This was a RARE success in making a series comeback. Well done production, but lighting rarely strikes twice. Was a nice reunion ep for fans of the original.
I haven’t seen the movie and in the series I loved Steven Cord. Please tell me how well his life turned out. Did he marry someone really nice and did his career go from strength to strength.
Sue Clements Steven was outstanding. I am 60 and watched the series in my teens and recently watched the show all again twice. Enjoyed the 60’s shows. Great acting/story lines. They were ALL great !
Yes I always wanted Steven and Betty stay together, I am glad they made this movie. I am watching episode 216, I really don't know what happened to Rodney and Alison, they had a sad ending.
I just recently finished binge watching the original Peyton Place TV show from the 1960's which I absolutely loved! I guess they decided to change Allison's brother into a sister for story purposes. Ada Jacks and Constance look EXACTLY the same. This was so good. Thanks for posting this movie ax well as the entire show. LOVED IT
Also David Selby was on the Show as well as Dark Shadows. Some say that Collingwood Manor would be the inspiration for Foxworth Hall in Flowers In The Attic that celebrates 45 Years in Publication.
I watched Peyton Place as a teenager with my mom. At 74 I watched it again and I watched this movie! Thank you so much for wrapping up all the loose ends. Beautiful story and so much fun seeing the main characters as they got older and the old clips of when they were younger. Beautiful scenery and music.Hard times and good times…. just like real life!
Thank you so much for posting the entire series of Peyton Place, which i loved when I was younger. I have watched and enjoyed every single episode and finished the last episode last night, then went straight onto this film, which I thought was excellent. I shall be getting withdrawal symptoms now!
Thank you for posting this sequence It brings so many memories, the music score is wonderful. This series from TV and the movie will always be a classic.
Wow, watching this for the second time and I just realized that Rodney told Allison he wanted their first child if it's a girl to name her Allison after her, sends chills down my spine.😢
Just end watching the 514 series & The Next Generation of Peyton Place. Despite some of the mistakes in the movie, I would like to say a big THANK YOU for producing the series. I was only about 8 years old when my mum used to see the show. I am now 61 years old & watched the whole series today. Brings back fond memories & very nostalgic too. ❤️
@@sandrarivers3063I was born in 1966 so it was before my time. I have the physical copy of the book, and I have it on my Amazon Kindle. In her own way Grace Metalious inspired Jacqueline Sussan (Valley Of The Dolls) to write, and then Jacqueline Sussann inspired the late Jackie Collins as well.
Last night I viewed the original...great stuff; today I watched the sequel even better. The writing and acting was superb in both movies; thanks for the upload.
Like several others, I finished watching the original series and then Murder in Peyton Place. I'm pleasantly surprised by 'Next Generation' because it is much better, in my opinion, than Murder In Peyton Place, with more of the original actors and a vibe that's closer to the original series. Kudos to those who managed to bring Peyton Place into the '80s so skillfully!
watched peyton place tv show "back in the day"when I was about 15 yrs old, loved it and everything peyton place, like this movie. its like "family" to me
this great and final installment of Peyton Place aired 32 years ago today. original stars, the beautiful Barbara Parkins, Handsome James Douglas, the lovely DOROTHY Malone, Tim O'Conner the late Ed Nelson, Chris Connelly, ,
The Peyton Place TV series was before my time (although I had often heard of it, mostly negative), but this popped up on my recommended list, so I gave it a go. I expected to ditch it after a few minutes, but I found it thoroughly enjoyable. James Douglas as Steven McCord was a real standout. Also, the flashbacks of Mia Farrow really showed what a unique screen presence she was.
Plus real pleasure to see real actors act very attractive women no tattoos or nose rings nice hair the all dressed like ladies and gentlemen no cursing or F bombs all the time, old TV was the best hope you younger folks can appreciate it times gone by and never will be the same.
Was this filmed in Oregon? The locations remind me of Promise a Halmark TV Movie starring The Late James Garner and James Woods. It was in my opinion one of the best Hallmark Movies ever.
