@@fwoosh8038 actually, most east Asians (more than 80% of koreans) do not produce the gene variant that causes underarm odor to smell. It's a proven fact.
@@aria_lu7762 yeah it’s this gene called ABCC11 that lots of East Asians, especially Koreans, don’t have. Not having it basically makes it so your cells can’t transport this chemical that makes armpits smelly. It also causes them to have dry earwax (instead of wet earwax). You don’t have to be Asian to not have it, but that’s where the lack of it is most common

One of my biggest fears as a child was going to the bathroom at night, and looking in the mirror, watching carefully to see if my reflection was really me. So insanely scary. I used to stand there for a long time, afraid even to walk away. Didn't matter if the light was on. The bathroom mirror at night. Yikes.
i feel like we all watched Mirrors when we weren't ready and we are all traumatized now. to this very day, i'm terrified that my reflection ON ANYTHING will change 😭

Love “Are You Scared?” Just got one question, what happened to the real stories? I remember there was one about a man’s father coming back to hunt him. That story turned out to be true, and it made all the other stories even more nerve wracking because the possibility of it being real, and as a result, making it easier to put yourself in these stories.
Regardless, happy that this is back, you ghoul boys really know how to make my day better.
Sometime between season 1 and season 2 they said they were changing the format because they felt uncomfortable making fun of true stories
Real reason? They knew none of them were real. Publicity reason? Laughing about true horror stories isn't fun.

I don't personally have any right as a random UA-cam viewer to any of their content. they choose to upload here as part of their business. yes, there's reasons to do it, they wouldn't do it if there wasn't value, but it's still something I get to enjoy for free. if I want more than they're willing to give me for free, then it's only right that I should pay them for the privilege because they already give me so much for free.
I think a lot of people get it twisted and think the existence of a pay wall is inherently bad, but I disagree with that. I think pay walls are fucked up when it keeps people from accessing information that's in the public interest like the news. I think pay walls are fucked up when the money goes to someone other than the creators of the content, like paying for access to a single medical journal article (the money goes to the journal, not the article's authors).
but when the paywall is managed 100% by the creators and is 100% for the creators' benefit and the content isn't public interest, then I see absolutely nothing wrong with it.

I think i'd be annoyed if are you scared became like alllll ads for other products, but all the ones so far have fit well with the style of the show, the production is all the same, so they end up being really fun! Always love to see more of these illustrations.

I honestly don’t mind the sponsored episodes because they’re usually just good stories regardless, especially since it’s sometimes easier to write good short horror when you have a prompt. Plus, it helps the channel and advertises some cool content ppl who like spooky stories might like!

Makes me wonder if the same rules apply to someone who may be blind. Do you have to actually see the smiles for it to work? Or just look that way? How would you know if someone did or did not have the smiles if you were blind?
Levels of vision vary among blind people so maybe someone who could see things really close up would still be affected

They could probably hear that the people were smiling when they were talking, but could it spread like that?

I had a cousin who, when he was about 10, went onto the train tracks to get a ball while a train was coming. The conductor said that my cousin stopped on the track and stared at him, smiling. The conductor blew the whistle but could not stop in time. My cousin ended up dying and that conductor was so fucked up after that he quit his job and became an alcoholic. I think it’s safe to say, a smile at an inappropriate moment can be really fucking scary.

This is honestly the best horror marketing. It’s great content in and of itself AND it makes me want to know the rest of the story.
i think the key question besides whether you can live with it is how exactly it transfers. did it transfer to the neighbor then the narrator because they were the last to see the previous infected alive, because they were the first to see them dead, or because they saw the person die? can it transfer to multiple people at once? if there's a way for someone to avoid passing it to anyone before they die, will it end with them or will it go back to the last living person who fits the criteria like in It Follows? i started typing out follow up scenarios but realized i could make a whole flowchart with theories so i'm not taking the time for that lol. istg if i watch the movie and it doesn't answer at least some of my questions i'm gonna be so mad
Honestly, it would probably be pretty easy to deal with quietly in this post-covid world, just wear a mask all the time and nobody will be able to see your smile and consequently become infected
Or...the narrator is an untrustable narrator and is having multiple psychological breaks and killed their mom and her neighbor without knowing it; the psychiatrist is aware of the slow but incredibly worsening breakdown which is why she pushed her away for fear of her own life.

