if the tension of the wire is not on time. Controlling the voltage with the button also does not work, if I put it low or high it stays the same. The thread is 20 and needle 134/140 from schmetz. I use Google Translator because I live in Belgium. Can you find a solution?
@@UweXY Thank you for getting back to me so soon, have you ever worked on a Adler 589A, if so you you give me some pointers on how to fix the arm L so that it fits in the groove of the bobbin case holder? Mine keeps getting stuck and breaking of the tip of my needles. :(
Thanks for the video! What kind of a needle do you use for this machine? I just bought one off of craigslist and it came with a bunch of unlabeled needles. I did some research and ordered a pack of 134 DPx5 needles, but they are quite a bit shorter than the needles that came with the machine. Any ideas?
The Adler 67 manual does specify System 134 needles, so that is the correct type. I don't recommend using needles that arrive unlabeled, there's just no telling what you actually got. Any loose needles not in a clearly labeled package also need to be tossed. Buy brand name needles from makers like Schmetz or Groz-Beckert. Needles are cheap and the wrong one can cause all kinds of grief. You may have to adjust needle bar height to make sure the hook passes the needle at the correct level (about lower third of needle scarf cutout).
It turns out it's a little more complicated than I stated earlier. The Adler 67 uses three different needle systems with different lengths, depending on the subclass. Check out this topic on Leatherworker.net for details: leatherworker.net/forum/topic/80163-needle-bar-hitting-outside-foot-on-adler-67/

Check your safety clutch first. It may have tripped. Your machine won’t sew until you reset the safety clutch.
Absolutely excellent explanation Uwe! Thank you so much! For sure with this video I think I can fix it.. :-)
Can you tell me, my reverse stitch length is shorter than my forward stitch length. I found a video on it but didn't seem to change anything 😕
