Here is a quote from Angelina (7y) from an interview with TV2 after her Auditions NTG 2014. "The reason I chose this song is completely random. I love jazz, but" Gloomy Sunday "was random. It was a night I could not sleep and my mother was stressed that I was awake long after midnight. Then I borrowed my mom's iPad where I wanted to listen to jazz on UA-cam before I fell asleep. Then came a picture of a beautiful lady screaming at the sky and with her eyes closed. I heard the song "Gloomy Sunday" that night and then I had to hear it every day. I love the melody. I understood well what the text was about because I know English well. Every time I sang it I felt something special about it, it's hard to explain in words. When I sang it for mom, she said that this song is nice, but that it was incredibly sad song. " ♥👣👸🏻🎷
In a interview after this performance Angelina's mom was asked why she was crying during her performance?? Were they happy tears??
Mom said; " They were happy tears but they were also sad tears because I know I just lost my daughter to the world. ♥👣👸🏻🎷
Gloomy Sunday.
You'll notice the last judge (the one with his mouth open) asked her if she knew what the song was about. I believe he was asking to see if she was aware of the history of the song. That's because 'Gloomy Sunday' is known to history as 'The Hungarian Suicide Song' and was banned in parts of Europe during WWI because many believed the song had led to a rash of suicides in the population. Angelina, unaware of this at the time, I'm sure, simply replied Yes, it's about a sad Sunday and I think the judge was pleased to realize she had a simple child's view of the song and it's meaning. Thus the comment in essence Yes I could feel that sad sunday. Amazing Angelina would start her career with such a controversial song. I'm guessing she has since learned the history and it would be interesting to hear what she would think about it today. Color me curious. ♥👣👸🏻

As an aside. Some person commented on a different reaction of this song that when her mom was asked if she was crying in that one scene because she was happy, her mom said it was a sad happiness, because she knew at that moment that her daughter was no longer hers exclusively; the world now claimed her too.

I noticed how the judges were so gobsmacked by what they just witnessed that they weren't quite ready to stand up! They were still trying to process how a 7 year old child could sing such a classic song by Billie Holiday, and not show ANY signs of being nervous in front of the crowd and the TV cameras! This was the first video I watched after watching her performance of Queen's "Bohemian Rhapsody" on America's Got Talent when she was 13 years old. Angelina has said that, if there wasn't a Billie Holiday, there would be no Angelina Jordan.
I love it, how cool she throws back her hair over her shoulder, just before she starts singing. Like a real 'pro'.

In all these years I have listened to she thousands of times in hundreds of splendid interpretations and yet every time I see this first performance of hers at the age of 7, it makes me move again, like the first time, with that wonderful concentration of humility, simplicity, candor, sympathy and talent. 💛🧡❤

She really does. She has captured the phrasing perfectly.
I remember my sister showing me this a couple of days after her performance. We have grown up listening to Billie Holliday, just like AJ, and we were floored! I know you like to go into these blind, but I recommend you do some background research to the songs she covers. She has a way of creating renditions that captures the essence in a unique way, especially with her arrangement.

Matey, you are absolutely right, I thought the exact same, when she thumbed up and the flicked her her back, I absolutely knew about her confidence, it stood out a mile. Then I knew that we where in for something special. And that's the truth.
ppp When Angelina flicks her hair back over her right shoulder, she steeling herself and silently signalling to the audience: "Now I'm about to do something special." Another good example is her crescendo towards the end of Feelin' Good.
Composure? I'd say! Here she is on live nationwide TV (in Norway), in front of a live audience and four judges (who will determine if she continues on the show), and she talks to Omer Bhatti (the judge welcoming her) like she's a professional with decades of experience (certainly NOT like any seven-year-old I know)! And she knows exactly what she wants to be: a superstar! And she'll very likely be there before she age 20 (maybe before age 18, depending on how her new album does!).
When she said she wanted to be a superstar, it wasn't a wish - it was a plan. And she was about to make the first move.