In the story at least it seems to be witnessing the death that transfers the smiles between people. So then it depends on if it is a one person at a time curse or anyone who witnesses catches it... If its one at a time you could be the hero by locking yourself into a room with no windows and taking a lot of pills or something. From the psychiatrist's breakdown it sounds more like the latter. So then the truck driver (poor guy! don't involve other people in your suicide, its a dick move) has it too and everyone's fucked

i'm halfway through the story, but it reminded me of smile tapes, a series of analog horror. the smile is contagious (and not in a good way). i don't want to spoil it but it's basically like a disease spread by spores that caused the patient to have their face distorted into an uncanny smile and become violent. it is interesting imo and i recommend to give it a go if you like mandela catalogue etc.
Rose "Susie Bacon" the actress on movie ends up just being mentally sick but non of it actually happend in real life in the end she was making things up in her head that wernt happening ends up with her smiling in hospital mirror

Pretty off topic but I love my one neighbor. He’s so pure and wholesome. He’s a retired teacher and is always wearing little 80s shorts and tank tops. Always has a visor on and goes for runs. He also has a stretch routine before he starts going. I’m blessed to see it out my front window from time to time 😂

I like how there is almost a VHS style blur and chromatic aberration to the shots of Ryan and Shane. Nostalgic and at home in the spooky-sphere. I always love listening to Ryan tell scary stories, thanks for another great video!

@@bigmanliam lmao well yes. I hallucinate pretty much at all times, during night and day, no matter what I'm doing or who I'm with I'm usually hallucinating. Generally I hear screaming or people calling me to go over to them from far away, voices can be both really mean and really nice but they're usually mean. Visually I see bugs, blood, sometimes people's faces warp or freeze, sometimes people's necks break and their heads turn toward me, and I see a lot of shadowy figures and strange people in my personal space or in my home. It helps to have someone around me most of the time so I can be like 'hey is that dude standing in our living room with a knife real or not' LMAO
But yes, I do hallucinate a lot, but that's not all that schizophrenia is! There's also a bunch of other shit to deal with lol. It's definitely tiring but I have a better handle on my schizophrenia at this point because I've been dealing with it for years.

While I love "Are you scared" regardless of whether it is a true story or not, I'd love if they brought back the concept of having true stories, too. Because reality is always scarier than any scary story ever written.

Just off the top of my head, there was both of the victims of the machete murders in Florida, the woman who's believed to have spontaneously combusted, and all the medical professionals who experienced health issues after dealing with the victim who smelled like garlic.
@@breannaadams4058 The videos you mentioned where done when they were in their mid twenties though, it's more likely that they've matured from that point and are no longer comfortable with it. There's also Steven Lim to consider, he might not be ok with that.
Also, the problem with having real and fake stories mixed in, is that ANY story that has a hint of a supernatural is already going to be fake, so it's a dead giveaway, it limits what they can do. We couldn't have something like this, we couldn't have AYS of the Ocean Bleeding, or a Job Interview, or Mannequins or Mimes and those are amazing.

This story was so much better than the movie
idk if the whole creepy smile thing is a common thought, but when I was a kid (like 8 years old), I would have this reoccurring nightmare where I'd walk to the side of my house where my mom was gardening to ask her a question, but she gave me a growing super wide smile (like in the Black Hole Sun music video) but her eyes were expressionless. She didn't say anything, she just stared at me. Then, I'd run inside to tell my dad but he had the exact same smile. So I'd run out of the house and my parents would start chasing me, but as I ran down the street to get help from neighbours, they'd be outside staring at me with the same smile. I couldn't scream or wake up either, even when I'd realize it was a dream
So yeah, that's so weird that this story is so eerily similar to that nightmare I'd have as a kid...
Next time someone asks "would it kill you to smile?" Im gonna say yes.

It just sounds like a rather serious, somewhat fantasized but still more realistic than some, description of Paranoid Schizophrenia. The seeing the smiles endlessly, feeling sudden panic and dread, the big difference being taking photos when having hallucinations is supposed to help easily discern what's happening, and normally its more auditory or touch based than visual. Visual can still happen though
iPhones have a feature where you’ll be sent a notification when the microphone picks up any sound and will identify it, letting you know if you’re hallucinating or not.
Glad to see the boys back in their old stomping grounds again. I can't wait for their new series to start. I miss their adventures out there!