I remember watching Peyton Place when I was a very young girl, didn't understand anything that was going; so glad that I could watch the entire tv series again, been a bit disappointed though, thought it was going to be much longer series. Steven and Betty are definitely my favorites, loved Rodney too and Mr. Peyton even though he was so wicked, loved Ms. Cord.
When Allison said, "Do anybody know me?", it just sent some soft chills through me. Because I thought that was the best answer to explain her disapperance for so long. I thought that was very beautiful esp for her parent's heart. Then I realized that wasn't Allison, but her daughter. So at least they get apart of Allison back.
I was in middle school when my mother was watching the reruns of this series. I used to come home for lunch to watch it with her. The first real soap opera.
Old fashioned glamour on some ladies never dates them. I thought Dorothy Malone was the most attractive woman on Payton Place and Barbara Perkins a close second. I was only 7 but at 63 I have the same opinion.
@@seasonnone8417they showed black & white reruns of Peyton place on some channel .watched with mom .Norman & Rita were the show for me ..Chris Connelly 💙
Great movie & the TV series were entertaining too. My favorites are Allison & Doctor Rossi, but i also liked Martin Peyton & Rachel. Great uploads, took me a whole month to see it all.
Beautifulll movie ( yep, the tears rolled)…in Europe at that ere we had no cable wired television but still the antenna stuff. How higher the antenna how better the emission. People whom lived near the frontier of Holland could see the episodes allready in advance cause of the range of the antenna reception My mother was fond of this serie and everytone talked abouth it in the Streets. Our first television was baught in 1965 and I remembered that the series was played on a saturday ( goosshhh) so long ago. Dr. Rossi was the favorit and the "lady killer" here in Europe. Good old John Beck. He played the good-looking guy who was involved with and I believe married Pam in "Dallas," but then he suffered from a mysterious illness and disappeared, never to return. That is because he never existed. Instead, Pam discovered Bobby in the shower at the end of the "dream season."
great to see Barbara Parkins and James Douglas in their original roles since they were not in Murder In Peyton Place. a dreadful movie. This would have been a great new series. it's a shame it was not sold.
I love how this movie wrapped up the loose ends that the series failed to do. Although Megan and Dana were not half-siblings they were first cousins so that's still illegal in many states. And finally Betty and Steven will be together again.
+Jim Davis One can only be grateful the planned series didn't air. My regret is that I have to watch "Murder at Peyton Place" to see what I missed. It is nice that Betty's old hats were used as shoulder pads to cut expenses in this bomb.
Probably not the case. It was likely James Douglas's real wedding ring (he was married to Dawn Busby for many years until her death in the late 1990s) , and he forgot to take it off during filming. That happens a lot with actors, something I have noticed over the years. For example, David McCallum played a single man on "The Man from U.N.C.L.E.," but he often had his wedding ring on in the early episodes, when he was still married to Jill Ireland.
The way the cast is magicly gathering in the first scene, out of nowhere, the whole band walking like zombies toward the girl is so weird... I feared they were going to dispatch and eat the poor thing alive... And was it so complicated to respect continuity and switch the "next generation" parts, turning simply Bruce Greenwood into Mathew Carson and Deborah Goodrich into Betty's daughter ...? Despite its little flaws, it remains a nice appointment with nostalgia...