It's one of the nicest video's I have ever seen reacting to this moment when Angelina said hello to the world and it's people for the first time. Btw, you are a COUNTRY GUY and you haver to hear her sing 'Crazy'. Hint: Let's just say wherever Patsy's spirit is, it's dancing in the clouds every time Angelina sings the song she made America's favorite of all time. It is one of Angelina's favorite songs and there are many versions of her singing it on you tube. It you would like to skip forward a bit to when she was 16 (last year) she recorded a short tik tok version of the song which will blow your mind. After that, you can find one of her singing with a band or another one with just a guitar player. Is she special? You hit it right on the head. The poise she exhibits at such an early age is "crazy' but when you get to know more about her and what her mission is in life things become clearer. You will not believe what I am about to tell you. There is a video of her singing parts of a Whitney Houston song, in bed, at 1 and 1/2 years old, with a microphone! And, you know what, she exhibited poise at that exact moment, too ! What's beyond special? Whatever it is, that's who she is.

She performed 4 songs on Norway’s Got Talent. Gloomy Sunday was her audition song. Next is I’m a Fool To Want You (a capella), Bang Bang in the semi finals then Summertime which was her winning performance.
I think she was the youngest winner of a Got Talent competition.

This is the beginning for Angelina, her career literally started with this song.
Something off with the volume. When the video was playing I could see you were saying something but couldn't hear you. Every little bit a burst of sound that lasted 1-2 sec then nothing. When you paused the video your voice was clearly heard.
I know I had a few mic hiccups, but I do believe it is fixed now.

Travis, the young gentleman talking to her, is Omer Bahti, the protege of a certain Michael Jackson, and Michaels kid see him as their older brother. To this very day Omer is a fast friend to Angelina and her family, he also introdused her to the Jacksons.

I listened to Angelina perform this song several times. It was amazing. But, not my favorite NGT performance. Then I went and listened to Billie Holiday. It was tears... It was only then that I truly understood what I was watching. The judges understood. That's why they were in tears or sitting there with their mouths open. She's performed this magic countless times over the years. She touches people through her music in ways I've never seen from another artists. As a young child she would wonder why people would cry when she sang. Her Mom explained they were happy tears. I suspect that, even then, she understood it was more than that... When she was 12 she sang a series of songs accompanied by guitarist, Ivan Mendez. These took place at Grandma's house. They were completely unrehearst. AJ would download the lyrics, Ivan would practice a few cords and then it was "follow my lead". So, when she sings, it's the first time he's heard her perform these songs. To watch his face and feel his emotions, is to understand a little bit the effect Angelina has on us. She truly special... @@bockviken Absolutely. Egil is a close friend who worked with Angelina for years. He was invaluable to her musical development. I only mention Ivan because of his emotional response to her performances. Egil was like family and knew Angelina's talent. Ivan, on the other hand, was only contacted by her uncle through mutual acquaintances just before she moved to LA. He didn’t know Angelina. He had never heard of her. So, he wasn't ready for her magic. We listen to AJ on UA-cam. But, imagine what it would be like to sit next to her and listen to her sing for the first time. Ivan is an experienced singer and musician. (He was 25 when he played with AJ.) But, he never had and probably never will again play with a singer of her talent and emotional projection... These little episodes give all of us the opportunity to visualize and better appreciate the power and magic of music in the hands of a once in a liftime artist.

You are right I have been following her for 3.5 years now, it is like a search I need it every day and have to hear your voice, it is just a lot of fun to watch the reactors and your facial tubing that you have rediscovered. Incidentally, it has a healing effect on me, I always feel good after a dose of AJ and soon everyone in the world will see it when she explodes in the mainstreet and she will be the best singer in the world

I saw it on podcast day was happening and I was a blow the way but I know I’ve been following her since she was one and a half singing jazz. Now she’s 17 and on our way to become a superstar. She was just released another out a song called love don’t let me go. It’s number one on Spotify. It’s been reviewed around the world many different countries.
I reviewed it the four days ago his gorgeous song she is a beautiful young lady now 6 foot tall and her voice is bigger than that. She saw me in public records when she was 14 and still with them and they’re very happy to get a very prestigious country company they say only the best of the best I
