She was 7 here, and 13 for "Bohemian Rhapsody". Those slides are Billie Holiday's trademark, and Angelina used to sing along with her grandmother's jazz records. To see her at 9, watch the black and white video of "I Put A Spell On You". That one is much different, and was influenced by the original Screamin' Jay Hawkins version.

Her voice is immature but the way she uses her child’s voice is like she has the experience of an adult. She is able to communicate the emotions which is what is so shocking from 7 year old. As she grows into a young woman her voice only get better.

I'm 99.9% sure Angelina is 8 in "I Put a Spell On You". We can see the progress of her teeth coming in at 7 in "Gloomy Sunday" and then when she's 8 singing "Summertime". Her teeth haven't progressed much more in "Spell". It's funny, when "Spell" first came out the "internet fact" was that she was 6, which is clearly not true - the teeth don't lie - but it took years for that to fade, and I'm sure it'll crop up when Peter reacts to that.
This was her first audition for NGT, she was 7. Half way through the competition she had a birthday and turned 8.

@@jorgemartins3969 She was 7 and turned 8. AGT producers had her say she won when she was 7 (which was incorrect) in order for her to correctly say " I'm 13 (at this time)". This is all because the performance taping was done in 2019, but the broadcast wasn't until 2020 and she had turned 14.

This song at age 7 was the launch of Angelina to the public. She saw an amazing growth in her voice from 7 to 8 within the Norway's Got Talent show. Her jaw dropping performance of "I Put A Spell On You" at age 9 yrs 2 mths is the most requested song to reactors. You would have a lot to analyze.
In IPASOY, Angelina transitions through so many emotional states; nearly every phrase has a different vocal inflection/voice. Also, her breath control is very developed, singing 14 seconds on two separate phrases. (To my uneducated observation, she carries on a long time.)
Next for Angelina, who is 17 now: I Put a Spell on You-she was 9, and this is remarkable. She has been arranging the music she sings since a child. Second song: A Million Miles, she’s 15 here. She wrote this song about her granddad.
I think this was the first song published after finally signing a contract at 14. Something she avoided doing for many years, and her contract gives her incredible amount of control. Amazing.

In all these years I have listened to she thousands of times in hundreds of splendid interpretations and yet every time I see this first performance of hers at the age of 7, it makes me move again, like the first time, with that wonderful concentration of humility, simplicity, candor , sympathy and talent. 💛🧡❤

Angelina at 7 was a marvel. Angelina at 17 has now taken it to another level. I have had the good fortune to listen to her new song on loop for the last 4 hours, and I truly have no words to properly describe how good it is. I'm pretty sure all her fans are going to be blown away when they get to hear it.
Nice reaction Peter. She is technically a contralto. her observed range from the videos that are currently available is a low of C#3 (How Great thou Art), to a high of G#5 (Love on the Brain). Also - she doesn't just "mimic" other artists. By the time she performed this song, she had been studying the jazz greats for 4 years multiple hours every day as she listened to youtube videos of Billie Holliday, Etta James, Ella Fitzgerald, Screamin J Hawkins, Louis Armstrong, Dina Washington and many more. To her, this is just how music should sound. It comes naturally to her because of the music she has been listening to for years. The more of her performances you watch the more you will come to understand why she has earned the nickname of "The girl with 1000 voices", among others. The tone of her vocals changes and adapts to the song she is singing as she pulls from all of the various vocal influences she has grown up with. Her current sound at the age of 17 is distinctly her own.

There is a video posted where someone mixed this performance with Billie Holiday’s, and it’s uncanny how almost exactly they sound. Holiday does all of those slides, it was one of her trademarks. Angelina is only 7 years old here, and she says that at the age of 1 1/2 she began singing Jazz, lol, while most kids are singing Disney.
Peter, thank you so very much for returning to analyze Angelina Jordan again. While we fully understand why you skipped to when Angelina starts singing on the video, since with the majority of videos from talent shows you won't learn too much. Angelina is completely unique and if you had watched the introduction, you would have been educated in many ways about Angelina and also that she was 7 years old for this audition. A large percentage of Angelina videos have her waving and saying goodbye in her young voice after hugging our souls with her remarkable deep, soulful voice, so we appreciate reactors playing the entire video.