This PP new generation is confused. Kelly is the child of Joe and Jill Rossi, not the Carson’s. Jill and Joe took Kelly with them when they left Peyton Place. The Carsons relinquished Kelly to her mother Jill. There is no good reason for Kelly to be living with the Carsons and they’re pretending like she’s their daughter. Then someone’s going to have to explain to me how Alison‘s daughter is a magically the same age as Dana Harrington. Betty didn’t have a child with Steven throughout their marriage, therefore Allison‘s daughter would be older then Betty’s son Dana. Also as someone mentioned above, Steven calls himself Martin Payton‘s illegitimate son. That’s wrong because Steven was Martin Peyton‘s illegitimate grandson. It would’ve been nice if the Writers would’ve kept everything continuous, congruent, and following the same story lines. Although the former writers didn’t seem to keep everything straight either so who knows As a writer I know it’s difficult to keep the timelines and the storylines intact but I certainly hope I do a better job than this
Thank you, SoapsnThings, for posting this movie. I hadn't seen it before. And I loved rewatching the entire Peyton Place series! Re. this movie, however, in addition to 1. ignoring the fact that the Carsons had a son named Matthew; and 2. the fact that Dana couldn't possibly be Steven's son since there was a period of many months when Betty & Rod dated, were married, Rod was paralyzed, and they moved to Boston for Rod to attend college ... all while Betty was NOT pregnant; here are two equally significant inconsistencies: 3. The necklace that Megan had that supposedly was with Allison's effects in the hospital in Boston could not have been with her because Rachel Welles had the necklace when she was introduced to the series. Rachel's aunt's husband had something to do with Allison's disappearance, and that's how Rachel came to have the necklace. 4. If Allison had been found in Stoneham (not that far away, apparently, for Steven to drive there and back within a day), then the Carsons would have been notified since there was a huge ongoing search for her, so finding a girl beaten and raped would have caused the authorities to let them know they should check if this was their daughter. There is also one other possibility that seems to be overlooked: Maybe Allison was not pregnant with Rodney Harrington's child when she left, and maybe Megan is the biological daughter of whomever raped Allison. It seems like the directors and producers did not do their due diligence. I wonder if the actors noticed these inconsistencies???
I don't know if ryan and mia thought were too good for this or not. Maybe. I would understand it from ryan but Mia is not all that big as an actress. Those movies with woody Allen were crappy. And love story was a huge blockbuster. No one should ever compare love story to crappy rosemary s baby. I doubt ryan. Would ever like to work with mia in the big screen
i wish they make a new version.I'm sure people would watch who remember good TV instead of this reality nonsense.watched Peyton place with my mom back in the day.❤
I would like to see a good writer do that. The black and white ones were the very best. Television has gotten way too immoral. Awful language, sex, and glamour.
General Hospital has been on since 1963 and it doesn't have the ratings it used to. We lost all the good, long term soaps a while ago. Young and Restless and Bold and Beautiful are on but they aren't as old. I love seeing Ruth Warrick aka Phoebe Tyler from AMC again.
Also Glynn Turman and Ruby Dee worked on The 1960's version as well. Glynn and Ruby were in the first Broadway Play that was written by an African American Woman. Ruby replaced Cicely Tyson on Guiding Light. Glynn did Cooley High that was the inspiration for Boyz To Men's Debut Album Cooleyhighharmony and the Song It's So Hard To Say Goodbye To Yesterday was co written by Alfonso "Fonce" Mizell who is also related to The Ronettes and Jam Master Jay of Run DMC. I remember Ruth Warrick taking time off from All My Children to do this show. Ruth had such a history on Soaps. Playing an evil Nurse of guiding light then aunt edith hughes on As The World Turns.
Now, how can everyone first assume this is Alison if Alison died in Murder in Peyton Place with Rodney. Rita and Norman was not together they were married to other people. SMH
I wish the writers would of had it tie in with the original series more. Like, where's Mathew, the son of Constance and Elliott? Is Kelly the daughter of Jill that Jill once gave to the Carsons and then took back...did she eventually give her back or what? There is no way that Betty was pregnant when she divorced Steven. Way too many months went by on the original series for her not to have had that baby back then. LOL! I could go on and on. Anywhoooo...just wish they would have cleaned up some loose ends that they left hanging at the end of the original series instead of making more loose ends and lose beginnings from all of the discrepancies.
don't know what the big revelation here was all about: it was known on ''Return to Peyton Place'' that Steven was Peyton's father..that was the other thing: his name changed from Peyton to Dana - with Rodney believed to be his father..ah, the discrepancies and inconsistencies between this, the original and daytime series and MIPP are enough to keep anyone busy!.....
Betty was one of my favorite characters from the entire (original) series. My 2nd favorite was old Martin Peyton. Next up, was Rodney. At least for me.
