What's an example of extractive technology you've experienced in your own life? Tell us below 👇

I want to share some good ideas about what Abraham HIcks said in her seminars, videos... She said people are several times in a vortex or "state of flow" during the day... When they forget of their identity, their importance, their position, but just focus on their job or hobby, without distractions...They are in that state even without realizing it or forcing it. It's an automatic process.
But she said if you want to get in a vortex or flow intentionally, you have to find something "easy" to get there.
Well I was thinking something "easy".... means some easy thought or humble thought or 5-minute exercise, or a 5-minute shower, or making coffee, something that is very easy to think about.
Or I think something "easy" can be also tuning in what you enjoy doing...Some people enjoy doing 10-minute yoga, some enjoy walking in the forest, some enjoy reading articles or listening to music.. And you feel so much passion and inspiration that nothing may distract you. Because heavy topics usually distract the mind. Heavy goals also distract the mind and if you want to start some project you have to start with an easy mind and easy thoughts, not with doubtful thoughts or a perfectionistic attitude.
Maybe it may help you to implement some easy tools that will not be distracting for people but motivating.

Brilliant! The greatest challenge around this "enemy"-extractive technology- is finding the vocabulary and the metaphore that will make it possible to people to identify it and fight it back. Thank you for your great inspiring work!

Thank you for this, I greatly appreciate such important content being created at a level that can be understood by anyone, not just tech experts!!

Glad to hear that it was easy to understand! We put a lot of effort into distilling the core topics down.

I also noticed that I have a problem with attention, yet the curious mind is still passionate.
But I noticed that I focus on content more when I only listen to it like a radio or podcast while doing other hobbies. Maybe listening doesn´t interrupt the mind so much as the visual stuff.
Because the visual movies of the 80s and 90s are much more smooth and calmer than the visual effects used today in videos, movies, commercials, tv programs.
Maybe audio content is not so distracting for the mind, because audio is going in one line..... But watching a screen is more distracting for keeping the attention because you have to focus on so many details of the screen that go in different directions....the size, color, facial expressions, buttons, animals running back and forth, and other distractions, notifications etc.

I like to use language around this like 'invasive technologies'. Extractive is a great word too.

Invasive is also a great descriptor. We often use "insidious," too.

@@CenterforHumaneTechnology nothing screams tech worker like a 30 minute meeting discussing which word to use followed by "we'll circle back to this on thursday"

You guys need to partner with someone like the Lincoln Project (or the tech equivalent thereof). Someone who understands PR. Else this great content will actively get buried.

    • @CenterforHumaneTechnology

We don't believe it's actively getting buried, but we are working to grow our audience on UA-cam. Any support is welcome.

@@CenterforHumaneTechnology Not getting promoted is the same as actively getting buried. You folks of all people know this. Algorithms that select for specific things effectively censor what they don't select. It's a brilliant way on the corporation's part to censor without explicitly calling it that. But the net result is exactly the same.

Maybe you may talk about whether people will seek more short videos.... because, for example, I like long videos if they are about education, philosophy, science, or a podcast.
But for example, when someone makes long videos about cooking or about cute animals, I don't like such long videos for "dopamine" driven videos...I love videos of animals, but the short ones....because it's not educational, so there is no need to do 10-minute videos of one dog. Maybe our mind is programmed that some topics are better in short videos like 1 minute or maximally 4 minutes because the mind gets bored.

  • @alaalfa8839
    @alaalfa8839 2 роки тому

I like some videos on Facebook but they are too long... or there is too much content ín 10-minute video, that it makes me bored.... In one video is100 versions of doing cake, 60 versions of building a house etc. I would be much more inspired with fewer examples of creative ideas, but in a meaningful way. Just to give you options for your own creative mind, not to supply your mind.

Jesus, everything you guys are doing needs to go viral. But it never will. I’m sure there’s active effort to bury this on UA-cam’s part. Y’all need to get a celeb to slap someone and mention this channel.