At age 6, while traveling in the Middle East with her mother and grandmother, Angelina noticed a girl around her age standing on the side of the road, asking people to step on her bathroom scale to be weighed in hopes of getting some money. Angelina took off her shoes so as to not get the scale dirty and stepped on the scale many times to make the girl feel better. Angelina befriends the girl who was not wearing shoes and has scars on her feet, and learns she is an orphan. The orphan girl tells Angelina how beautiful she thinks her shoes are.
Angelina says her shoes don’t fit her well and she wants to give her shoes to the orphan girl who thanks Angelina for giving her the shoes.
Angelina asked the girl what she wanted to be when she grew up and the girl replied, “I want to become a doctor, but that will never happen since I have no parents and I have siblings so I have to do whatever is necessary for us to survive.” Angelina told the girl to never give up on her dreams. The poor girl asked Angelina what she wanted to be when she grew up and Angelina replied that she wanted to sing for the whole world. The poor girl said she would pray every day so Angelina’s dream would come true.
Angelina still says she thinks of that homeless girl every day and has always performed barefoot to remind her of all the children who are less fortunate. At age 9, she became the youngest published author in Norway’s history by writing a book about this encounter in the Middle East. The rhapsody was age 13 and this is age 7, born Jan 10, 2006, not that is the most important aspect of her performances but a factor none-the-less.
As she sings, you can see the gaps where her teeth are going to version 2.0.
She says she never feels nervious, she is just doing what she loves and it shows.
If you are not familiar with Billies' version of this song, I highly recommend you take the time to listen to it and compare, much of what does not make sense in this presentation is, in fact, part of Billie's version.

Whoops - you didn't listen to her introduction, where she replied she was, "Seven." This was her first time in public, although there are about 5 videos made earlier at 6 and 7 years old in studio at her after-school music academy. Those recordings, particularly, "I Who Have Nothing," is worth a gander. She was trained in music theory and arrangements, piano, flute, and violin, and later picked up guitar. No attempt was ever made to train her vocally for fear it would destroy her natural and wonderful voice. She listened to thousands of recordings from jazz artists, sometimes on repeat, from age 3 to 7, first from her grandmother's record collection, and later from UA-cam. She was born on January 10, 2006, in case you need to pinpoint her age. Beware, however, that many videos were not posted until a year after they were made. In April of 2018, when she was 12, she received her Neumann microphone which improved the recording quality of all her songs thereafter.
America's Got Talent - The Champions I was recorded in the fall of 2019 when Angelina was 13, but not aired until the following Winter when she was 14.
You've made some good points on healthy singing techniques for children. It's true that many children push too hard, although they don't have the capacity yet to tackle certain songs.
Many other commentors have already said exactly what I was thinking, but I'd still like to add my name to the list. Angelina is only seven here, and by the time she was nine and two months, she had developed exponentially. I doubt if there's ever been a singer who advanced so quickly. It's all very apparent in her performance (and arrangement) of "I Put a Spell On You." There is so much to comment about in this performance that I think you will be able to enjoy it immensely, and maybe even be challenged to discern all the complexities of her techniques. Perhaps one of the most astounding performance was of her at 9 years and 2 months old, singing what many say is a masterpiece cover of Screamin Jay Hawkins 1956 Jazz hit, "I Put a Spell on You." She's arranged her cover to properly honor Jay, as you can tell when she holds up the candle with his face on it. It can be found on one of her channels and is filmed in black and white. After you watch what she put into this one, you will catch a fair inkling of what she is capable of. The video has been viewed over 10 million times from her channel and many, many more times on reactor channels. Next to the AGT performance, this song was the next most watched performance.
I think you confused the highly recommended Iconic music video, I Put A Spell On You (B&W version), when she was 9, with this 7 yo audition for NGT. This was her introduction to the World which went viral followed by 3 more performances, each better than the one before

You have probably been requested to listen to I put a spell on you by Scremin' Jay Hawkins - that is a song with some serious passion, she sang that age 9 (7 in this song). You will probably think that it is not healthy to do it as she did, but it was like a concept performance, a smoother yet still powerful version was quickly developed for her live performances. Welcome to the Angelina rabbit hole! You will find she is a vocal chameleon performing many different styles. You can start when she was even younger with "I Who Have Nothing", then finish her Norways Got Talent other 3 performances. I already see some good suggestions here. She exploded @ age 10 with many stunning performances. I have so many favorites there are too many to list here. She will be releasing her first "official professional" performance tomorrow 5/5!