Thanks for sharing this. I’ve been watching the original from the beginning remembering from my childhood. But this was disappointing. Where was Mathew Carson? Kelly was the name of Jill and Joes baby. And no mention of Marsha, Dr. Rossi’s fiancé. Or how the trial turned out. And Betty hid the fact that Steven fathered her child? A little too far fetched for me, but thanks again for sharing.
SoapNthings Thank you thank you thank you! Three more episodes and this watch will be the grand finale. Through all the grainey black and whites to the "in color", the bad acting, bad characters, good characters, hated characters, bad writing, and heavy drama, great scenery and great clothes, and yes, the fur hats, I love them and would wear them and gloves in a Boston minute if they came back in fashion ad of course the cars. I was too young to watch this, but I believe my Mom and my aunt would stop everything when their "story" came on. Did I say thank you? Did I mention I live in Boston?
+Sharona S LOL! Yes, after all is said & done, there were a lot of good and bad (storylines, styles, etc.) in the series. Loved the nostalgic setting, the old cars, clothes and hairstyles as well. Glad you're looking forward to watching. I might just re-watch the entire series again in another year or so. Was too young to watch it, too, when it came out, having been just a baby, but I got to watch it a few years back and just loved it.
There's no more shows. Is this it? When Allison left home she was NOt going to marry Rod who had asked her, She said no and she broke away from the hospital knowing she was pregnant with Rod's child. She had a break down before she left. This show doesn't exactly mached up, not sure why, but it doesn't. And Dana looks just like Rob, not Steven with Dark hair, Betty has dark hair too. So how does 2 dark haried people have a blond haired kids that keeps his Blond hair that long and till that age in college. Megan looks like allison but has more of Rod's eyes. She's a got fit for her parents. And actually, Dana is a good fit for having Rod as his father. Dana looks like Rod.
They changed a number of things for the TV series. Gone was Selena, and a few other tweaks being made in the characters, etc. One noticeable change was having Rodney & Norman related (as brothers), whereas in the book/movie, they weren't related.
SoapsNthings Selena's story line was much more interesting. All I got out of Allison was that she was whiney. BTW, which of the characters on the series was the red haired kid played by Russ Tamblyn in the movie?
moorek1967 in the original movie. Russ Tamblyn played Norman Page and also in the book. In the original tv series the readers made Norman Rodney Harrington's younger brother.
This is so Bad it's not even Good. The Writers are skirting the edge of Soft Porn, which cuts against the original series from the 60s. And Stephen is now the Town Drunk? Come on. Further blunders with the script has Stephen saying he's the 'illegitimate son of Martin Peyton." Excuse me, he was the Grandson, the product of Martin's spoiled daughter and her art teacher. The guy who plays Betty's son is one of the worst actors I've come across in years, or is it just the poorly written script? Watching this will ruin your memories of the classic series.
This was a RARE success in making a series comeback. Well done production, but lighting rarely strikes twice. Was a nice reunion ep for fans of the original.

Although the former writers didn’t seem to keep everything straight either so who knows
As a writer I know it’s difficult to keep the timelines and the storylines intact but I certainly hope I do a better job than this
The flashbacks are beautiful!
😍
Who remembers the 1957 movie "Peyton Place" . . . so much more touching and way better than this one here . . .
True, Peyton Place so much better.
But if they do one more peyton place movie right now Mia farrow. And ryan o neal would return this time around.
Peyton place were barbara parkins Mia farrow and ryan o neal
I don't know if ryan and mia thought were too good for this or not. Maybe. I would understand it from ryan but Mia is not all that big as an actress. Those movies with woody Allen were crappy. And love story was a huge blockbuster. No one should ever compare love story to crappy rosemary s baby. I doubt ryan. Would ever like to work with mia in the big screen
Must find that! More Peyton place! Yippee!
Well, so much for "Murder on Peyton Place." Rod and Allison got bumped off in that movie.
I STILL have a crush on Stephen Cord.
❤
Podrian traducirla al español, asi podria mirarla, soy fans de esta mini serie de los 60 y 70😀
John Beck always seems to be in a towel at some point. LOL!!!
