Great video. Fun note - Josh Miller was pretty much a long protégé of Brent Strom, who has transformed Arizona's pitching staff to one of the best in baseball in just a couple of years. So it's honestly Strom who deserves the most flowers! But thankfully Miller learned well under him 💐
It's my understanding that Brent Strom took the job in Arizona partly because he'd be closer to home, but also because he felt he had taught Miller everything he could, so was stepping aside so Miller would stay in Houston and not look for a pitching coach job with another team.
Brent Strom has two rings with the Stros. So it definitely makes sense that Miller is taking over in Strom’s absence. The team’s management are calculated killas 💀
Oddly enough, I think the weakest link is the back end bullpen. Abreu and Pressly have underperformed as setup men. Hader has finally become Hader but too many leads are being lost in the 7th and 8th innings. The starting pitching has been a pleasant surprise. I expected the opposite scenario.
Hader is finally doing is thing but at the beginning of the season and still a little bit now, I wish they kept Pressley as a closer and hader for setup. But I guess they can still setup with abreu and close with either one.

Hunter Brown almost had a 12. Era at the beginning of the year and has won his last 10-5 since June. Spencer Arrighetti (rookie) never got run support early on and struggled as well but he’s got almost 40 strike outs his last 4 starts And Romeo Blanco literally but the Astros on his back at the beginning of the season and carried us to wins when the team could barely put together any runs. Now Kikuchi?? Just won tonight vs the O’s so that’s 5 wins for him since he’s started for us 😂

Indeed, I had noticed how most of their pitching staff were going from bad or inconsistent to good, I should’ve thought about them having an outstanding pitching coach.
The teams don't want to face them. The fans just hope they can be the ones to beat them, but it usually doesn't work out well for them. Even when the other teams beat them in the playoffs, it's a hard-fought battle.
The Astros as an organization is very good at seeing what each other is doing, and understanding what they as individuals can do to help each other become better at whatever their roll is, from Players to Coaches to the Management to the Owner.

I'm already thinking about a 9-man starting rotation next year. 3 groups of 3 starters-not always the same ones- in a 3 game rotation where each throws 3 innings in each game, and 4 or 5 relievers. Playoff time, 9 rested starters with 130+ innings in 50+ games each, and an experienced bullpen. What could go wrong?

Before Josh Miller, the Astros had imo the greatest pitching coach I have ever seen in Bret Strom!! I watched him turn average or slightly above average pictures into Cy Young Winners.Case in point Mike Scott was slightly above average and Brent taught him split fingered fastball and Scott became a Cy. Jeff Luhnow set the Stros up for success with the analytics team. Kakuchi said he's never been around a team that look at so much film with the analytics team. It's more than Brent Strom and Josh Miller, they have a really good analytics team that helps both pitchers and hitters. Look at Gammel that got DF'd by the Mets, he already had 5 RBI's.
It's not all Josh Millert, it's the entire Astros analytical and pitching department. I'm sure Josh Miller himself would admit the same. There is a reason Verlander got on New York about being so far behind of Astros when it came to pitching tech/analytics. They have been doing this with pictures for years now when scouting talent whether it be the trade deadline or offseason, look at all the pitchers they have picked up in the past who credited their analytics department was seeing pitches being used ineffectively, bringing them into the system and showing them when and where to throw what pitches which makes all the world of difference.

Astros have a steady pattern of hanging back in the first half of the season and then powering through the last half into the fall season
Even going back to 2004 (took the Cards to 7 games in the NLCS) and 2005 (even worse start to the season, and ended up winning the NL pennant).
