Suprised there wasn't more of a difference , Cheers for the comparison thou . I've got the 3m inflatable pared with the 6hp but have just picked up a 10hp . I'm hoping it will erase all issues with plaining and turning .
Question: I’m going to buying the red 10ft dinghy in just a month or 2. I know it’s only rated for a 10hp outboard but do you personally think I could push it a bit and get the hangkai 12hp outboard for it? I really want the extra power as I will probably be having 3 people on it most of the time Edit: I also really wish you would get 12hp one so I can see your guys’s videos on it 😀
While we would never recommend exceeding the manufacturer's HP rating, that was what we have been planning on doing. We figure a Chinese 12hp is probably pretty close to a 10HP and that the 18HP is close to a 15HP. If you plan on having more than 1 person, I would at the minimum find a 9.9HP motor. Hopefully we will be getting some bigger Hangkai motors this summer so stay tuned!
I guess you are using a dingy but I have one and I am using it on a 14ft aluminum boat. Does your motor vibrate a lot? My hand goes numb after a few minutes and it shakes the boat so bad my feet go numb. Any advise on how to not have such bad vibration? Thanks
Yes it does vibrate quite a bit. Once the motor was broken in, it wasn't as bad, but if you keep your hand on the tiller, it feels like you've been using a chainsaw all day. Not sure if you can really do anything about vibration at the handle; the bigger motors seem to have the motor isolated to reduce vibration. They do make rubber pads you can use on your transom to reduce vibration to the boat. Lookup "transom pads" on Google and you'll find several options.
I'm looking at getting the 6hp version for my 13' Saturn inflatable boat, but I have one concern. Is the hangkai really a true 6 horsepower outboard or is it a 4hp advertised as a 6? I currently have an air cooled hangkai 4hp outboard motor (the one that looks like someone slapped a lawnmower engine on top of a propeller shaft), and later discovered that it's only a 2 hp. The engine is a Honda GXV50 clone, and it's very noisy. I really appreciate your videos on the hangkai 6hp outboards. Thanks
Can't say for sure if it is really a "true" 6HP, but unlike the smaller Hangkai motors, it is actually a true outboard boat motor. It is loud since it's a 2 stroke, but it sounds just like a regular 2 stroke outboard, not a weed whacker. Hope that helps!
I bought a 6 hp Hangkai and 10 ft Bris thanks for the tip I can go 14 mph with one person
Can you add the link to the upgraded prop?

That's the plan for us as well. I believe we've hit the limits of what the 6hp is capable of and it's time to upgrade to a bigger motor.
Next you should compare fuel consumption stock verses upgrades.
Since there wasn't a big performance difference, it would be interesting to see if it affects economy. Great idea!

What type of keel does your dinghys have? I looks like air floor. But, is there an inflatable keel or just flat bottom?
These have an aluminum floor with an inflatable keel underneath.

The prop needs to be able to hit maximum RPM with whatever weight you're carrying

I’ve seen these motors on eBay. Is there a difference between the 6.0 and 6.5 or are they really the same motor. Thanks.
The 6.5 is a 4-stroke and also does not have the internal fuel tank. The 6.0 is a 2-stroke.
🎉 Promo-SM!
I think your killing speed with the long shaft vs short shaft.