The BBC banned Billie Holiday's version of the song from being broadcast, as being detrimental to wartime morale, but allowed performances of instrumental versions. Angelina, even at this age, is NOT into flash. As you also noted her sliding is PURPOSEFUL, nothing she does is not purposely her choice. Her vibrato is unequaled, love your reaction/analysis!
Her semi final number she sings Nancy Sinatras BANG BANG and its the definitive version bacause of the synchronicity of her voice , the image of a little girl in white with flowers in her hair and the lyrics. "I was 5 and he was 6". In the final she sang SUMMERTIME

Great one, Peter! To see her higher range I'd recommend checking out her performance of I Have Nothing, which is also a more recent one. However, she's clearly not a power singer, so don't expect So Hyang heights or anything. Her strength is her soulfulness and the ability to make you feel each syllable that comes out of her mouth. And for me personally, her riffs are the cherry on top!
AJ doesn't cover many artists. She channels them with emotional integrity. Billie, Ella, Sarah Vaughn, Shirley Bassey, Etta James, Frank Sinatra, Elvis, John Legend, Whitney Houston, Adele. The list goes on and on as a child and now at 17 she is bringing her own style to the fore. No flash, just what the song requires. But as she progressed: need some belts sure no problem. Need whistle tones, sure no problem. Vocal fry. Behind the beat. Rasp. Breathy onset. Bluesy 1/3 tone slides into the notes. Eastern european mellismas. Blues runs. She has so many vocal techniques in her bag of tricks, but always in the service of the song. Never just for show . She is so fascinating to hear and move your soul.

You got a bit of the information wrong. This was Angelina’s first real exposure to the world. It’s her initial audition for Norways Got Talent. She was 7 here, and yes, she’s channeling her muse, Billie Holiday. She won NGT against all comers-not just children-and her own style increasingly got infused into her next three performances. The reason, I guess, you thought she might be 9 is that you probably got a lot of requests to watch Angelina at 9 with her own arrangement of I Put a Spell on You.
For I Put a Spell on You, she’s singing live with a great jazz/blues band behind her. It just is one of the most amazing performances you might ever see-Angelina completely controlling the session, leading the band, and displaying vocal technique, attitude, and sass that the song requires. Angelina, at 9, knows exactly what her voice can do and she understands the genre completely. Her arrangement is one for the ages. Angelina started the contest at age 7 and is 8 when she won. Pls watch the entire competition as she has 3 more songs. Also react to her first time ever in a studio at 6 yrs singing I Who Have Nothing. She does her own arrangements even at this young age. She's a child prodigy as was her Grandmother,who raised Angelina on these old Jazz and Blues songs. She practices some 5 hrs a day. She has hundreds of covers and many of her own. You can learn so much about this beautiful young songstress by reading coments from her very large fan base. We're called her Angels

She was 7 when she did Gloomy Sunday. She is 9 when she does "...Spell on you", but if you don't watch her, you will think she is in her late 20's. This audition was recorded late in 2013 so shortly before Angelina's 8th birthday.
Here she had not turned 8 yet, she was just 7 (later in NGT she turned 8 years)
When she performed this audition, it was prior to her birthday in January so she was 7 during this audition. by the end of the show, she had turned 8 so she won when she was 8 but started the show when she was 7.

I really appreciate your background which gives you so much more credibility in your remarks. Others have already told you that she was seven here. I fell in love with this young Angelina, just loaded with artistic talent, mixed in with a very sweet disposition. This beautiful person wants to sing and do good and that is her vocation.
It’s unfortunate that you weren’t aware that she was actually only 7 at this time. That makes this performance even more impressive.
As you said, there are a lot of young talented singer on these kinds of shows but they usually just try to sing as loud and as high as they can. They usually don’t have the subtitles, nuances and emotion that Angelina already had at 7.

If you haven't yet, please watch all 4 of her performances of NGT. She was 7 when she started and turned 8 towards end of competition. Also please react to her singing I Who Have Nothing, her first time in a studio. Angelina is a child prodigy who started singing at 18 months. One of my all time favorites at 9 yrs old i I Put A Spell On You. I've literally watched that performance hundreds of times. She also arranges all her covers and makes them her own. She was introduced to jazz by her grandmother. Angelina is a beautiful 17 yr old singer now and has several of her own songs now. Enjoy and God bless you.