MARTIN GAVE STEVEN THE HOUSE. HE IS A LAWYER. WHY IS HE POOR?
Maybe he drank his money away?
Nooooooo! Steven is "the town drunk." That's wrong!!
WHY IS HE?
Betty ruined him.
Didn't Constance and Eliot have a son named Mathew? What happened to Rodney?
That's some world where even the poor homeless girl dresses nicely.
moorek1967
I’ve found some pretty sharp well made clothes at Out Of The Closet & The Salvation Army.
i wish they make a new version.I'm sure people would watch who remember good TV instead of this reality nonsense.watched Peyton place with my mom back in the day.❤
THE PROBLEM IS ALL THE OLDER PARENTS HAVE DIED. IT WOULD BE A WHOLE NEW CAST.
I would like to see a good writer do that. The black and white ones were the very best. Television has gotten way too immoral. Awful language, sex, and glamour.
Ryan s sons Griffin and Redmond look a lot like him during his peyton place days
No. No more versions, besides most of the original cast is decreased I'm sure . Unless they make a 3rd generation.
This would have been a hit!!!😂
Am I able to watch the daytime
Return to Peyton’s place anywhere? Has anyone seen it?
Now, how can everyone first assume this is Alison if Alison died in Murder in Peyton Place with Rodney. Rita and Norman was not together they were married to other people. SMH
Cut the dramatics, Connie (re: fainting in the prologue). She doesn’t look *that* much like Allison.
If someone put their mind to it, Peyton Place could become an American CORONATION STREET
That is how it began. They wanted to make their own version of Coronation Street, so Peyton Place was born.
Stephen the father! Gotta love that!
don't know what the big revelation here was all about: it was known on ''Return to Peyton Place'' that Steven was Peyton's father..that was the other thing: his name changed from Peyton to Dana - with Rodney believed to be his father..ah, the discrepancies and inconsistencies between this, the original and daytime series and MIPP are enough to keep anyone busy!.....
My, but the son of Rodney is a fast mover!
HE LIKES MEGAN.
Dana turned out to be Steven's son, not Rodney's.
@@triciajohansen9295 YES. IT IS GOOD.
Barbara Parkins was Peyton Place
Betty was one of my favorite characters from the entire (original) series. My 2nd favorite was old Martin Peyton. Next up, was Rodney. At least for me.
Betty was the "Straw that stirs the drink."
I watched over 200 episodes because of Barbara Parkins, she made it sparkle.
I'm confused as well trying to put the pieces together as to where did Kelly came from and what happened to Matthew.
Oh yes oh yes oh yes !!!
All of their lives were so intertwined!
Allison was killed in 'Murder in Peyton Place' in the 1970's. How many times does she die?
Wow! Look at all that grey hair!
Wow, everyone aged except Barbara Parkins and Ruth Warrick!
There's no more shows. Is this it? When Allison left home she was NOt going to marry
Rod who had asked her, She said no and she broke away from the hospital knowing she was pregnant with Rod's child.
And in the TV show the child Elliott and Constance have is a boy, not a girl.
Dana Preston they are Actors!!!🙄
Don't forget Rod and Steven were half brothers and their mother was a blonde.
I loved the flashbacks scene with Mia and ryan as allison and rodney.
Love Bruce Greenwood. Great actor.
I never saw the tv series, but the original movie. I wonder what kind of story line they would have given Selena and if she didn't lose the baby.
They changed a number of things for the TV series. Gone was Selena, and a few other tweaks being made in the characters, etc. One noticeable change was having Rodney & Norman related (as brothers), whereas in the book/movie, they weren't related.
SoapsNthings
Selena's story line was much more interesting.
MIKE ROSSI WAS FREED EVIDENTLY. WHAT HAPPENED TO HIS FIANCEE
I really liked Barbara Rush. I was hoping they would get married before the last TV Show aired.
No continuity from the 1975 film though. That film must have been a dream sequence like Bobby coming out of the shower lol.
Dorothy Malone doesn't seem to age at all.
what happened to Ryan Oneil?
